It is when you go to a hipster food truck that charges $15 not including tip.

Source: I go to a lot of food trucks.

His wife forced him to install security cameras in every room of his apartment and banned him from going anywhere after work. She knew his schedule and expected him home immediately after work ended.

This is so toxic. Not saying cheaters get what they deserve but if you can’t trust your husband, I think you have bigger problems than infidelity.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Woah! This is so inaccurate!

Where is the woke spice?

You also need to add some subtle LGBT hate in there as well as some overt racism.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

But this kind of thing is ripe for unintended consequences at best and flat out bad data at worst.

When I drive I put my phone in the center so I can see the map. If me and my passenger’s phones are in the center, who is marked as driving when I get into an accident?

From there, why stop at one phone? Let’s put several phones in the back seat, including mine. Hell, let’s have a burner phone that I use only for driving that has a throw away account. Or let’s go back to old fashioned maps and GPS devices while our phones are turned off. Meanwhile, at home, I’ve spun up a virtual device where it is very peacefully driving a route. Perfectly. Then I have another virtual device that is driving a different route on the other side of the world driving erratically.

These companies are forgetting that the data from phones are data from devices, not people. If you’re going to spy on me, I’m going to make you fucking earn it.

Hackers Target AI Users With Malicious Stable Diffusion Tool on Github to Protest 'Art Theft' (www.404media.co)

A group of hackers that says it believes “AI-generated artwork is detrimental to the creative industry and should be discouraged” is hacking people who are trying to use a popular interface for the AI image generation software Stable Diffusion with a malicious extension for the image generator interface shared on Github....

Imo, there are too many good artists and not enough of a market.

The problem with the market is that they don’t want to pay what artists want. For every one person who wants a bespoke painting is about 30 people who are okay with mediocre and probably couldn’t tell the difference between someone who spent weeks versus a few hours on a painting.

I’m not saying artists don’t deserve to get paid. There are just not enough people willing to pay what they want. Is AI stealing their jobs? Probably. But they weren’t getting those jobs in the first place.

A few years ago, I was looking for an art student who would be willing to paint a very simple beach painting for me. Nothing fancy and really I probably could have done it on my own. There was an art school nearby and I went to a showcase and asked around. For an 8x10 canvas, it was going to be $1k minimum.

That’s insane. I wasn’t asking for detail. Just something with a sky, ocean, and sand. I found something similar to what I was looking for at a yard sale for $5.

I was willing to pay up to $300 with the possibility of doing more commissions down the road.

During the pandemic, I ended up taking some painting classes and learned to do the simple painting on my own for the price of a good bottle of wine.

On the one hand I completely understand and agree with businesses that do this. CC fees take a huge chunk out of your bottom line.

On the other hand, I’m less likely to go there a second time unless I really, really, really like your business.

For my barber, I will gladly pay in cash.

There’s a convenience store that charged me the 3% at check out. I left everything on the counter and went the extra mile or so and went to a normal grocery store.

Apple is bringing RCS to the iPhone in iOS 18 | The new standard will replace SMS as the default communication protocol between Android and iOS devices (www.theverge.com)

The long-awaited day is here: Apple has announced that its Messages app will support RCS in iOS 18. The move comes after years of taunting, cajoling, and finally, some regulatory scrutiny from the EU....

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Honestly, it’d be a good retort from Apple if they ran a commercial that said, “We’ll support RCS once all your products do” and then show a screenshot of Google Voice.

Study finds 1/4 of bosses hoped Return to Office would make staff quit (www.theregister.com)

HR software biz BambooHR surveyed more than 1,500 employees, a third of whom work in HR. The findings suggest the return to office movement has been a poorly-executed failure, but one particular figure stands out - a quarter of executives and a fifth of HR professionals hoped RTO mandates would result in staff leaving....

The only reason I go in is for the free food. It’s pretty good. But I’d rather have my time commuting back.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Omg…I thought I was doing it wrong. I was trying to map ports on my router and it just wouldn’t do it properly.

Networking is not my strong suit so I assumed I was being an idiot and reverted back to IPv4.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

I absolutely hate how dependent we’ve gotten to IPv4. To the point that Amazon is charging almost $4 a month per IP. It used to be free. These assholes are buying IPv4 addresses so fast that they are literally driving up the price.

Is there a resource that you can recommend on learning IPv6 based on my knowledge on IPv4? A lot of resources I’ve seen are way over engineered for my feeble brain.

Like I know what IP addresses are and what port numbers are. I don’t understand the difference between how IPv6 addresses are assigned (both locally and generally speaking) and what makes it different from IPv4.

I know it’s not DHCP.

His episodes are often available on fmovies by Monday.

This was the main topic two weeks ago and it’s definitely on there.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

TIL Warner Brothers owns HBO.

Totally did not know that. I know that AT&T sold it but didn’t realize Warner Brothers bought it.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

I predict in a few months, they will put their API behind a paid tier.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

On the surface of only the quote. I agree.

If a felon was in the White House, I think we’d finally see some genuine prison reform, and if we’re lucky, for profit prisons being outlawed.

Can you imagine a Danny Trejo type in the White House? Someone who deeply cares that prison is reformative and not punishment?

But not Donny Felon. He’s just going to commit more crimes.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Same here. There has to be no network whatsoever. No wifi, no wired connection.

You can completely cut out any internet access to the device (via the router), and it will still cry like baby and say that you need to use a Microsoft account.

There is absolutely no reason why disabling this needs to require a special keystroke let alone command.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

When I was last looking for a fully remote job, a lot of companies gave you a “technology allowance” every few years where they give you money to buy a computer/laptop. You could buy whatever you wanted but you had that fixed allowance. The computer belonged to you and you connected to their virtual desktops for work.

Honestly, I see more companies going in this direction. My work laptop has an i7 and 16GB of RAM. All I do is use Chrome.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

I always felt that this is where cloud computing should be. If you’re not building all the time, then 32GB is overkill.

I know most editing and rendering of TV shows happen on someone’s computer and not in the cloud but wouldn’t it be more efficient to push the work to the cloud where you can create instances with a ton of RAM?

I have to believe this is a thing. If it isn’t, someone should take my idea and then give me a slice.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Oooh… I’d love a YouTube integration with jellyfin.

Tell me more.

I’d love the features of a podcast app but for YouTube creators I follow.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Sounds like the way around this is to make swap space take up the drive up to 24 GB. Then trim the swap space as you need it.

I know it says “to enable” but let’s be real here. It’s going to be a placebo switch.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

If it’s anything like the “sign into your Microsoft account to continue” bullshit, there will be no cancel button. You’ll need to cast an archaic spell where you summon a spirit from the Netherworld, who then just gives you a 60 minute lecture on enshitification and why you should install Arch.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Are you the same guy from the warlizard gaming forums?

CosmicTurtle0 ,

I’ve been running Ubuntu desktop for years. YEARS and recently switched to Linux Mint. It’s very polished.

My laptop is the last holdout.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Jesus fucking Christ. This might be enough for me to actually attempt Linux on my laptop. My main reason for not doing so is because I’ve done Linux on a laptop before and it went horribly.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

The problem isn’t necessarily whether it will work on not. I’m fairly certain it will work 90-95% of the time. And that might be enough. But it’s that last 10% where I might need to do something right now and it will only work in Windows and will only work on bare metal.

I hit that use case maybe once a year. Last year I was helping someone read an old thumb drive they had with some important pictures on it. It was formatted with some old version of NTFS and wouldn’t mount on my linux desktop. It opened completely fine in Windows…which also gave me a virus.

Thanks a lot Kevin.

I sort of want to see Trump do a speed run through the steps.

Trillion dollar company Apple is right and can do no wrong.

It’s all those other people who need to do better.

The initial sentence didn’t surprise me but the second one did.

Boeing Will Launch Starliner With Helium Leak (www.extremetech.com)

Boeing and NASA are moving ahead with the upcoming Starliner demonstration launch despite an active helium leak. The launch is now on the books for Saturday, June 1, at 12:25 p.m. EDT. If all goes as planned, Starliner will rendezvous with the International Space Station the following day and return to Earth on June 10. If not,...

The way that the NASA program worked was that failure was expected and redundancies were added where they could. NASA program engineers knew that any failure could be a PR nightmare and would result in their funding being cut.

Their margin for error was small but because error-handling was built into the system.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

The philosophy still exists today at NASA proper.

Blue Origin and SpaceX don’t need to have that philosophy. Because their owners are having a dick measuring contest and have literal billions to literally burn.

The budget constraints on NASA during the Apollo missions made success a requirement. They couldn’t afford to waste money or even look like they are wasting money. Even early tests where NASA rockets were burning and exploding they had to justify to Congress that they were learning.

It helped that the “red scare” kept the public interested in space exploration because it was about beating the Soviet Union.

But when Blue Origin and SpaceX have to answer to just a billionaire, they can get away with failure after failure. It’s probably cheaper for them.

Iirc cases where the central complaint is AI, ML, or other black box technology, the company in question was never held responsible because “We don’t know how it works”. The AI surge we’re seeing now is likely a consequence of those decisions and the crypto crash.

Trump supporters try to doxx jurors and post violent threats after his conviction (t.co)

CosmicTurtle0 ,

We really need better enforcement of laws on threatening civil servants.

These jurors did a job that I might even struggle to take due to the likelihood of these assholes might fuck my life up. Imo, they should be given at least a year of Secret Service or US Marshall protection.

I personally don’t trust the local PD to protect them.

I’m 100% torrents if I need it. Fmovies or other sites seem to have the majority of what I want to watch.

Is there a guide on how to use usenet? What does it offer that torrents does not? Is it nitch stuff?

CosmicTurtle0 ,

At that point, might be better to hand-file your return. In many of these programs they offer you the ability to print and mail your return.

Your refund takes longer of course.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

The problem is that given all of the data breaches, anyone can use your social security number, address, etc. and file a return on your behalf.

In theory, that’s what ID.me is preventing.

But if your wallet gets stolen, good luck.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

I swear whenever I see sed/awk commands, it looks like I’m about to summon the demon beast.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

I am pretty okay with regex. Enough that I can do what I want.

sed/awk I’ve used on occasion, usually sed to change something in a pipeline.

I still feel like I’m casting a demon.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

I sort of want every company imaginable to be marked as “extremely woke”. Get the alt right out of the marketplace. Let them create secondary and underground stores.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

That’s the thing I don’t get. These “strongmen” are fucking cry babies.

Like the media darling Kyle Rittenhouse. Fucking cries while he’s on the stand.

Beer pong Brett Kavanaugh fucking crying on national TV from questioning.

Trump, literally, any day every day about how he’s some sort of victim.

How the alt right sees these men as the paragons of strength and leadership is beyond me.

CosmicTurtle0 ,

Though, TBF, what better jury of your peers than someone who also commits crimes?

CosmicTurtle0 ,

The only thing a drag show with guns would do is have conservatives frothing at the mouth saying that only Christian white men can be trusted with guns and laws would soon follow.

You don’t see gun manufacturers participating in Pride month.

They know their customers.
