Pfft, I knew that from Ben 10. (I didn’t, I just recognized it as a type of bug.)

Sotuanduso ,

It’s called touching your toes. Look it up.

Sotuanduso ,

But they’re naturally not us for some reason, right?

Sotuanduso ,

The terms are that you have to insert your license agreement text? Man.

Sotuanduso ,

For your average art, I can see that. But movies and TV shows take a lot more than just someone with a passion. You’d need some system to decide whose movie idea is worth pursuing, and you’d need a robust mechanism to get them a team to make it with. Capatalism has a lot of flaws, yes, but at least if you write a role for a specific actor, you can pay them to do it instead of just hoping they’ll like it enough to sign on.

And yeah, we can have those systems under communism, but they don’t come automatically, so it’s not going to be instantly far better.

I think I’ve seen mac and cheese cups that ask for hot water.

The dog is polite enough to stop chewing so you can force their mouth open, but doesn’t grasp the concept of dropping it on their own.

If you want a more accurate translation/explanation of the lyircs: Hast and hasst are homophones. Hast means have and hasst means hate. At the start, it sounds like it’s “du hasst mich” (you hate me,) because the alternative doesn’t make sense. But then when gefragt is added, the past tense of ask, it becomes “you have asked me.”

“Und ich hab nichts gesagt” means “and I said nothing.” Nein should be translated to no, but otherwise it’s pretty much just wedding vows. That translation is not literal, but that’s to be expected for songs.

Du
Du hast
Du hast es
Du hast es gemacht

Sotuanduso ,

Something I learned fairly early in German class.

Sotuanduso ,

It’s a slur, that’s why. Some slurs are major slurs that are considered offensive even when it’s not referring to someone, and I think this is one of them. They’re often forbidden because of it, and a lot of people find it easier to follow universal rules than to check the rules of each place they post, because the universal rules will keep you in the clear 95% of the time. And even if not, it’s still respectable to not want to use slurs.

And yeah, it did used to be a lot more common. And before that, it was a medical term. That’s the way it goes, we have a word to insult people’s intelligence, doctors deal with patients who have a disorder causing that, they don’t want to use the mean word to refer to the patients, they come up with a new word for it, the word gets out, and then everyone makes it a new word to insult intelligence. Though this one seems to be taking a different track because it hit modern sensibilities, and at the same time I think doctors now know better than to come up with a new word for mental deficiencies.

Sotuanduso ,

That’s what it’s called, okay. I didn’t remember the term.

Sotuanduso ,

Tales of Vesperia. I like the combat system most, but the story’s pretty good, and there’s a lot of optional content.

Sotuanduso ,

“Please adjust your brightness so this shape is barely visible.”

Nah, I’m cranking that way up. I get that there’s an art, but I’d rather not be straining my eyes and ears.

Sotuanduso ,

Lemmy can have its fair share of echo chamber syndrome. For example, almost nobody here vocally likes Reddit, and if you post anything pro-Reddit, it’s likely to be met with a lot of negativity. I’m anti-Reddit too, for the record, but it’s good to acknowledge tribalism even when you agree with the tribe. But the nice part is Lemmy can’t have competing echo chambers nearly as easily as Reddit can because we’re so much smaller.

Sotuanduso ,

But that doesn’t mean everything goes in the memes community. For example, uploading a mere T-shirt would be met with primarily downvotes.

Sotuanduso ,

I meant as a post, not a comment, but nice.

Sotuanduso ,

Aww, I was hoping it was a replica. That would have been really funny.

Sotuanduso ,

A housecat can kill a level 1 commoner, you know.

Sotuanduso ,

Why should pickles have to do it? The fudge is just as capable of getting itself out.

Sotuanduso ,

If they can downscale enough, they should be able to pass this test.

Sotuanduso ,

Oh hey I think I’m in this picture.

Sotuanduso ,

I was with you until you started trash-talking people who enjoy media that is specifically designed to be enjoyed.

Sotuanduso ,

What about long-running animated movie series, like the DCAMU? Well, it might not be your jam because it gets dystopian at some parts.

Sotuanduso ,

Yeah, I understand that. The DCAMU is one 16-movie universe, so no reboots to worry about, but if you do want to watch it, skip the Flashpoint Paradox. That movie is very much all over the place, especially for the “first” movie in the series. It’s technically not part of the universe, but it’s the origin story of the universe. I would highly recommend just reading a synopsis and skipping to the second movie, which is the origin story for the Justice League in that universe.

Also, animated DC and live action DC are worlds apart. The animated movies and shows have consistently been far better (with one exception being the Flashpoint Paradox. I honestly think the live action version of that was better.)

I would compare the DCAMU to the MCU (maybe just up through Endgame.) A key difference is that the MCU is convergent (they spin up new storylines and tie them into the main thread) and the DCAMU is divergent (they create spinoffs and loop them back in later.) A lot of MCU wannabes try and fail by going with the divergent model, but the DCAMU pulls it off pretty well in my opinion.

Sotuanduso ,

Thanks, your words make me happy, even if it is just on the topic of recommending superhero movies.

I wouldn’t take my recommendation at face value if you’re picky, because I do like the vast majority of superhero movies I’ve seen, including almost all of the MCU. I’m very much not picky, but I do feel like the DCAMU is one of the most epic superhero movie sagas out there.

Also, the MCU is only at 33 films, which is still a lot.

Sotuanduso ,

It’s probably counting things like the X-Men movies, Spider-Man movies, Blade, Fantastic Four, etc… Things that might be/get tied into the MCU, but aren’t really a part of it.

As for the DCAMU, yeah, it’s more adult. Some of the movies were too adult for me - one of the things I am picky about. It’s the reason I don’t like the Suicide Squad (I really like the concept, but the crude humor isn’t for me.) The movies are also edgier than the MCU, but I can’t say whether they’re edgier than the live action DCEU; I haven’t watched most of them, but I know they tend to be darker to a fault.

Sotuanduso ,

Wouldn’t that be three in a thousand?

Sotuanduso ,

“I am trash.”
Boring.
Self deprecating.

“I am trash incarnate.”
Intriguing.
Sounds kinda epic.
Self deprecating.

Sotuanduso ,

I’ve never seen that association with my friends who use it. It’s always been more of a meme word, a meaningless adjective you throw into a sentence to make it “funnier.”

Sotuanduso ,

It seems more likely to me than that a captain would bring his daughter onto his ship with a bunch of untrustworthy men and career violence.

Sotuanduso ,

Don’t worry about it, maybe if you train up your critical thinking skills you’ll be able to find the fault in my point.

Sotuanduso ,

The accidental header formatting makes this so much better.

Sotuanduso ,

That first one happened to me too. I think it’s just a teenage drama thing.

Sotuanduso ,

Well that image cleared my sinus and gave me a sense of disgust.

Sotuanduso ,

Do they do that? I’ve had my laptop for a while, and it’s never happened to me.

Sotuanduso ,

I know… Anyways, I’m looking forward to going home this weekend. Maybe I’ll make myself a cold hotdog with the works when I get there, that’s always a good choice.
