Kendrick called out Drake recently by rapping that he has a nymph fetish. Never knew there was another name besides ephebophile/pedophile, but yeah wtf… Is it being stuck mentally at an age they didn’t grow from sexually or something?

Krono ,

The line from Kendrick’s Meet the Grahams is actually

He hates Black women, hypersexualizes ’em with kinks of a nympho fetish

This part isn’t about children, it’s generally believed to be about Drakes alleged assault on Laquana Morris.

The former stripper and Instagram model alleged: “Drake forced me to perform oral on him. It wasn’t your ordinary oral it was more so a fetish.” She then describes how he told her to spit into a cup “until he had measured it."

Jessvj93 ,

Ah damn lmao, I totally misheard it as nymph fetish, shoot! Thought it was a reference to him getting close to 14 year old Millie Bobbie Brown 😅

I don’t know anything about the Drake/Kendrick thing, but the term nymph probably became associated with pedophilia because of the novel Lolita. It’s one of the creepy endearments the main character comes up with while he is obsessing over the child he’s going to rape later in the story.

Lori Maddox says that she lost her virginity to Bowie when she was 15, but she has also said she was in a relationship with Jimmy Page starting when she was 13/14, and that she lost her virginity to Page, which if true would mean she didn’t lose her virginity to Bowie.

Then you have to look at her changing story about the Bowie incident. She’s said it happened in 1972, but then she also has said he propositioned her in 1972, but they didn’t have sex until 1973, when she said she had dinner with Bowie and they were joined by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, but Bowie didn’t meet John Lennon until 1974. Then she said they went back to his suite at the Hilton and had sex, but Bowie was staying at the Hyatt during his 1973 tour.

Another version she’s told is that she and Sable Starr went to the Beverly Hilton and found out what room Bowie was in and snuck in. There they convinced a tired Bowie to have sex with Maddox for 3-4 hours, then had a threesome with Maddox and Sable, who then snuck out. But in another telling of the story she has said that Bowie’s wife Angie walked in on them the next morning.

She also has issues with her story about sleeping with Mick Jagger, where she claims to have attended a 1975 recording session with John, Paul, Ringo, and Mick Jagger, and then had sex with Jagger immediately afterwards. The main issue is that the only Lennon McCartney jam session after the Beatles broke up happened in 1974, and Mick Jagger wasn’t at it.

None of this is to say she didn’t lose her virginity to Bowie when she was 14-15, but there are lots of photos of her and Jimmy Page from 1972-75 but none with her and Bowie.

It was a long time ago, and memory is unreliable, which could explain the inconsistencies in her different telling of the events, and I would not be surprised in both Bowie and Jagger had sex with underage people, but Lori Maddox’s stories aren’t the best evidence to hang them with.

Son_of_dad ,

I hate modern journalism

here’s the senate bill they’re talking about www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/…/2224?s=1&r…

It’s a very weak bill, only kicks in at over 50 homes purchased, is not retroactive so existing damage to the market is unaffected, and only affects taxes on interest. Plus a lot of other restrictions to make sure this doesnt affect rental properties at all. Frankly I think this bill is meant to make more affordable property for landlords than anything.

Dark_Arc , (edited )
@Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg avatar

It’s the WSJ, it’s the Fox News of print. It’s going to have that “mostly true, but also any regulation is bigger than life” vibe.

NYTimes reported on different forms of this bill way back in December when things were still in infancy nytimes.com/…/wall-street-housing-market.html

If signed into law, the legislation, called the End Hedge Fund Control of American Homes Act of 2023, could upend a growing sector of the housing market, and potentially increase the supply of single-family homes available for individual buyers. Homeownership, long a cornerstone of generational wealth in the United States, is increasingly out of reach for Americans as home prices and interest rates soar.

In separate legislation, Representatives Jeff Jackson and Alma Adams of North Carolina, both Democrats, introduced the American Neighborhoods Protection Act on Wednesday. That bill would require corporate owners of more than 75 single-family homes to pay an annual fee of $10,000 per home into a housing trust fund to be used as down payment assistance for families.

The bills were introduced three months after The New York Times published a story examining the impact of corporate-backed investment on Charlotte, N.C., where, in 2022, investors purchased 17 percent of the city’s homes in cash, often outcompeting first-time buyers who rely heavily on mortgages.

Investors buying up 17% of a city with nearly a population of 900,000 people is just nuts. If you say 4 people per household, that’s roughly 38,250 homes.

Edit: I forgot my point, which was that even though it’s great, if people could only do it when they wanted to instead of when they had to, they would probably make that choice.

What’s crazy about that, you could just eat high fiber foods and get the same effect.

People did that because the cotton wouldn’t be digested and make their stomachs feel full for a long time. Literally the same thing nondigestable fiber does.

What’s actually crazy is most people today barely eat any fiber.

    The worldwide impact of these new drugs could be kind of amazing. They don’t just have you burn more calories or not digest food you eat. They completely change how people think about food. When obesity is an epidemic that causes all kinds of health problems, imagine how much less we’d spend on healthcare if more people were healthier weights.

    Poem_for_your_sprog ,

    It’s an epidemic because of greedy corporations pushing shit food combined with our shit culture, overwork, and lack of exercise.

    EldritchFeminity ,

    On top of this, what’s medically considered overweight is a really flawed logic and weight can often be a comorbidity of other problems that get passed off by doctors as the person just being too fat. For example, according to the BMI, champion weightlifters are morbidly obese.

    modeler ,

    BMI classifying weightlifters as morbidly obese is a flaw of the BMI, not on how medics consider obesity. BMI is used because for most people it is really simple and quick and gives a reasonable result. When a doctor considers your health, they consider many many factors including your bloodwork, quantity and location of fat, fitness level and more

    rebelsimile ,

    Yeah, but when an insurance company is looking to deny a claim, suddenly the nuance of all that goes out the window

    Sprawlie ,

    Can’t have that. Might hurt profits somewhere. A big insurance company here just removed one of the drugs from coverage inexplicably.

    Makes you wonder why despite a doctor prescribing it for weight loss, the insurance company can go ahead and just, nope out. and what motivation do they have to keep people fat?

    aphlamingphoenix ,

    They don’t want to pay out for expensive drugs. They can’t be profitable if they pay for the healthcare your doctor prescribes for you.

    fuckwit_mcbumcrumble ,

    IDK if I’d call food rotting in your stomach because your body just isn’t digesting it a revolution.

    stoly ,

    And the article calls it rare in the first sentence.

    fuckwit_mcbumcrumble ,

    To the point that it gets rotten yes. But the entire purpose of the drug is to dramatically slow the digestion process which has a whole host of other problems, rotten food inside you is just the grossest.

    Daxtron2 ,

    Digestion itself is a rotting process using our gut bacteria

    stoly ,

    I think the lesson here is that all drugs have side effects and it’s a question of whether the positive effect is worth the danger. If you are looking for the perfect pharmaceutical, it will never exist.

    @Orbituary@lemmy.world avatar

    You have that backwards. AIPAC has invested in US politicians for decades. The money we send there comes right back into our politician’s pockets. Biden received the most at 5 million to his campaigns.

    Then there are weapons PACs. Military-Industrial Complex has every establishment politician by their grey, short, and curlies.

    Fuck this world. Fuck the USA. Fuck Israel. Fuck this aggression on Palestinian civilians.

    wildbus8979 ,

    It goes both ways. Israel as always been a proxy for doing the US’ dirty business in the region.

    Linkerbaan ,
    @Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

    Saudi, Jordan and Egypt have been far better than israel. They host tonnes of American bases, are far more controllable and don’t try to bomb Iranian embassies to start World War 3.

    wildbus8979 ,

    There’s your problem, you think the US disapproves of bombing the Iranian embassy. They don’t, they just won’t do it themselves. Bases are one thing, but Israel has, continues, and will provide plausible deniability for some truly disgusting actions.

    America doesn’t want war with Iran.

    Israel is trying to escalate their war and involve America. Especially Netanyahu who is looking stay at war as long as possible

    By bombing the Iranian embassy and committing other grave war crimes Iran will have to respond. At which point israel calls big brother Joe Biden to “defend them” against Iran. Thus dragging America into World War 3.

    America doesn’t want war with Iran.

    That’s the funniest shit I’ve heard all week!

    America has been saber rattling at Iran since the assassination of Mosadegh.

    They propped up Sadam Hussein to fight a bloody proxy war against them, and then turned on him when he demanded reparations.

    Linkerbaan ,
    @Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

    Israel is the party that keeps trying to egg America on into starting wars with Iran. The Iraq invasion was also heavily pushed by israel

    Trump: Israel was part of plans to kill Qassem Soleimani, backed out at last moment

    “When we took out Soleimani, you know Israel was supposed to do it with us. Two days before the take-out, they said, ‘We can’t do it. We can’t do it.’ I said ‘What?’ ‘We can’t do it,‘” the Republican presidential frontrunner told Fox News.

    “Then I had a certain general, who’s great, I said, ‘So General, do we do it ourselves?’ He said, ‘We can, sir, it’s up to you.’ I said, ‘We’ll do it,’” Trump continued.

    “But Israel was a part of it. You know, Bibi was a big part of it. And we had everything planned, everything. Because what [Soleimani did] was terrible. What he did to us was terrible. Killed so many of our soldiers. Killed so many people,” he added, using the nickname of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

    That's part of it - they don't want to lose their investment. The other part is that if they do stop propping up Israel, they know another country like Russia or China will happily fill the void and reap all the benefits of the influence in the region. The US could cut ties and not be involved at all but it's not likely it would change much, unfortunately; Israel would just continue with new backers and the US would be in a worse position.

    Not that that justifies the war and all the weapon sales on the US' part, of course. But I think, with that information, it's easy to see why there's some nuance to it, and why the US isn't keen to sever ties or be too harsh a critic.

    Switching to what alliance? It's not like they're going to join BRICS.

    To who? They’re almost universally hated by any nation around them, they’ve only made it this far with the US government hemorrhaging cash and arms to maintain a foothold.

    sun_is_ra ,

    Russia comes to mind. They’d accept Israel if they could benefit from it. Also Bibi get to be a plain old dictator without worrying too much about response from western allies. In exchange Russia get access to lot of western tech.

    Linkerbaan ,
    @Linkerbaan@lemmy.world avatar

    Unlikely as Russia is heavily in bed with Iran.

    Israel is a giant liability. It really doesn’t do much except control news networks and bribe politicians.

    sun_is_ra ,

    But Russia only got “to bed” with Iran recently when Iran agreed to supply them with drones.

    Before Ukraine war, Russia didn’t care about Iran or North Korea.

    If Israel could supply Russia with more advanced drones / weapons, I assure you Russia would switch alliance in a blink of an eye

    Burn_The_Right ,

    Israel does not benefit the U.S. in any way. We have NATO nations nearby and even bases in Kuwait. And that’s in addition to all the carriers in the Med. They offer no strategic advantage.

    We have no special financial investments with them. We do the same kind of trade we do with any other countries. A relationship with Israel offers us absolutely no financial benefit. None.

    Our relationship is a favor to them, motivated mostly by religious mythology about the christian end-times that U.S. politicians are obsessed with. It’s the dumbest of all possible reasons and no one will say it out loud in the news.

    We need to defund this shit. And we need to help the victims.

    melpomenesclevage ,

    There is one way to make it stop; atrocities are all they are, there is not an ounce of humanity left, just bomb them into oblivion. Its the only way they will ever stop.

    No surrender, no relief, and anyone who takes ‘refugees’ gets the same treatment. Anything less is appeasement, and appeasement is how you get world wars.

    Idk violating gpl isn’t hard you just have to think of it as some hippy bullshit without teeth instead of what it actually is: a pretty radical legal framework for intellectual property to be distributed freely that has plenty of teeth and a strong precedent

    Crashumbc ,

    I like GPL, but I thought it was basically just a contract.

    who pays for the lawyers? Unless you have more money than your opponent nothing has much teeth in the US.

    kellyaster , in JK Rowling in ‘arrest me’ challenge over Scottish hate crime law
    @kellyaster@lemmy.world avatar

    Rowling quote from the article:

    Scottish lawmakers seem to have placed higher value on the feelings of men performing their idea of femaleness, however misogynistically or opportunistically, than on the rights and freedoms of actual women and girls.

    It’s difficult to accept that someone I used to respect could say such hateful things about people like me. I’m not gonna lie, it hurts to read. What the fuck, Joanne? Is that all I am to you… just a man “performing” my idea of femaleness? Well, fuck you, then. Should I wish for you to feel the same pain you’ve inflicted on others? To be honest, judging by your “performance” in the media the past several years, I don’t think you’re resilient enough to survive it.

    Rediphile ,

    So wait, did you wish her the pain or no?

    Kedly , (edited )

    Sounds to me they were admitting to being human and thought about it, but dont really want to give in to a harmful base impulse like that…

    Edit: Removed some redundancy

    Rediphile ,

    I’m just trying to clarify their final position.

    Kedly , (edited )

    Why? We have no reason to believe the person you are grilling has any capability of harming JK Rowling, so you’re grilling someone who’s hurt that someone they grew up reading turned out to be shitty for no real purpose

    Edit: Added “You’re”

    melpomenesclevage ,

    Feels more like youre trying to twist somebody’s emotional statement of disappointment into something that might get them banned. Can I offer you this fine Patagonia fleece and some Oakley sunglasses?

    Rediphile ,

    That wouldn’t get anyone banned though.

    As evidenced by me saying: ‘I wish harm to JK Rowling’.

    Also I legitimately don’t understand your last question.

    towerful ,

    I would like a fine patagonia fleece. I dont like the way oakleys fit my face, but if they are free and i can sell/re-gift them then i will not turn them down.

    Unless this is reference to something that i dont understand.

    melpomenesclevage ,

    Think about it for a moment, dear. Who dresses that way?

    towerful ,

    I can honestly say i have no idea.
    Outdoors type people? South Americans? Oak trees?
    Thats as far as i can get by thinking about it. You are gonna have to spell it out, because a patagonia fleece and some oakleys are not a stereotype i am aware of.

    Rediphile ,

    They won’t spell out anything it seems, as it would require them admitting their true position which they are ashamed of…or something? I’m as confused as you are, but also would quite like a free Patagonia sweater.

    afraid_of_zombies ,

    It sucks when your heros let you down. There was a guy I really admired and I worked with. When his wife was in the hospital he cheated on her. Couldn’t see him the same way again.

    Sorry she sucks so very hard and is not only a disappointment actively hostile.

    cosmicrookie ,
    @cosmicrookie@lemmy.world avatar

    I am not sure she entirelly referes to you. It refers to people abusing transexuality to achieve other dreams or more dreams than just being themselves. At least this is how I understand her argumentations.

    Syndic ,

    Fuck that shit. She doesn’t make any such distinction in her hate tirades. It’s very easy to find many tweets and similar quotes of her speaking about transsexual people as a whole. So yeah, she very much has spoken about OP as well. And she’s a freaking author, she doesn’t get any excuses for not knowing how to write more specifically. She knows very well what she says and who it will affect when she generalises all transsexual people. And it for damn sure isn’t some imaginary group or predators willing to go through all the hassle of being trans to prey on women but the trans community as a whole.

    SqueakyBeaver ,

    Yeah it is understandable that you would understand it that way. Unfortunately, that’s not really what her whole stance is. She goes beyond that and tells the people that protections for all trans people (trans women in particular) should be rolled back. Take, for instance, her stance on trans women in prisons. She says all trans women should be put in mens’ prisons. However, many trans women who are put in mens’ prisons are often sexually abused (source will come if I remember)

    All in all, she is a raging transphobe and is buddies with even homophobic figures. I personally find this list of her transphobia quite damning.

    Socsa ,

    Absolutely nobody is doing that. Grow the fuck up, it’s so obviously a completely invented problem they use to demonize people trying to be themselves.

    And if any person ends up being a sexual criminal, then they will be dealt with according to the law.

    thomcat ,
    @thomcat@midwest.social avatar

    ahh yes trans people, a historically privileged class that millions of people are pretending to be to get :checks notes: hormone treatment
