DRI_PRIME=1 goes brrrr

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

Idk, i specifically plug it into motherboard since i use cheap used gpus that can break easily, example is Nvidia p106, it doesn’t even have video output, and it’s easier to flip DRI_PRIME from 1 to 0 than redo the cables

Search Nvidia p40 24gb on eBay, 200$ each and surprisingly good for selfhosted llm, if you plan to build array of gpus then search for p100 16gb, same price but unlike p40, p100 supports nvlink, and these 16gb is hbm2 memory with 4096bit bandwidth so it’s still competitive in llm field while p40 24gb is gddr5 so it’s good point is amount of memory for money it cost but it’s rather slow compared to p100 and compared to p100 it doesn’t support nvlink

Try ryzen 8700g integrated gpu for transcoding since it supports av1 and these p series gpus for llm/stable diffusion, would be a good mix i think, or if you don’t have budget for new build, then buy intel a380 gpu for transcoding, you can attach it as mining gpu through pcie riser, linus tech tips tested this gpu for transcoding as i remember

Ryzen 3700? Or rtx 3070? Please elaborate

I looked it up, rtx 3070 have nvlink capabilities though i wonder if all of them have it, so you can pair it if it have nvlink capabilities

It depends, if you want to run llm data center gpus are better, if you want to run general purpose tasks then newer silicon is better, in my case i prefer build to offload tasks, since I’m daily driving linux, my dream build is main gpu is amd rx 7600xt 16gb, Nvidia p40 for llms and ryzen 8700g 780m igpu for transcoding and light tasks, that way you’ll have your usual gaming home pc that also serves as a server in the background while being used

I got 3 netbooks for libreoffice and vlc usage, 2 on intel atom and one on amd brazos, flashed opensuse tumbleweed, yeah its not fast even though I upgraded it to 8gb ddr3 ram 360gb ssd and wifi 6e ax210 card, but it’s good portable 10 inch machine for 20$ each and 40$ for upgrades for each

I think amd is worth it’s money tho, they scale their price to match their nvidia counterparts performance wise, i mean 7900xtx worth just as much as 4080 and performs as such but have more memory and is a better match for Linux gaming

Try pipepipe, they update more often than OG newpipe/tubular

Windows 11 iot enterprise + opensuse tumbleweed kde works flawlessly

China reverse engineering EVERYTHING if you think they can’t, you clearly don’t see previous history, they aren’t fast but they WILL do it eventually, if there’s enough motivation (sanctions or/and profit)

@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

inshallah brother

bruhduh ,
@bruhduh@lemmy.world avatar

I said that aren’t fast, but they get job done, why do you think there are so many Chinese engineers working around the globe? They get rehired for very good money by Chinese companies when they get enough expertise, Chinese companies headhunt too

Is there any modern FOSS firmware for Linksys WRT54G routers? Is it possible for me to compile the latest version of OpenWRT for a WRT54G router with 4 MB of flash and 16 MB of RAM?

I have a few different Linksys WRT54G routers and I’ve installed DD-WRT - build number 44715 - on them. However, this build appears to have been made in 2020. So, I was wondering if there’s a more modern version of dd-wrt for this router. If not, is it possible for me to compile the latest version of OpenWRT for these...

Bro, resolder ram and rom, i recently upgraded spi chip in my xiaomi 4a to 32 megabytes or 256 megabits if i have to be precise and it’s working fine in my apartment right now, but remember, most devices still have troubles with wpa3 security protocol, also remember to turn off option “dissociate on low acknowledgment” because your devices gonna be reconnecting constantly because of these options, also ram upgradable too, but difficulty is higher, i upgraded ram to 64 megabytes and flash to 32 megabytes in my tplink wr740n recently, flash upgrade is doing good, but ram not so good even though on openwrt wiki there’s mentioned that d43 64 megabytes ram chips should work just fine, but I’m working through it, also i have tplink wr841n and dlink dir 300 and dir 615 to upgrade, then i have to try to port firmware to my another netis router, so far it’s easy to compile what was already ported, problem arise when you have to adapt drivers or unsupported architectures, for example, i have compiler for dlink and netis available but they were not ported into openwrt yet so i will have to do it myself

So what did it take for you to go to Linux? (kbin.melroy.org)

I'm asking what big motivational factors contributed to you into going Linux full-time. I don't count minor inconveniences like 'oh, stutter lag in a game on windows' because that really could be anything in any system. I'm talking, something Windows or Microsoft has done that was so big, that made you go "fuck this, I will go...
