I can live with hold music even for an hour because I can keep it in the background.
The absolute WORST is when they play some music for 30 seconds, then the music stops, cutting to some voice recording peddling some bullshit like “try out [Product]!” or “Use our new mobile app!”. I can’t focus on anything else with it in the background because I think each time it cuts the CSR might have picked up the line.
I admit I don’t stand for that anymore. Every time I am told the person I need to speak to is working remotely or something I just remind them that they should have that sorted out by March 2020.
What I especially hate about those is that the VO is always on the “I’m super happy to tell you this” level, which just makes it ten times worse since it’s a fucking ad.
That’s because they had to put the Elon’s Twitter sign. Which is why I am not big fan of this kind of old school satire. It’s a little on the nose Everything has to have signs, subtitles and arrows so even the dumbest people can understand them. While I understand the need for that, it makes the jokes fall flat for me.
That’s because the government has had tech way beyond even what we have today. They just peace-meal it out to us bro. They’ve been coordinating mass propaganda against us 1984 style since like. Before 1984.
Also. The government is so incompetent they can’t provide health care better than private insurance companies. Obviously.
They won’t provide or create the framework for proper health care in the US because private health care is a very effective extortion scheme that can pay for the laws they want.
And the pharma companies like it like that.
"Oh, you like living? Too bad you live in the US, where we will charge you 10x what everyone else in the world pays for the insulin you need to survive. Pay up or die.
There is a reason the US has the most expensive health care system in the world, while the health care system quality using objective criteria,l is usually around rank 40-60, below practically all western countries, below cuba and comparable to Armenia or Morocco.
You're not wrong, but I think the above poster was sarcastically pointing out that people who believe that the government is highly coordinated and competent don't trust the government to run healthcare because it's too uncoordinated and incompetent. Both incredibly strong and also laughably weak.
Both eyes open can be better for your aim if you can resolve both images of the sights and place the target exactly between the images. Takes practice but seems to have a higher skill ceiling
That’s standard Markdown syntax for embedded links: instead of linking, just show the content. Usually only for images but I think some sites will allow audio (and video?!) embeds as well.
Yes, video too, but support by clients is inconsistent (some don’t show playback controls and loop it like a gif, some just display a link). By default, the media hosting server allows for up to 900 frames (up to 30-37 seconds of smooth video) and 2160p; the audio track is removed; the filesize limit is 40 MiB (most instance owners set it way lower, perhaps 5 or 10). There is a caveat: all media must be encoded to a single codec of the instance owner’s choice: VP9 (default), H264, H265, AV1, or VP8. Uploading in one of the others is possible but beware: it is going to be reencoded by the server, and if the process doesn’t finish within the timeout of 30 seconds, you get the error ffmpeg timed out. In 30 seconds, a server without HW acceleration will typically only process a very short video (for feddit.org, it’s about 1 MiB’s worth of H265) so anything longer than a few seconds will fail! To take advantage of the full upload limit, you must reencode the video yourself to VP9 or whatever other codec is set (you can tell by uploading a tiny file in any codec and inspecting the output).
You can use the following command to reencode the video to VP9:
ffmpeg -i input.mkv
-r 899/<duration> `only use this for longer videos where you need to reduce frames to 900`
-c:a libopus -b:a 48k `audio will probably be removed anyway`
-c:v vp9
-crf 32 `constant quality mode, lower is better quality, try finding lowest value satisfying filesize limit`
output.webm

FFmpeg can do much more to the video: resize, crop, trim etc. Look it up. If you want GUI, try Handbrake.
Alternatively, just use a more lenient hoster like GitHub or catbox.moe and embed the file from there, which has no aforementioned limits: ![Big Buck Bunny 4K](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c0/Big_Buck_Bunny_4K.webm) will embed a 10-minute 4K movie.
I tried to stop a while ago, in less than 2 minutes the craving was in me… I cracked, despite all my promises to myself, I breathed again. Definitely addict !
Maybe I’ve put on weight since then, wouldn’t surprise me
We are too reliant on air travel as it is. With the advent of the internet we should reduce air travel down to permitted leisure/visiting family and migration. Businesses should be able to video confernce most transactions. The situations where you absolutely need on site representation can be reduced drastically.
HA. So look, I do agree. Problem is businesses don’t care, even if we do. If you figure out a way to stop management across way too many professions from holding hour long meetings to talk about some data point that has so significance to what is actually happening, and those “leaders” who call meetings early to get the team together, when the whole damn thing could be in an email…yeah man, when you solve that, I’ll work with you to solve the rest.
Ok, but like I’m not going to solve it. It’s not also going to be solved today. I’m just saying you want to gripe about your shitty airplane experience like we need to make it a luxury resort when really we need to stop pumping carbon into the atmosphere.
I do have a selfish reason; and it’s not because I don’t vacation. It’s I travel for work and that shit is exhausting. Anyway, you’re acting like you care so go and give this a read and leave me alone you dope.
Wait till accelerating climate change makes leisure flights a thing of the past in the next decade or so, along with tame weather and dependable agriculture.
Our species is done, thanks to mindsets like yours.
We were too conservative in our estimates and other accelerating factors, like loss of the reflectivity of our arctic regions, have entered the game.
This stuff doesn’t go away on any human perceived timeframe even if we stopped entirely. Our beloved capitalists will be able protect themselves for a couple more decades beyond us peasants, but their luxury bunkers with ironically self-sustaining agricultural sections will effectively become the tombs of the families most responsible.
We were just smart enough to make technologies that helped us today and doomed us tomorrow, and still too bone dead stupid not to stop/drastically reduce using them upon discovering the consequences of their use.
I said all these brands feel the same but when I’m having a Rockefeller moment I will only fuck a cored out block of real grass fed butter because margarine will never be butter.
