When was the last time you answered a Lemmy or Reddit post/thread that was more than five months old?

I think there should be some incentive for that, like make those kinds of comments a spotlight or something. Maybe make a community called “late replies” that showcases the best such replies, or have a rule saying they grant free karma (in Reddit’s case).

PatMustard ,

Thankfully not, I don’t miss scrolling past publicly-posted comments which could have just been the save button!

PatMustard ,

Well it can remind you if you happen to look at your list of saved comments! But no, I’m not aware of any clients which have implemented timed reminders yet, unfortunately.

PatMustard ,

Anon is at least sightly self-aware, I guess

PatMustard ,

You just got Sturgeoned, your husband has been arrested for embezzlement

PatMustard ,

We’re on a lemmy.ml community, so Mali I guess

PatMustard ,

Seems like he finally listened to everyone’s suggestions that he get on the bin

What's the most interesting traditional or formal politeness behaviour or table manners in your culture? Or for any service personnel, in your restaurant? (kbin.social)

I love all the ritualized behaviour, secret meanings and unexpected taboos - standing up when someone of higher status stands, elaborate rules for serving and eating, tapping the table to thank the server, never refuse a toast from a superior, stuff like that....

PatMustard ,

Imagine losing a job because an armchair psychologist took you to the fanciest restaurant you’ve ever been to and you like salty food. Ah well, free meal!

PatMustard ,

Pretty standard in the London Underground too, despite technically being way more inefficient than if everyone just stood two people on each step!

PatMustard ,

They say English isn’t a tonal language but the way you pronounce the word “quite” can change it from being ‘unexpectedly good’ to ‘barely passable’

PatMustard ,

“Not too bad…”

PatMustard ,

Well @AngryCommieKender said the interviewer was a navy boss, I guess people at sea have very strong opinions about saltiness!

PatMustard ,

True, that was the “technically” part. If it’s rush hour and everyone is standing on all the steps on the right and everyone is walking as fast as they can on the left then the overall rate of people is less than if everyone was standing more densely. At quieter times then the people who need to rush can get there faster because they don’t need to stop at the beginning while they wait to get on.

PatMustard ,

But you can fit your hand-luggage under the seat in front

PatMustard ,

But you can fit your hand-luggage under the seat in front

PatMustard ,

Haven’t they “solved” it by charging for hand-luggage too?

PatMustard ,

Isn’t “carry on” just the American name for “hand luggage”? As in you’re only getting one free bag which has to be small enough to fit under the chair anyway, right?

PatMustard ,

You can bend your legs under the chair? Obviously I’m exaggerating but I don’t think it really takes away that much of the tiny amount of leg room you get anyway!

PatMustard ,

In addition you can bring a personal item

I see you’ve not had the pleasure of traveling with Sleazyjet before!

PatMustard ,

I’ve not known any airlines that let you bring on hand luggage that’s too big to go under the chairs so consider yourself lucky to even have that!

PatMustard ,

That was the stereotype in the west too, it only reversed when having a tan meant you were wealthy enough to have been on a summer holiday somewhere sunny!

PatMustard ,

What does “non-denominational” mean? Isn’t Baptist the denomination?

PatMustard ,

I’m guessing from the other comments in this thread that it’s just a USA thing. Super weird.

PatMustard ,

Most of the Christianity outside the USA is not like that. Still bad, but way less bad.

PatMustard ,

Isn’t 95 the bog standard stuff? I didn’t even know they sold 91 RON!

PatMustard ,

Aren’t messages the only point of LinkedIn? You create a profile which is basically your CV, set it to “looking for work”, and wait for recruiters to message you, right?

PatMustard ,

That is the trouble with relying on recruiters, there’s essentially no bar to entry so the industry is flooded with talentless chancers

PatMustard ,

It’s pretty standard in Britain to learn to drive when you’re 17. The testing seems to be much more rigorous than whatever happens in America though, and Anon would hopefully have lost their licence by now!

PatMustard ,

What do you expect them to say, “it’s all fucked, let’s shut up shop”? They’ve fired JR, undone most of his wild spending, gutted the company to desperately undo his mismanagement and make the company profitable. Saying “were trying to go back to how it was” seems like a non-insane risk-averse business way to try and keep the Unity users who haven’t been able to jump ship already.

PatMustard ,

Can you include that in the title and description please? It’s a pretty important detail to leave out!

PatMustard ,

Why are you typing “sh!t” and “f*ck”? You’re allowed to swear on the internet, you know.

PatMustard ,

Surely just don’t use the swears at all if you want to be cautious? I doubt it’s any less professional to type “f*ck” in a work email rather than “fuck”!

PatMustard ,

Take comfort in the fact that it was probably a joke

PatMustard ,

You’re going to be really unhappy when you discover the concept of inflation

PatMustard ,

Only if you say something. Pick up, say nothing, if it’s a robot waiting to hear a voice it will hang up, if it’s a real human you’ll get a “hello?”

PatMustard ,

I guess “normies” was becoming too mainstream

PatMustard , (edited )

Still third-person though really

PatMustard ,

What is an “online persona”? Stop trying to turn my tech support forum into Facebook!

PatMustard ,

Do you guys not have taps that water comes out of?

PatMustard ,

Wtf, my condolences on the lack of hygiene regulations in your county

PatMustard ,

This one is very difficult, I only got close thanks to a typo!

PatMustard ,

This is a good one, though I was much better at the local version

PatMustard ,

Russia had already tried to join NATO multiple times

Russia has requested to join the defensive pact against Russia

PatMustard ,

I blame games back then for calling bots/AI “CPU” characters, short for “computer”
