Angels attacked a friend of mine for more than 90 minutes, taking off and eating part of her legs, arms, breast and face. The paramedics that eventually brought her to the hospital were so traumatized they still have not returned to work. My friend has had 11 reconstructive surgeries so far.
Ah yes, dogs made to hunt and maim humans hurt your friend, so all dogs are bad as a consequence.
I’m truly sorry for what happened to your friend, but people are 100% responsible for their pets. Be not angry at the dogs, but the person that owned them.
Fez 2 was announced as “one more thing” at the end of the June 2013 Horizon indie game press conference, held during the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo.[111] The project was canceled a month later following a Twitter argument between Fish and video game journalist Marcus Beer. In an episode of Beer’s GameTrailers show Invisible Walls, the journalist criticized Fish’s response to questions about Microsoft’s Xbox One self-publishing policy change. Fish replied on Twitter with condemnation for the industry’s negativity and, in a final tweet, announced both Fez 2’s cancellation and his exit from the industry.[110] The news came as a surprise to the rest of his company,[112] which has not commented on upcoming projects other than ports since the sequel’s cancellation.[113] Polygon listed Fish in their top 50 newsmakers of 2013 for the social power of his “caustic use of Twitter”.
That’s true, I don’t! Is it pronounced the same in all regions of France? Does Quebec French pronounce it differently? I know very little about French, this just made me laugh.
It would be pronounced like a female cat, Chatte gé pé té. But most of us Quebecois would probably pronounce it exactly as in English, with an English accent.
Also Remember, stealing from publically traded corporations is stealing from sociopathic thieves that have no problem hurting vulnerable people to get what they want, in the name of insatiable greed “rational self-interest.”
They dictate the laws to their paid lackees in Congress. Equating legality with ethics or morality in this capitalist captured dystopia makes one a fool. Our laws are designed to defend the desires of property owners against the basic survival needs of human beings with nothing that our society has already catastrophically failed.
You can catch charges for the misdeed of feeding the homeless here.
(and to anyone who wants to chime in with “well feeding homeless people might make them linger, effecting property values which needs to be a consideration alongside feeding hungry poor people.” 🖕)
They factor it into their decision to use self checkout. If the increase in shoplifting is less than they save on staff reduction (it is, significantly so), they consider it a tradeoff, so it’s hard to call it unethical.
Modern engineers: we need to make sure it breaks at approximately 36 months to ensure low ability to claim warranty while also ensuring the customer believes it could have been a fluke.
Or, roughly translated into engineer speak…”anyone can build an aqueduct, it takes skill to build an aqueduct using the minimum amount of material required”.
It depends on the way you think about it. When designing, I want all my parts (other than user replaceable wear components) to fail at the same time. That means nothing is the weakest link, failing earlier than the design otherwise could handle.
Because the a in woman is pronounced the same way the e in women is pronounced…
Probably that was originally introduced by some medieval swinger society, so they could say that they are faithful to their women and technically not be lying about it. When the church figured out they introduced the o as an i thing.
i always eas taught the plural to be pronounced as “wi-men” I also cannot remember any english TV show or so to talk about wimin, so where the second ibis explicit as an i and distinguishable from an e
Say the word “though” in your head. Then add a “t” to it. Would you really argue that “though” and “thought” are pronounced the same simply because they’re the same spelling save for a final “t”?
The easiest “rule” is that the creator can decide how to pronounce and spell it lol. Taking English rules that don’t even apply 100% of the time to its own words and trying to hold made-up words to the same standards just sounds silly to me haha
Nobody made english, nor is a language static. It is an everchanging result of millions of people using and evolving it.
A language that doesn’t change is dead, like latin is. So any rule of how something is supposed to be in a language is subject to time and place, but never absolute.
That’s my point. If everyone pronounces a word a certain way, THAT is its correct pronunciation. The first person to say a thing doesn’t get to tell everyone else they’re wrong.
Everyone started using the word “literally” to mean figuratively, so the official definition changed to mean either or.
Everyone says GIF similar to gift, then that’s the proper pronunciation. Creator has no say.
There are so many examples in this thread alone as to why this rule doesn’t work.
SCUBA: the U is for “underwater” and the A is for “apparatus”. We don’t pronounce it “SC-uh-B-ahhh”.
JPEG: The P is for “photographic”. We don’t pronounce it “JayFeg”.
LASER: The E is for “emission”. We don’t pronounce it “Lay-See-R”.
RADAR: The second A is for “And” (lol). We don’t pronounce it “Ray-Day-R”.
The easiest “rule” is just the guy who made it up can dictate how they want it spelled and to pronounce. The word is made up anyway, and isn’t subject to rules that actual English words have been subjected to for however long the language evolved.
The guy that came up with with the acronym for unidentified flying object also wrote that it should pronounced you-fo but everyone spells it out because that is less confusing. So there is an example of the creator being ignored.
I’m sorry, but he waited 26 years to tell everyone how it’s pronounced… at this point you can go with the majority, or stick with however you want to pronounce it.
Neigh. The picture is only showing from the (human) wrist down. Horse legs and most (all?) mammal quadruped legs actually pretty closely resemble each other.
It’s actually a really interesting question. It’s commonly believed that on horses the vestigial remnants of additional toes/hooves/foot structure are the chestnuts and ergots. The first known horse had 3 and 4 hooves per leg! https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/b35b141b-7684-42e4-a745-1ff2d5a94587.png
https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/d6b8bc87-d0cf-4bb8-bfa6-787e09524093.png This is a trimmed chestnut. They grow a material similar to a nail or horse hoof - ergots are similar, but in a different location. When they get big you just peel or clip it off. They can smell a bit strong when you trim them, but hooves smell worse when the farrier comes out!
Something fun to mess with in Civ V is on small custom maps with designated start points, when start bias can’t take effect it will always place players on points starting from bottom right going left and then from bottom to top.
Example: Player 1 will always be placed on the lowest tile furthest to the right.
You can use this to get the deity achievment if you just don’t give the AI any workable tiles.
I had a friend that played civ, he invited me to multiplayer. Little did I know, he plays against the hardest bots on a regular basis. I had only done like, two single player games.
I like playing with my sister because we both regularly play on Deity difficulty and playing against each other is the only way either of us can be challenged anymore. Of course many times we just team up against the rest of the world.
That’s what sucks about Civ (and EU4, HOI4 and the like for that matter) — once you figure out how it works and you start winning it becomes boring in single player.
And then for multiplayer it’s hard to find someone committed to playing for long stretches of time consistently.
IMO games where losing is fun is where it’s at, like Crusader Kings, Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress.
Speaking of DF and EU4: I just heard about Songs of Syx not too long ago that’s basically Dwarf Fortress/Rimworld combined with EU/HOI. A granular empire builder, where you also have other competing empires to conquer or ally with. It looks dope, and I might get it.
Too many people got trolled into “removing the French language pack” on Linux systems that there’s now a check to see if someone is deleting every file off their computer (including the os system files). --no-preserve-root is the option you need to include to actually delete all the files off your system.
