As an American living abroad I can honestly say I don’t miss being required to drive everywhere. Haven’t owned a car in six years and there’s like 2 times a year I need a car so I just rent one. Way cheaper that way.
I do 3D scanning for one of the more popular high end sites. The guys coat their junk in smooth on & pour silicon in the resulting plaster mold, then send that to me to scan, embedded pubes & all. Not my favorite job but it’s an honest living. Just wish they’d send me some silicon vaginas every once in a while.
Edit: Oh, and Yvette knew exactly wtf she was doing
Its about war and not valuing human life. Slavic countries historically lose huge amounts of men on the battlefield over and over… so the ratio of available men to women are thrown way off. the surviving men take their pick of the litter for mates.
I would say it’s because the modern material circumstances of the state has led them to a surplus of manpower compared to their enemies but a deficiency in industrial efficiency…
But two things can be both true and interdependent.
My covid project was a 5000 pieces puzzle of the capilla sixtina. The first two pieces was God’s finger touching its creation… but that was pure luck. Anyway, I couldn’t get the borders till the very end.
Side note for the entusiast, a 5000 pieces puzzle means that a ~16 m2 room will be unusable for 6 to 18 months. It’s a pretty fulfilling journey
You mean Delacroix’s liberty leading the people? I envy you, that’s a hell of a masterpiece for a puzzle. I glued my capella sistina to an MDF plate and hanged it on the wall and it really stills all the views.
My advice, wait till the right moment comes…it can get terribly frustrating at times and it’s a pretty long work. Make sure to have a big plain surface to work, keep rumba under strict control and start with the boob pop’n out, so you know what are you fighting for.
Is there some special type of 5000 piece enthusiast puzzle I haven’t heard of? A regular 5000 piece puzzle should take up one large table with a little spillover depending on style and like 50 hours of total work, so easily a month tops. I can’t imagine anyone taking 18 months.
The “normal” way of starting a puzzle is to start with the edges. You can find the edge pieces easier due to the flat side, which makes it a good place to start when you have many pieces.
You have to spread all the pieces out when you get them out of the box, so it makes sense to separate out the edge pieces while you’re spreading and flipping pieces.
i have more puzzles than i can count, and many 5k. i've never run into edge collisions that numbers so many it couldnt be resolved with other edge pieces. maybe ive just been lucky, but 'edge piece collisions' arent really an issue
i always do edges first to get an idea of dimensions, sorting all by temperature/texture/pattern (if plausible) next
The thing is if you start with a frame it takes up more space, and it’s more difficult to move finished portions unside. Without the constraints of the frame you are free to position your portions where you want before merging.
Okay so in reality you don’t complete the entire frame before starting anything else. It may be 90% complete after initial sorting and flipping of pieces, so there are gaps in the border through which you can move finished portions.
Additionally, I would typically keep most of the unsorted pieces outside the frame and then build portions inside the frame.
All of those are in the format of how the Tamarians in Star Trek speak. They speak in metaphor, which completely fucks with the universal translator (since it’s translating what they’re saying rather than what they mean).
Just in case you were looking for context. Also know as, my little morning info dump.
Holy cow, probably real happy it got released later. Though honestly it’s funnier that ice cream guy went deep into the mountains to finally enjoy his cone in peace and still got robbed.
Technically she said his grades improved while she was his teacher. Though the headline implies she said his grades improved because of their sexual relations.
The media love to bend statements to get a reaction
“They won’t be happy until we are all gay.” I thought Barbie and Ken were the quintessential straight couple? I haven’t watched the film but that is so odd.
Once back in high school, I was walking down the hall with a female friend of mine, and some dumb redneck yelled, “HEY! LOOKIT THE F***T WITH HIS LESBIAN GIRLFRIEND!” I almost died laughing.
I would have few problems with Christianity if Dolly was the standard Christians tried to live up to. They sure as hell don’t try to live up to Christ’s standards.
I mean, in context that verse is about being aware one’s belief in Jesus may cause strife with their family/community, and how Christians are meant to endure this strife without denying their faith. The choice of wording makes sense in the context of the time it was written, when affirming Christ is God would have absolutely caused some major animosity with those who don’t believe. It’s assuring the reader that the division and pain that will come from those disagreements is not lost on God, and also not something we can turn away from and ignore.
The Christians that everyone is up in arms about all the time are close to the worst representation of the faith as possible, and you can easily point out their lazy interpretations as well as scripture that, more often than not, outright rejects their twisting of the faith. Modern day Pharisees all the way. Unfortunately the church on a national level is inundated with them, and has done a poor job of separating from them.
There are many Christians whose faith does not involve pushing the law on others, but instead focus on the gospel and its inclusive nature.
These aren’t the loud ones who push regressive policies. Because the ones pushing regressive policies aren’t doing so because their religion tells them to, they’re making their religion fit whatever they feel the world should look like, picking and choosing which rules to follow or ignore based on their worldview, shaping their religion to fit their bigotry. They would hate Jesus, who preached paying taxes, being generous to the needy, and accepting sinners and those despised by the establishment of the time.
they should be the loud ones though, i really struggle to see how you can be a good christian in america without having john brown as a role model.
like, the Swedish Church (closest we have to a state religion) is actively and aggressively pro-lgbt, if anyone tries to spread hate they smack them with a bible and shut that shit down fast.
Sensible religious people don’t have to sit in the background doing charity work like a sailor futilely scooping water out of a leaky boat, they can speak up and push back against what can be rightfully classed as blasphemy that spreads hate and injustice.
I was in Salem, MA for Halloween and there were more than a couple assholes preaching hellfire and brimstone to anyone celebrating the “evil” holiday.
My first thought was to dress up like Jesus and carry a sign that says “My Dad thinks this guy is an asshole.” I’ve got the hair and beard to pull it off.
I’m not saying the open and affirming churches don’t fight for causes and social justice.
I’m just saying that they’re not the ones running governments and controlling rural populations. Those people don’t want to hear it. It’s just like how they abandoned Fox News for Newsmax and OAN when Fox called the election for Biden. To them, religion is a source of validation, not something to emulate or follow. They don’t want to be challenged.
There was an article a while back about a pastor who said someone in his congregation argued with him about something he said in his sermon, which had been Christ’s own words. The congregant said, “That’s not Christian, it’s too weak.” Or something to that effect.
Through my teenage years I got wrapped up in an evangelical environment, but as an adult found my way to a non- denominational church. It was eye opening. The more I talked to the pastor, learned and read, I realized that people get wrapped up in their denominations like sports teams. And since the different denominations come about because of different interpretations of Scripture and the “rules” some group puts into place for their team, no wonder it’s the perfect environment for creating a culture of control and abuse for those seeking power.
This doesn’t make me not believe in God, this makes me not trust the motivations of people in power. On the day to day, I try to be the best I can to people around me, and share love, kindness, and respect. That’s my big take away from Jesus’ teachings at least.
I mentioned elsewhere- it’s one of the few movies where sex workers aren’t demonized. And then ending… His political career will be over if he marries the madam? Oh well, love is love.
I discovered today that the director of 9 to 5 also directed that film, which doesn’t surprise me.
yeah, when hillary called the trump cultists deplorable, and a bunch of people wigged out, crying about her saying mean things, all I could think about is how I have heard that, and much worse, from right wing media, for as long as I have memories. At the time people would say “but she did it as a candidate on an official forum”, or something similar, while her rival was just a sewer vomiting this type of sentiment, and worse, on a daily basis. And all the people who spent so much time calling everyone snowflakes, completely melted down over one insult.
I call them redcaps, and have a pretty clear definition, the kind of person who may or may not insist that they’re just bummed about economics or something, but when approached with progressive economic policy react by asking “…but can we still say the N Word?”
Not just that but “stress” in biochemistry/biomedicine could fill entire semesters full of lectures. On a hormonal, neurological, cellular level - stress is freaking fascinating.
Can you explain the tweet for me? First of all it implies that being poor or minority generates more stress than being rich or part of the majority, but then what about the molecular level?
As an example, being under this kind of chronic stress will very likely raise your cortisol levels, along with other hormones and neurotransmitters. Cortisol is great in the short term, but long term it suppresses the immune system, which means people are more susceptible to infection and diseases. It might even cause cancer defense to go down and make patients more likely to have worse treatment outcomes and be more likely to die from cancer (iirc from a lecture each day on average your body develops 6 new cancer cells. That means each day your body manages to identify and kill 6 cells that, if they don’t get detected, would cause cancer. You gotta have a good immune system to catch those cells. But please don’t quote me on that number, it was a random thing the prof said.)
Other reasons why being poor or a minority would lead to being sick are ofc food (cheap food is low in quality, for example it is usually low in fiber, which has been shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer or diverticulitis - and, obviously, obesity, diabetes, cholesterol and therelike). Being a minority also means that medication that works well for white males will work differently and therefore possibly worse on you. Most clinical studies in the past have been done on white males, and they have a different expression and/or different “versions” of certain enzymes that activate/deactivate drug compounds. (This problem also hits women who are often avoided in studies because of risk of pregnancy.)
If a poor person came in to the doctors office, they wouldn’t be getting adequate care if the doctor didn’t understand the impact their conditions have on their physical body.
Stress can exacerbate almost every medical condition. The boat doesn’t perform normally when it’s under stress. It can affect pregnancy like crazy which affects every single person in the world. Every single person comes from a pregnancy. Stress can affect sleep which also negatively affects like every condition.
Being poor is a chronic condition and the only cure is money.
Being a minority is a genetic condition for which there is no cure.
The funny thing is, neither of these are a problem with the individual, but a problem with society itself. We, collectively, are the disease, and these pre-existing conditions make it much easier to contract.
Medicine needs to be approached holistically. Especially for primary care. Stress is absolutely a factor in holistic care. A collegiate trimester is 12-13 weeks, and a semester is 15-17. I suspect this wasn’t the only topic covered in class.
So what I’m reading is a truck driver can invite as many guests as they want to shower with them there, so long as none of those guests are also truck drivers.
Weird rules for the orgy shower, but who am I to judge?
I think it was joke. You are the one that decided to take it as political. Also, probably shouldn’t try to come as “better than thou” when your username looks like a 13 yo sat down and tried to think up the grossest thing they could while nonstop snickering to themselves the entire time because of how edgy and funny they are.
I started work at a place, and heard a story of a lady who caught two guys in the women’s showers the day before. I don’t think a sign on the door is going to change much, certainly not after that day.
Suicide is contagious. It’s the reason why schools are recommended against having memorial pages in yearbooks and stuff for students who killed themselves. It encourages more suicides.
Yeah I was also really surprised by the contagiousness of suicide. When I first saw the article I linked I thought “how cruel they won’t give a student a space in the yearbook, it would help the grieving family so much”. Then I read it all and it made sense. I feel horrible for those families but at the same time they likely don’t want to be responsible for other families suffering what they have gone through just to have a photo of their child in the yearbook.
I don’t remember how I heard about it, but I was in the middle of my “fuck everyone and everything people enjoy” phase of being a teenager, so I was probably happy about it unfortunately.
I was 14 and I remember it quite well. All us teens in the park behind our apartment building had long discussion about it. I also remember all the copy cat suicides that followed his death to.
Kurt Cobain would have utterly hated Chaya Raichik. I don’t know about Kris Noviselic (apparently he’s gotten a bit weird politically) but I’d bet Dave Grohl despises her.
For anyone wondering, Chaya Raichik is the reactionary ghoul who runs Libs of TikTok. I actually had no idea this was a semi-famous person until you actually made a comment about them.
This nonsense again? John Hislop runs a gambling blog for money, and published this googlebait years ago to get sweet SEO candy. Clearly it’s still working.
Well if we can redefine words where “center” becomes “far left” and “antisemitic” means exclusively “antizionist,” why can’t we redefine memes and yes, seo people who abuse seo are still the devil.
