there’s one in DC that treats the beers like the stock market. there’s a ticker up on the wall and you can see the live price is coming up and down

Where are the good political songs? (piped.video)

I feel like there are lots of parallels between the eighties and now (recession/inflation, yuppies/inequality, skin-heads/fascists, hot-cold wars etc.) but there used to be protest music! Where is that stuff now? Music that’s intelligent and outraged - like we should be!...

Thermal_shocked ,

one of my favorite groups is Mischief Brew from Philly. Very folksy, anti-cop, anti everything government lol

boycott me

Old Tyme Memry

Farewell Goodfellows

Roll me through the gates of hell

Depending on which though, no matter how responsible you are you may not even be able to get a blood transfusion after an accident. So it’s not all up to you.

Thermal_shocked ,

Well duh but clearly some religions believe that you’re not allowed to sacrifice to help someone else. So it doesn’t matter if you’re responsible enough you may or may not be allowed to do things to help other people based on your religion.

Thermal_shocked ,

Convenience, the whole reason piracy took a backseat for a few years. Inconvenient? Hit the seas.

Thermal_shocked ,

Lazy for not wanting to have 6 different accounts and launchers? Nah. It’s easier to just get a pirated version than trying to remember which service you bought what on.

Thermal_shocked ,

I don’t always win, but I learn from the mistakes. Like watching football play footage lol

You can use multiple work accounts in the app, have some clients that have their clients give them accounts to communicate internally with them. Just have to keep switching.

Thermal_shocked ,

she may have been on the new one, i don’t remember.

Thermal_shocked ,

Just upgraded my truenas and plex to 8tb drives. 1600+ movies, 60+ TV series, 40,000 songs. I seed as much as I can, have uploaded over 5TB this month alone. Come get some.

Thermal_shocked , (edited )

I use OnTheSpot downloader to grab albums from spotify at 320kbps - github.com/casualsnek/onthespot

Use Soulseek (nicotine+) to grab more obscure stuff. Can get everything on there, just sometimes slower and not as reliable as a torrent.

I use these sites for movies, in order of convenience:

ytssss.jamsbase.com (basically just YTS)

www.magnetdl.com (search sucks, but if you get used to it, it has huge libraries of TV series)

en.torrentgalaxy-official.site

rargb.to

1337x.to/home/

psa.wf (PSA RIPS)

I don’t really download apps anymore, so malware really isn’t an issue, but make sure you’re using UBlockOrigin plugin and a VPN like TorGuard

Thermal_shocked ,

yeah, i’ve thought about it. but it’s cathartic to find music/movies, download and organize them, choose artwork in Plex, things like that. I’ve got them all organized in media monkey.

Thermal_shocked , (edited )

oh god, the difference between some of my old rips at 128 and 320 is damn near night and day. i though the song just sucked, but the quality was just shit. also found a track that got corrupt, but still played, but at 1/10th the speed, it was about 30 minutes long, but normally only 3 lol. just stretched the fuck out of it.

Thermal_shocked ,

I recently discovered the band Ween and the song Japanese Cowboy is so pleasing to hear.

Thermal_shocked ,

No shit. Was an entire house md episode dedicated to the patient not taking his meds when nurse left

Thermal_shocked ,

It was so broken when I tested it that if you dragged a folder two levels deep it would disappear. Had to roll back to get that folder out.

Thermal_shocked ,

Correct. This is very situational also. I’m salary, my boss is great, if I have to do work on the weekend, like a site visit, he usually venmos me $2-300 on the spot. If he asks me to do something outside normal hours, or maybe even outside our work scope, 99% of the time it’s a yes. We’re a pretty solid group, we scratch each other’s backs for the sake of the clients in most cases. It all evens out in the end.

Thermal_shocked ,

Nearly every single port adapter exists. People will not upgrade their stuff until absolutely necessary and will get adapters in the meantime.

Thermal_shocked ,

I have zero issues helping people, I love it. What I won’t do it help people with the same issue over and over because they won’t pay attention and refuse to learn. Nothing pisses me off faster than repeating myself over and over and having to keep resetting your password and setup your VPN because you keep going into the settings and fucking with it instead of just connecting like we did when I taught you how.

Currently dealing with a guy with 2 Mac’s, a mini and pro and everyday one of them isn’t working because he keeps going to the VPN and changing shit rather than clicking “connect” from the task menu. Jesus fuck it’s annoying.

Parents jobs. And TONS of ways to do it without punishing everyone and collecting PII.

Thermal_shocked ,

Not the states problem. Also, much bigger issues than naked ladies on computer.

Thermal_shocked ,

Lolwut? So if my parents didn’t do something for me, the state needs to pick us the slack? No. It’s porn man, not jihad.

PC died. Trying the legal options.

And fuck. I really miss plex. I’ve had Netflix and Hulu forever as family won’t let me cancel. Decided to sign up to Paramount + for some Trek. Twice in lower decks it didn’t save my watched episodes. Doesn’t mark episode as watched if you exit during the credits. And multiple playback issues....

Thermal_shocked ,

Don’t need a nas enclosure. Get old PC, load with drives, install truenas on a bootable USB. Once in, install Plex plugin, setup shares, and boom, it’s done. I’ve had the same setup for almost 15 years back when it was freenas, now running a 10 year old i7 with 4 8TB drives RAID 0 and mirrored. Performance is top, I share over 1500 movies and 50 series to friends and family, it has my photo backups, software storage, personal files. Can use other plugin, all web accessible (computer is in network closet, only has power and Ethernet connected).

I’d get a case with as many drive slots as possible in my next upgrade, but this is solid af and it’s all mine.

For streaming only, Nvidia shield pro with VPN app and stremio with torrentio settings. Nothing I cant stream if it’s a one off watch.

Don’t have to spend a fortune for a nice Plex server, drives will be the most expensive, but can be expanded when needed, can start with a 1-4TB drive and grow as needed and add RAID 1 later for redundancy. Can use SSD too.

Thermal_shocked ,

i tried the pass, not worth a monthly subscription in my opinion. you can access the library at app.plex.tv in any browser just fine.

Thermal_shocked ,

Hdd wont be obsolete for awhile. They’re the best media to store large libraries cost effectively. Until there are 10+TB SSDS with reasonable prices, many people with home storage systems won’t upgrade. Not shelling out $10k for SSDS, sorry.

Thermal_shocked ,

yes.

Thermal_shocked ,

Yeah, I had 4tbs for only about a year. upgraded this summer to 4 8TB.

Thermal_shocked ,

No, he’s a thin skinned mouth breather who can’t look shit up for himself.

Thermal_shocked ,

No he made a completely stupid and uninformed comment about guns and when he got corrected he got all pissy. He’s unable to do any research on his own and instead ask for evidence and when it’s presented he gets upset for being dense.

Thermal_shocked ,

Well if I was a thin skin cry baby and somebody called me out on it, well if the shoe fits…

Appeals court allows California law to go into effect, restricting concealed carry in public places (www.cnn.com)

A US appeals court Saturday paved the way for a California law banning the concealed carry of firearms in “sensitive places” to go into effect January 1, despite a federal judge’s ruling that it is “repugnant to the Second Amendment.”...

Thermal_shocked ,

Lol showing you’re armed makes you a target. And someone will take it from your hip. There’s videos of people grabbing the gun and just running, so no. You’re absolutely wrong here. A lot of idiots are up voting you too, which is sad.

Thermal_shocked ,

Are you being dense about this or just stupid all around? It’s not hard to Google.

Anything else?

Thermal_shocked ,

oh no, not that. i don’t care to speak to someone who can’t do a simple google search to find what they need. you’re completely useless, then try to put your insecurities onto others to do your work for you. i provided the evidence, now stfu about it.

YouTube: 5 ads the norm now?

For context I’m in the US. The last time I used YouTube without an ad blocker, there were 2 ads back to back, and way too frequently. I tried watching on my PlayStation tonight, and not only are they more frequent, they’ve increased in quantity by 150%. It’s also very common for the last ad to last 2 minutes to over an...

Thermal_shocked ,

Nope. DNS blocking will cover about 90% of ads, not YouTube or IMDb though, probably some others too. They’re served from same domain.

I made my kid watch Zoolander just to make the black lung joke when he coughed

Thermal_shocked ,

I’d check local places like offerup. can get business laptops for cheap when places refresh. there are a few people around me selling 3-4 year old dells with i5/i7, nvme, etc. take a Linux USB and install it on site before you buy to test. they’re more than enough specwise for daily use or testing. often sub $300

Thermal_shocked ,

so tired of people recommending thinkpads when there are much better options. the fact the control and alt key were swapped for years is enough to never get ibm or Lenovo.
