And who’s got boxers tight enough and pants loose enough that they’d have the boxers stay up when the pants come down? I’ve been pantsed and the undies definitely went with the pants
I guess, if you’re wearing sweatpants? I feel like this requires rather loose pants to begin with. When I’m wearing jeans pants with a belt, my whole ass cheeks would need to come off for my pants to move…
At least where I live, the licensing test covers rules of the road, not automotive knowledge. I think this commenter was referring to some test covering very surface-level knowledge of vehicles, with a focus on ways to tell if a car is unasafe to drive.
I’m in Sweden, we get two big books of just theory stuff. There are entire sections on how deep the patterns must be, when you are allowed to use what type of tyres (summer, friction, studded), etc. along with what consequences there are.
You must have winter tyres between the 1st of December and the 31st of March, so long as there may be snow or ice on the roads. Studded tires are only allowed between the 1st of October through to the 15th of April as they wear down the roads and cause excessive pollution.
There is so much general car knowledge. Warning lights, optimal tyre pressure (which is variable depending on your car and the load), how to drive in an eco-friendly manner, child seats, it never fucking ends.
I got my license in Sweden and there are laws for when you must have summer tires and winter tires as well as how deep the pattern needs to be. This is all covered in the writing portion of the test. It’s quite possible that someone driving with wheels like that might get their license suspended at the least.
us Americans, we seem to like to swerve deftly around many such useful civil universalities.
things you’d assume are vital to a peaceful, comfortable, safe people are often things that seem to baffle us.
i think this repeated swerving should disabuse anyone of any notion of the USA being a civilized nation, but somehow people keep classifying us as better than we are. lived here my whole life… not sure how someone could make that mistake, honestly. not unless they were really rich, I guess.
One big part is because of Hollywood. The entire world image of America comes from movies.
Once you start to look into the prison system, the justice system, the financial system… Well, nothing actually builds on any feeling of caring about its citizens at all.
Brakes on cars are a hydraulic system. The check is for the fluid levels of the hydraulics. Without enough fluid, pressing the brake pedal would not depress the pads.
Or, alternatively, we should build cities where owning a car isn’t a requirement to hold down a job, and keep piloting a two ton death machine as a privilege, not a right
Jesus, at $20/mo you would pay for a full set of the (expensive) OEM tires on my car in less than a year. They’re warrantied for 3 years of standard mileage, so even worse than double.
I’ve heard that a lot but I have fairly large hands myself and really like the feel of them. I even have a set of joycons paired to my pc for shortcuts while I work with a stylus. Just don’t get how people have so much trouble with them.
Edit: I guess my thumbs have a stutter, and there’s no sense in a free advert for a service I wish had better alternatives.
I don’t think they’re problematic, but as a slightly above average height American male, I feel like my hands skew towards the smaller side of average which makes a difference. I have no problem with the joycons attached to the console, and I’m also a big fan of the pro controller. A friend of mine who is notably much taller bought me pro-like third party joycons for Christmas and they hurt my hands to use in contrast to the OG that don’t bother me at all.
Agreed. The triggers are far too small. The buttons are not in intuitive places and they are not very responsive. I try and play for Zelda, but wish I could pair a PS5 controller.
I really hate how Nintendo doubled down on saying drift wasn’t a real problem with their original joycons. Two out of two original left joycons got severe drift after little use. To make matters worse, the tiny L/R buttons when they’re unattached stopped working, so no more Super Mario Party without some cumbersome button remapping.
You can! I use a Mayflash Magic-NS for this. I got a few and plugged them into a USB hub on my dock and my friends have been able to use their own comfortable controllers they use for their pc games on my switch. been a big hit for smash bros. ps4/ps5 controllers support gyro inputs fine too. you can even configure it to switch button orders/layouts and stuff for you so you don’t get xbox/nintendo xyab/yxba glyph/button conflicts, if you need. big fan of them overall. they work on other systems and controllers too, you can pair joycons to your PC with it (shows up as Xbox controller), they’re like universal “controller language” translators.
I like using the Switch, but I can’t use it for longer than an hour due to the Joy-Con causing cramps. I’m definitely going to replace them with a third party controller.
The reality is probably that kernel developers don’t get any younger nowadays. And believe me, when you get older, have children and less free time, your waistline suffers a bit. Or even a bit more than a bit.
Man I used to think there was no relation between what I ate and my wardrobe size, but eventually it really does catch up with you, especially if your day job is sedentary.
A lot of people laugh at this, but it’s painfully true.
Hell, I do Brazilian Jiu-jitsu three times a week, and lift/run on the other days. At a certain point for many, you just can’t outrun a bad diet, and maintaining anything other than a dad bod requires all that exercise AND a strict diet. Good fucking luck doing all of that with a screaming baby at home!
I never thought I’d be fat, especially since back when I was 18 I could smash a meal at McDonald’s and exercise right after, while keeping a six pack. Now, it requires double the exercise to not have tits…
I was in the same situation. I started to walk and longboard every day and track my calories without exception.
Eventually, you can see changes and it becomes easier over time, but oh boy I never shame anyone for their body size, because it’s hella hard, and if you’re coping with other problems like depression or addiction, it’s gotta feel damn near impossible.
You don’t need a lot, or even any exercise, to prevent overweight. Diet is everything. The amount of extra calories you can eat for a run is easily outweighed by the extra hunger.
The concept of rewatching a movie is almost foreign to me now given that I have access to a library of tens of thousands of movies. It would have to be very good and something that whoever I’m with hasn’t seen.
Of course I used to watch the same movie about every month or so back when I was growing up in the 90s.
I have a daughter I enjoy showing movies I’ve already watched to. So I’ve been doing mostly rewatching, but with someone who has never seen, for example, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off before.
The best was her reaction to Repo Man. We got to the end and she said, “all of that for a flying car?”
This is so sweet. Getting to show cool stuff you like to your kids must be one of the best things about being a parent. If I ever end up becoming one I’ll show my kids all the great Pixar movies and also the Emperor’s New Groove cause that one is a classic.
It really is, although you have to tailor it to their tastes, which means not showing them some movies you want to. She has absolutely no interest in seeing Star Wars or Indiana Jones movies, for example. But she loves cult movies, so I’m enjoying showing her those.
It might, but it definitely hasn’t. I work in some fresh blood on the weekends, when I feel up to taking a chance. Actually, I’ve got a date to go see Dream Scenario (Nic Cage 🥰) just this week.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind - it’s just so nicely structured, you always notice something new
Glengarry Glen Ross - I finished watching it for the first time and I thought go myself “fuck, I could watch it again” and I did, watch the whole movie again straight away. I can still just go back and watch it. The acting is so amazing it never gets boring
Veep - best show ever, I’ve seen every episode probably over 10 times and I still watch it all the time, like when I’m cooking or something. It’s just soooo fucking perfect
I actually listen to Futurama to help me sleep. I’ve added some other shows I know just as well. They are in that genre of extraordinary media that I can watch/listen to/etc. over and over again.
I have trash taste, so I actually just continue to rewatch the same dumb shit I liked in the 90s so I don’t have to make a decision. I actually paid real money to buy Not Another Teen Movie a few years back because I rewatch it about once a year. I think we have too many options and they’re all on different services so it’s like fuck it, Men In Black for the 85th time.
I used to watch the same movie about every month or so back when I was growing up
I don’t think this is a technical limitation, I think young children really like repetition because their brains are still learning how to predict things
It depends on how hard you push the envelope. The closer you get to doing something no one has ever done before, the more likely you are to be in your own.
Of course, any time you’re doing something no one has ever done before, it’s prudent to consider whether you should.
Lol this applies to so many things. Maybe there’s some prestige to doing something for the first time, but really there were probably a dozen people that contemplated it and decided against it for good reasons.
I feel you, my problem is that I switch between languages too much. I’m learning rust right now as a hobby, but I’m technically a frontend dev with years of experience in angular and react, and a couple months ago I have been put on a legacy rails project, which we’re rewriting for Angular x Java stack (thankfully my roommate is a Java backend dev, he’s been a lot of help) and on top of this I maintain my Cyberpunk 2077 mods written in lua, c++ and redscript (swift-like).
How do I do thing that I do every day, but in this language I’m using today
Modding is definitely a nightmare though. One day I’m writing the latest python. The next I’m looking at some C library that was published half a decade before I was born and is for some reason deep in the bowels of the game engine I’m modding
Why no one’s talking about the math? Monthly expenses add to $49,000 times 12 equal $588,000 per year. That’s clearly not $300,000 and not even earning $400,000 gets you to the end of the year.
I don’t think it’s really joke. Posts like these rely on people going in and correcting every single detail they got wrong which counts as engagement for the algorithm and the post soars. Just look at the comments here.
The secret to selling the calculator subscription is to use the smallest possible time base for the quoted price since the potential clients can’t use the calculator to figure out the yearly cost of the subscription.
Lol nah, they absolutely have messages and have always had them.
No media can ever be there to have no message and only to entertain. They all have an underlying message whether it’s intentional or not because that is how all stories are made comic book or not.
Now adjust for inflation. The comic was published in 1989. $1 then is $2.48 today. That’s a cumulative price increase of 148.22%, or an average price increase of 2.71% per year for 34 years. It is 4:30am, I am on a shuttle bus, and I am not showing any signs of going to sleep anytime soon.
What an odd way to phrase that lol. The Expanse is one of my favourite shows, and I’ve heard nothing but positivity about it online. The way you said this makes it seem it’s generally considered a bad show…
That’s because I thought it was going to be bad, but it’s actually one of the best shows I’ve seen in years. I feel bad for missing it when it first came out.
They have the guy from Punisher in it :D Thomas Jane. Ohh, I hope they keep making more and that it keeps being good.
And I hope actual human expansion into space never looks like that.
I think it’s been confirmed that season 6 is the last one, at least for now. I really hope they adapt the last 3 books in the future though, I love this series so much
To be honest, I haven’t watched season 6 yet despite it having been out for over a year now, cause I don’t want it to end 😭
Let’s see, you posted this about 19 hours ago, starting value was 315 with a bunch of zeros… yeah someone else can do the math, but I think our buddy scrooge will be just fine.
Commenter gives a logical answer with information that is probably well-known for a good chunk of the world (Spanish speakers), yet it’s somehow still mind-blowing. Like “whoah, that’s where that came from!”
In Spanish you have one tamal but two tamales. In English you have one tamale, two tamales. We incorrectly removed the pluralization from tamales and now we have this hybrid word, tamale.
Thanks for making Lemmy feel like home, it wouldn’t without you!
The reality is it’s a free world, regardless of what morality you put on things there are going to be things that happen that you don’t like. That’s life.
Like it or not Lemmy has had explosive growth because of apps like Sync. Because of them being killed off by Reddit. If it weren’t for the drama of Reddit doing that, I and millions of other users wouldn’t be here right now as we’d still be on Reddit.
Even people who weren’t using the 3rd party apps left Reddit because Reddit’s actions left a bad taste in their mouths.
So, morality of one guy charging for his honest work in creating the paid or ad supported app aside, you should be thanking the apps including sync for helping drive so many users to Lemmy.
If you yourself don’t want to use a paid app, then that’s okay! We’re all allowed to respond or react to things how we want, but being incredibly divisive for something that a lot of people wanted and that really is inconsequential is almost universally frowned on.
Just let people do what they want and don’t shoot them down for it. More options for browsing Lemmy = more Lemmings = more content.
Much love my dudes! We may disagree on this but we agree on many many many more things I’m sure, just because we’re on Lemmy instead of Reddit in the first place is proof of that! ✌️
