Stop looking at those ‘inflation adjustors’ and look at what you could actually buy.

Average rent per month in Los Angeles in 1990 was under $600.00/month

Today it’s over $2,000.00

If he paid her five months rent today, it would be $10,000.00, not $7,000.00

Dagwood222 ,

That’s why I stick with real world examples.

For example, the minimum wage in 1960 was $1.00/hour. The cost of the average home was $11,000.00

Right after absolutely nothing happened at Tianinmen Square 06/04/1989 someone suggested that all Chinese students in the US be given Green Cards.

Guess who opposed that?

Dagwood222 ,

As with so many things, you can blame Ronald Reagan.

Prior to Reagan, there was a thing called "the Fairness Doctrine.’ A company could only own two local radio stations [AM and FM] and one VHF television station. If a station ran an editorial, they had to allow the opposition equal time for rebuttal. And half hour commercials like “The Transformers” and “GI Joe” were not allowed.

Dagwood222 ,

Back in 1960, the US minimum wage was $1.00/hour and the price of the average home was $11,000.00 In those days.

note =if you feel the need to say that houses are bigger today, or we have better technology, please add how inflation was the driver that made that stuff happen.

Dagwood222 ,

Wonderful. I can remember 2012, [when dinosaurs walked the Earth] and all election disputes could be covered by a retired school teacher with a clip board. Thank God we have armed military taking over!

Dagwood222 ,

Here’s what you’re ignoring.

A good executive has a staff that reminds him of these things. Even if it was a brief meeting, Trump should have been aware that he’d had a sit down with them before.

Either Trump was reminded and forgot, or he’s too incompetent to set up a basic system like this.

Study finds 1/4 of bosses hoped Return to Office would make staff quit (www.theregister.com)

HR software biz BambooHR surveyed more than 1,500 employees, a third of whom work in HR. The findings suggest the return to office movement has been a poorly-executed failure, but one particular figure stands out - a quarter of executives and a fifth of HR professionals hoped RTO mandates would result in staff leaving....

Get a different job.

For years I thought I just hated working. After I was injured at work and had some off time, I picked up a book called “Discover What You Are Best At” by Linda Gail. It helped me assess my strengths and pointed me to a job I actually enjoyed doing.

Dagwood222 ,

Get the book. When I got it I’d never considered the career I got. There are jobs out there you never heard of.

Dagwood222 ,

It doesn’t matter.

The point is that there are thousands of jobs out there that I never even considered.

Also, when I took the test I found that the job I was least suited for [clerk] was the one I’d always looked for because it seemed easy.

We don’t know ourselves.

Good luck.

You will see plenty of MAGoos flying both the Trump flag and the black POW MIA flag.

Trump once said that he ‘liked soldiers who didn’t get captured.’ He also called the doughboys of WW1 losers.

But Obama was the traitor because of the latte salute.

Edit = A lot of people think this movie was based on an Isaac Asimov novel. The truth is that Asimov did a novelization of a script written by Harry Kleiner, based on a story by Otto Klement and Jerome Bixby.

The novel let Asimov flex his muscles and come up with all kinds of ways the miniaturization process could have worked.

Yeah, I’ve seen some long term experiments out there. Decades of assiduous research, probing the depths of the problem. Vigorously and with attention to the smallest details. And copious notes.

Melania Trump has entered the chat…

It’s amazing that I know so much about Trump’s eating habits. Pizza with a knife and fork; two scoops of ice cream while the guests only get one; well done steaks.

He’s the dumpster fire that you can’t look away from.

He had a long history of going on David Letterman’s show. David routinely humiliated Donnie, but Donnie kept going back on because he’s addicted to displaying himself. I guess if you’ve spent over 50 years training yourself to be a public spectacle you get good at it.

This is the problem when we ‘win’ lawsuits like this.

The money doesn’t come out of the pockets of the police or the politicians who are doing wrong; the taxpayers foot the bill.

I’m saying not to sue, I’m saying we need to change the way people are held responsible.

Dagwood222 ,

To paraphrase Churchill, it’s the worst possible system, except for all the others,

MAGoo logic.

Life was better under Jim Crow and Martin Luther King was a national hero for standing up to the Jim Crow laws.

Dagwood222 ,

Remember that Star Trek where they go to the evil mirror universe and the baddies come to the Enterprise? The bad versions get caught because it’s hard for someone with no empathy to fake it.

Dagwood222 ,

This sucks for the general public. You’re always either going to be dealing with a] a disgruntled employee who knows he deserves a raise or b] an under trained new guy. You never get the one who knows the job really well.

Dagwood222 ,

Just remember. Minimum wage in 1960 was $1.00/hour and the price of a US home was about $11,000.00.

A high school graduate on their first job could live with their parents and move into their own home in about 7 years.

Dagwood222 ,

Think of it this way.

For decades, ‘middle class’ was defined as one income that could pay for a family of four. Up until the Nixon inflation of the 1970s anyone with a halfway decent job was ‘middle class.’ Back then $1 million was a giant fortune

Then Reagan came in with his tax cuts for the rich. By 1992, middle class was defined as two incomes and $1 million was what a rich guy paid for a party.

Edgar Allan Poe wrote that all you have to do is mimic the look on their faces. Soon you’ll find your mood changing.

I worked in Manhattan and had coworkers who lived in Pennsylvania. Two hours each way. A story I heard was that a bus company recruited drivers who would get up at 4am, pick up passengers, drive to the city, and then go to another job. 6 pm they get in the bush and drive home.

Dagwood222 ,

Before Hudson Yards went up that space was mostly empty. I’ve also seen lines of buses parked under the FDR downtown.

Dagwood222 ,

That works for pretty much anything.

Get up and do anything else for a while. School teaches us to sit at our desks and work on the problem. Stop acting like a sixth grader.

A lot of behaviors that would be advantageous in a pre-technical setting are troublesome today.

A guy who likes to get blackout drunk and fight is a nice thing to have when your whole army is about ten guys. The one who will sit and stare at nothing all day is a wonderful lookout. People who obsess about little things would know all the plants that are safe to eat.

Dagwood222 ,

The great thing is, that if someone knows the joke, you can use it in almost any situation.

“Yeah, I’m getting pizza for lunch.” “Because of the implication?”
