You got me so good. Been using fedora for a few years now and I’ve been hesitant to hop to silverblue but now, after reading your issues with it I might just have to stay away. I can’t imagine a world of painless updates and rebasing smoothly. If I don’t have things to troubleshoot what else am I gonna do on my PC!
As others have said, the only option available currently is to leave the instance and re-create your beloved communities elsewhere. The Lemmy.ml Admins also happen to be the ones actively developing the Lemmy code base, and they’re not gonna change because they feel entitled to do whatever they want, and technically, they can because they run the instance.
If you want to get away from the Lemmy codebase entirely I can vouch that mBin works quite nicely. I've been on fedia.io for months now and only once or twice hit some kind of technical problem, which was resolved quickly.

I have a login for lemmy.ml, as I have several from when I was switching over from Reddit. I'm thinking from what I'm reading here, that it's not an instance I want to associate with.
Are there mobile apps yet? Because if no that’s one huge advantage Lemmy still has over Kbin/Mbin, and it’s why I switched to Lemmy when Artemis started having issues (it went down completely since) instead of going back to Kbin.
Don’t forget about piefed it’s amazing and lets you subscribe to posts and/or comments. Theres someone who contributed Lemmy API compatibility to use some Lemmy apps with Piefed instances. Its still very early but so far its extremely promising and the codebase is in python and the main developer is focused on ensuring it wasy to contribute. Check it out: piefed.social
Well since all major lemmy instances seem to hide mod names in their logs, we don’t know who the banning mods are.
Lemmy.ml also has the funny quirk that it doesnt have a proper legal imprint or team list afaik. So we don’t have actual transparent information on who is on that instances admin team and who is not. Iirc only one of dessalines and nutomic is on that admin team anymore.
Nothing good or productive would come out of showing mod names in mod logs. Would just have people doing witch hunts on user level instead of instances like they do now
People keep bringing up that because of the devs history with that instance, “surely it is the Lemmy devs themselves who are doing this”. Which hurts Lemmy’s reputation overall.
I guess some mod actions could be considered accidents or mistakes instead of bad actors. A transparent system would have a flow to allow the user to contact and get such a mistake rectified, or report a wrongful mod action to an admin.
But if the admin is a problem, then that needs more figuring out how to get one removed.
Not when he has been creating a narrative since 2020 that he was the real winner of that election and all these court cases are just designed to try and stop him from being President.
His supporters have bought the premium subscription to this narrative, so nothing is going to change their minds. In fact, the more court cases there are, the more support he gets.
Even though going after him for his alleged crimes is the right thing to do, I actually wish they’d just let him fade into obscurity instead. Because all it has ended up doing is helping his campaign.
Well then you’re just letting him win. He’s still going to do his thing and get supporters. Convicting him gives some amount of validity that he’s doing something wrong. Unfortunately he got his hands on a lot of gullible people before someone better could, so we can’t change their minds no matter what we do. Hopefully making his crimes so public will make those not fully converted less likely to buy into his cult.

When I was visiting the Philippines I saw homes on stilts that did not actually have doors, but I would certainly consider the inside of such a structure to be indoors. Pre-colonial architecture may not use a front door.

Pedantically speaking, I have never been in a door. I’ve opened doors and passed beyond the portal they were blocking, but I have never phased into or been sealed inside of a door. :p

OP received a 3 day temporary ban for violating the instance’s rule against transphobia. That in no way, shape, or form, constitutes a moderator “power trip.”
The optics of a potentially publicly traded company (what ever happened with the Reddit IPO thing?) openly having a “how to steal other companies copyrighted work” forum is more of a negative than IP farming with no method to actually do anything useful with the IP addresses.
Porn is less of a legal liability than copyright claims is my guess.
Also… like… if somebody is dumping money into Reddit as a user of Reddit which is more likely to make them stop: killing the piracy forums or the porn forums?
It’s not about the legal liability and more that publically traded corporations only want profit. Reddit would need to cater to advertisers who would not like all the porn, it’s why Tumblr and Imgur removed the porn.
Specifically, the executives and shareholders want their Publicly Traded Shares of company stock to be increasing in value. Advertisers are good for getting long term holders of the stock to keep holding and buying, but everybody else is looking to quietly pump up the numbers and sell what they can without upsetting the apple-cart.
I’d bet a shiny metal dollar that after the IPO starts, the porn subs will slowly start being winnowed down. Give it a few years and if any exist they will be private.

X is still the only choice for certain roles. Wayland is missing absolute window positioning (required for certain multi-window apps), color management, and drawing tablet support is spotty. Some apps will never be ported to Wayland.
X is bloated, old, obsolete, impossible to maintain, and immortal.
The story posted twice and removed by mods, were because he broke the rules. First he posted on c/technology when it has nothing to do with tech. Then he posted on c/news with a headline complaining that it was removed, where it’s against the rules to change the headline. So this has nothing to do with being silenced, but everything to do with not respecting the subs he posted to.
The exact same article was posted again, but with correct headline, and has not been taken down.

This explanation is grounded but I just want to point out that over the last 4 months I have blocked several Musk subs and a couple of Tesla subs. All of which were pumping out their respective subjects as spam everyday…
