You say that like you think everyone has newer cars. It’s absolutely not about that. It’s our destruction of the climate, which has killed off the majority of insects.
I did a quick search after the other replies came in, scientific consensus seems to be "more research required to be scientific about it, but looks like there are way less bugs about’
There are scientists who actually study bug strikes on vehicles. They use it to measure insect decline, and if you’re wondering, it’s massive. I think one article I read had it as high as 40% over the last 20 years in some areas.
Not just back roads, it used to be almost everywhere. Even riding your bike you often had bugs smash into your face. It’s really eerie now that it’s not a thing anymore.
15 years ago i couldn’t go for a run without getting a bunch of cluster flies in my teeth and eyes. now, i hardly see them anymore. and not just because i don’t run as often.
Insects are dying. Especially close to cities. Cars are to blame, but probably even more the human impact on nature, destroying the natural living space.
It’s fishing, just not sport fishing. It’s like saying that NASCAR is responsible for pollution. Yeah, not technically wrong, but a drop in the bucket comparatively.
It’s all my fault. I accidentally hit an entire swarm of bees with my car in the 90s and it’s all gone downhill from there. Hell of a thing to clean off.
There’s still a beer named Fucking Hell after its old name. It’s not brewed anywhere near the village, and is a pilsner rather than a Hellbier, but at least they tried a little.
You also have to love how it’s a federal holiday in some places. People who work for the government got the day off, but there was practically nothing for the legit indigenous other than seeing people wearing orange shirts.
Idk, it’s weird to me because the government played a massive role in what happened. It’s odd that the provincial government gave themselves a long weekend over it.
Thanksgiving, where we celebrate what we did to the natives.
Despite all the awful things that settlers have done to Aboriginals in Canada (and Native Americans in the USA), neither country’s Thanksgiving is about that. Canada’s Thanksgiving was originally a celebration of arrival in the New World. Over time, it became a harvest celebration.
Be sure to also avoid any Oktoberfest celebrations this month! After all it lead to the murder of 12 million people!
Or is it possible to celebrate German culture without constantly bringing up horrible things Germans have done in history? Maybe it’s possible that it wasn’t beer and lederhosen that lead to genocide?
Could it also be that eating a turkey dinner with your family also doesn’t lead to genocide?
Nah, internet says we should be angry about thanksgiving, so let’s not do any critical thinking about it! BE ANGRY!!!
Which half the provinces don’t even recognize (as in, not a stat holiday). Not that it really matters that much. No problem has ever been solved by merely declaring a holiday and there’s no shortage of shitty actions speaking louder than any holiday could.
