This is the curse of a small userbase. Lemmy doesn’t has a very big userbase and those are primarily the Foss loving Linux leftists, because they decided to actually invest time in this small communities. The normies are at other mainstream social media platforms like Reddit or Instagram.

Community and extended family are different things.
Community is a choice blood doesn’t specify. You can choose or find yourself lucky enough to live in a community that’s engaging. I live in a major US city. My particular block isn’t super engaging but I know, and am jealous of, a number of nearby blocks and neighborhoods that are incredibly supportive and engaging with each other - despite or in spite of the appearances or affiliations of the individuals.
Inversely, extended family may be more physically separated than in generations past. We’ve lost most connection with relatives in favor of the choice to live in an area that’s more advantageous to us - be it financially or spiritually or physically beneficial.
I’ve observed more instances of people establishing their own “extended family” through their communities. I’m not so sure there’s an inherent advantage of the extended family being made of blood or friendship.
Also, I’m not sure how you define “extended family”. I hang out with some of my first cousins all the time. Second cousins, not so much. Are aunts and uncles extended family - if not “nuclear family”? I see them too often, tbh.

Every time you apply to a new job, copy the job posting into a ChatGPT conversation, and have it edit your resume to a 1-2 page document that only includes the experience most relevant to the job posting, and to rewrite sentences to use the exact terminology from the job posting where appropriate.
Once you have the custom resume, use ChatGPT to generate a custom cover letter to include as well.
These 2 changes will cause your resume to get assigned a higher “relevance score” by the AI tool their HR or recruiting team uses to weed through the 400+ applications they receive, which means you’ll be at the top of the list of names that gets delivered to first human in the process (the recruiter).
You’ll actually start getting callbacks and phone screens at that point, which gives you a fighting chance. The rest is up to you.
There are paid services that’ll do this for you (like Teal), but you can do it yourself and with more control as long as you have access to ChatGPT. If you can generate a completely customized resume and cover letter in less than 2 minutes, you can pump out 10 high-quality applications in less than half an hour per day.
Edit: I see you’re getting a 40% response rate. You may be setting your sights too low if that remains consistent. If you’re applying for roles that are a solid step up form where you’re at, you would expect closer to a 10% response rate.
I like the custom-resume-per-job idea, but using AI to generate it is a really bad idea unless you very closely comb through it and edit and clean up things. At that point you may as well just create it yourself.
The AI isn’t “generating” it - it’s just whittling down from what you provide to it and swapping out synonyms to match the job description. Try it - you shouldn’t need to make any manual edits if the input data and prompt line up correctly.
What about the electric socket? I like Type F, but I hate how it doesn’t have replaceable fuse, like Type G. I also think 3-pin should be mandatory. And about electricity, 230V, 50Hz should be the standard.
Over here in India, we have type C, D and M, and they’re decent, I guess. From a safety perspective, it is kinda bad, give how I confused type C slot with type M. This way, I have accidentally bent the two-pin many-a-times.
Type I. The angled pins make it much more stable than F, and there’s heaps of options for cable exiting sideways, upwards, downwards, straight out, etc .
What I like about socket type I is that it has both 2 and 3-pin variants, which is a nice feature. And you’re right about how stable it is, given how the pins are angled.
However, from all the images I’ve seen online, it seems to me that those cables aren’t at the bottom or the top, but toward the center. I mean, if you had something like a sofa or a bed pushed towards the plus, that would cause egregious amount of damage to the plug. Now, I could be in the wrong here.
Also, the ground isn’t tall enough, as screen in type G, D or M, which could be a safety hazard. And the point about the accessible fuse, which is a plus in type G, apparently doesn’t seem to be in any other socket.
In support of type F socket, they’re socketed - as in, a significant part of the plug has to go in first. And this interaction enables the plugs to be grounded first, before any of the other pins come into contact. You’re getting both stability and ground connection at the same time.
This can actually be a bit of an annoyance, sometimes… If the socket is right next to the floor, or in a densely packed area, for example, it can make plugging difficult.
And if it does have a ground pin, it’s mandated that the ground be longer than the power pins, for exactly the reason you mentioned about G,D,M.
The recessed feature of F I do like, even if it makes the plugs physically larger than they need to be.
That’s actually nice that there’s a low-profile plug available. I could see a alternative type socket with recessed plug socket, sideways ground like the Schuko, and the angled pins.
Good choices. Fixed-rate fines are unfair. To someone living on minimum wage, a $500 fine can be devastating. To someone pulling down a huge salary, not so much. They’re essentially unequal punishments for the same violation.
Yup. And not just fines imo. For instance, a cop who rapes or blatantly assaults someone, especially on duty, should have their sentence at least doubled due to the power dynamics.
If the punishment for all of those is death, and one’s power is a multiplier in punishment, one must reasonably assume that everyone has the same level of power.
I like the Scandinavian system of fines for breaking the law. They’re scaled based on your annual income so a speeding ticket isn’t just a fee for the wealthy.

Sure, and while I think that’s a good idea, it’s not really the same thing. Even though a rich person is more likely to drive a more expensive vehicle, you can have wealthy people driving sensible cars (especially the really wealthy) and lower income idiots, I mean people, having saved up and taken out ridiculous loans to get their expensive dream car that they can’t afford. Confiscating those two vehicles would be the complete opposite of equality in terms of financial pain.
Qualified immunity for police officers. Prosecutors and judges basically get qualified immunity, too-- in that they can be caught engaging in all sorts of inappropriate and illegal activity without facing punishment because like police, it usually doesn’t even get to the extent of being charged.
