Was just gonna say I’ve put an embarrassing amount of hours into Satisfactory, which is an “early access” game I paid like $20 for. Nothing wrong with it. It’s not an abandoned product, but even if it was I’d have a hard time complaining about it.
I have 1000 hours in Satisfactory. And there’s a LOT currently wrong with it. Tons of bugs, incomplete mechanics, performance issues, and it got worse in Update 8 not better because of the engine update.
That said, the team is working on it, Coffee Stain will get it ironed out and release a solid v1.0.
Yeah it’s alpha software. Even fully developed AAA titles ship with bugs. My point is they haven’t decreased my enjoyment of the game at all, and that’s a counterpoint to the meme.
KSP 1 started small and free, added more stuff and went purchase but cheap. On the other hand, KSP 2 went straight for full-price AAA game price yet lacked a ton of features and terrible performance (it was clearly rushed out).
I wonder if that has much to do with the original being made by a small startup company named Squad, while the sequel lists Intercept Games as the developer and Pirate Division as the publisher?
As the only Asian person in my elementary and middle Long Island school, I was subjected to pranks all the time. I found that the less I react to their pranks, the less they would continue the prank. It didn’t stop the prank. Just less of it.
I know those school shootings are awful and I would never wish this horror to anyone. But as someone who was constantly bullied, I have a slight hint of understanding why they would have done it. Again, I don’t think what they did was right, but I certainly understand why they would.
I was bullied enough to understand how someone would think for a moment about hurting their bullies like that… maybe even some of the rich kids who laughed. But murdering indiscriminately? It’s a whole different mentally deranged thing to consider
I think when you feel entitled and think everyone in school is looking and laughing at you. Ya, it’s probably not indiscriminately in this person’s eye.
I was bullied from grades 3 halfway thru 12. In grade 9 it began to get physical. In grade 12 it stopped being physical after my bully, a weightlifter and football player, pulled back a basketball and threw it with all his strength at the back of my head in gym. I broke his nose.
I am not particularly proud of it. I am not bragging. Though multiple times throughout the years I wondered how no one noticed. As the years went on I saw other students look away, if they weren’t laughing at me. I then began to notice the rare teacher look once and then act like they saw nothing.
To me, what some of these kids do doesn’t seem like that much of a stretch. I think this way because of my experiences, amongst other family issues that were also happening. While I am not wholly certain, when I dig deep, it’s possible one of the key reasons nothing more happened is because after I snapped it all stopped.
The line is thinner than you realize, I think.
Funny thing is, now that I’m older, I understand that I handled everything well by the perspective of people who believe the wall of “don’t hurt others” doesn’t have a door in it. Just a ton of trauma and general mistrust for anyone who happens to be male and anyone in authority, and a very deep dislike for injustice and preventable incidents.
Yeah tho fr, i’m west indian and there was a lot of veiled racism in school. Didn’t really notice/thought it wasn’t a big deal until i went to college and realized that shit DEF wasn’t normal
Everyone is afraid to admit they have dark thoughts. It only exacerbates the problem. If someone admits they have dark thoughts they will be treated differently and it’s easy to think it will only make thier situation harder.
People could do a better job of not hiding the fact that maybe the notion of being the most evil person they can imagine has crossed their mind. It could really help some people struggling with obsessive intrusive thougts.
I too was bullied in school and when i was about to start high school we had to change home and school . The first two years i got bullied a lot but then i got tired of it and became the bully now i bully the bullies. This may come of as edgy , cringe advice but it is what worked for me . Complaining to authorities or ignoring will never even remotly stop it trust me i did try .
Che Guevara, he was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary and guerilla. Close friend of Fidel Castro and played an important role in the Cuban revolution.
This particular image of him is a famous photograph taken during a memorial service for the victims of a ship that exploded. It’s become an iconic image presumably due to his somber expression, but is also associated with rebellion when used commercially, which is of course a weird irony.
He remains a controversial figure. National hero in Cuba, and regarded by those of a socialist and communist persuasion as an anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist hero and champion of the poor. Liberals and conservatives on the other hand view him as a brutal murderer.
He was a complex character that you’d need to read about in depth to form an opinion on.
One piece is the definition of “It’s the journey, not the destination.” Nothing the One Piece could actually be would be worth 23 years worth of content hyping it up.
(I myself am still a fan of the “one-(head)-piece” that make someone a king, but has to be an item that has been around since the first season theory. Gee, I wonder what that head-piece could be?)
Yea luffy’s hat. It’s been a while since I read the Manga, I could have sworn gold d Roger had the straw hat when he got executed but it wasn’t present in the live action show.
Gol D Roger had the straw hat way before visiting Laugh tale. That would be worse than “It was all a dream”, or “The one piece was the friends you made along the way”. Both of which have been debunked by Oda.
Personally I subscribe to the theory that the World Government is whom split the world into 4 pieces during the Void Century. Whatever the One Piece is - it will have the power to rejoin the 4 oceans.
It would solve every dream of all the Straw Hat Pirates. It would literally make the world One Piece again.
Could be the Poneglyphs told of a person who obviously was not Roger. Gol was not the greedy, selfish type.
Could be that the Poneglyph required something Roger did not have like the Hito Hito no Mi: Nika fruit >!- the same as JoyBoy!<. Maybe it required the power of Poseidon (who wasn’t born yet), Pluto, Uranus, or the Noah ship. Possibly all of them.
!Roger was dying by the time he saw the One Piece.!<
There’s a lot of reasons he didn’t, or couldn’t do anything with it.
Favourite theory I heard was that the One Piece refers to all of the oceans being joined by destroying the strip of land in the centre of the cross shaped continent. They foreshadow it by having every character dream about the different types of fish all co-habiting in the same ocean.
The destruction/removal of the Red Line which is the Mountainois ridges that go North to South round the world. But you would still have the Grand (East to West) that would prevent all 4 oceans from meeting.
The last panel is infinitely more readable than parsing the whole chunk of logic above. Maybe you’re just not used to this language’s (I think this meme used C#) null operators.
Sure, if the rest of the team is first semester CS students doing their first group project. This is not an obscure 1337 h4x0r trick only known to programming gods writing COBOL code inside banking mainframes, it’s a simple operator.
This is why I usually don’t comment on stuff like this in PRs. If it’s readable and easy to understand it doesn’t need more abstractions. Even if it’s less code. What’s it save like a few bytes? That’s not as useful as the whole team instantly knowing how the code works when they see it lol
I will say though if a jr dev came upon the last code they would just look it up and learn something so that’s a total valid path too. Just depends on your codebase and how your team works. I think it usually ends up being a mix with larger teams.
Yeah, I think there is a tipping point between terse and magic. I might grimace a little at the first one, have no comment on the middle two, and definitely comment on the last one. Wrote code like the person troubleshooting it is on-call, mildly hung over, and it’s 3am.
There’s more to it imho. The first three are more prone to mistakes than the last. You are much less likely to accidentally alter the logic intended in a simple null coalesce than you are in if statements.
None of my projects had time for reliable testing unfortunately. It was always “next sprint” or “when we have time” which never really came to fruition.
This is why I favor 3. It’s fairly concise while not being all that obscure. And even if you’re not 100% on that syntax, context provides decent intuition about what it does.
I’m confused on how this is difficult to understand. Put aside the fact that it’s just a regular operator that… I mean virtually everyone should know, how hard is it to google “what does ?? mean in [language]” which has the added benefit of learning a new operator that can clean up your code?
Which option do you think requires less time for a person to identify and understand?
Sure if it’s just your own code do whatever comes natural to you but there’s a reason we don’t use these kind of logical operators in day to day speech is my point.
Ive been a backend dev for 2 years now and I’ve never come across the ?? operator and every time I come across a ternary operator I have to Google in what order comes what.
Not saying it doesn’t make the code more concise and less “noisy” but sometimes a simple if else statement just makes the code easier to mantain
Well yeah but imagine you had to do that on most lines of the code? It would become very distracting imho. If you are in a team with people that have a lot experience and or will learn more anyway this is fine. But if you are in a team with not very good programmers which “will never learn” because they have other stuff to do, you should be careful when using code like this. Though I would prefer in the former of course.
Honestly, and I mean this sincerely, if you’re on a team where the nullable coalesce is going to be confusing after the first handful of times encountered… look for a new job. It doesn’t bode well for their ability to do their jobs.
This is like the guy at Walmart who needs hand holding each time they clean a machine, it’s a problem waiting to happen.
Imo it’s context dependent. Obligatory “I’m only a college student/intern” out of the way.
Whenever I’m working with a project with multiple languages (e.g. split frontend+backend, different connected services, etc.) operators like that can get blurry when they aren’t consistent between lancuages. Especially when one of those languages doesn’t have runtime type enforcement or has weird boolean behavior (looking at you JS/TS) which can lead to unintended behavior
If everyone on the project is only working with that language, then your point is probably pretty close to the mark.
Here’s a better one for ya. If the worst thing you unknowingly put in your mouth, chew, and swallow is a little cat butt. Then, you should consider yourself lucky.
I did pest control for several years. We always said that cats are the worst pest in the house. They stomp around in a box of their own feces and urine. Then they track that all over your counter tops and furniture. They sit on you counters and furniture with a bare butthole.
I mean let’s face it. If you have a cat you’ve more than like put something in your mouth that touched their b-hole even if indirectly.
He posted on Twitter about his magnificent car collection, and Greta Thunberg posted back that he was a giant manchild [ or words to that effect] Offended, he got into a flame war. Meanwhile, there’s an NGO called GRETA, which works against trafficking. Someone tells Andy that he’s on GRETA’s radar. Incensed, he posts a video that gives clues to his location. The police use that video to find and arrest him.
If he’d acted like the powerful leader he aspires to be, he would have ignored the posts. Instead, he took the bait and got caught, just like a little fish
The reality is, the police knew he was in Romania, and they knew that he owns property in Romania. When you fly into a country, the government knows. He was already under investigation and the arrest just coincidentally synchronized with the pizzabox photo.
It’s one of the lessons he teaches his students/acolytes; the person who speaks less in a meeting is the one in control. Too bad he couldn’t learn his own lesson.
Why is the wrong version always the one that is posted.
The (in my eyes) correct (and iirc original) version is:
Git commit
Git push
Get out*
*as someone pointed out (and I remember it as well, but thought I rembered it wrong and corrected it, shame on me in this context) the last point may be originally “git out”
I remember creating an alias for “git out” which worked like teamware or meecurial’s “out” (outgoing) command to show you what you would be pushing to a branch.
Fancy brioche buns, not normal burger buns. Brioche is typically the most expensive bread off the shelf.
Fancy veggie burgers, of course they are expensive lol, that’s fancy vegan stuff
Don’t pretend that is a Danish singular. That’s a huge fuckin Danish, that’s the equivalent of 4 Danishes easily lol
I hate when people buy fancy bespoke food and are like “why do my gluten free vegan free range burgers cost so much?”
If you want to be vegetarian/vegan, go buy normal vegis, don’t complain about your super fancy “takes a bunch of extra work and has very low demand” food being expensive.
You miss the point. Food should not even cost this much. Even crappier “normal” food costs too much yet is still unhealthy. And OP could have specific food needs, you don’t know. So why should he have to pay more for a basic need.
OP spent $19 to feed four people a veggie burger on a brioche bun, and a pretty good sized piece of cake in the shape of a Danish… Like half a square foot of the stuff.
While not cheap overall, each person is eating for less than $5. And they’re eating better than you could taking that $5 to any rte food store.
