I remember in my childhood in the 90s reading it as a possibility. So it was already on people’s radar. And as far as I know in the book Jurassic Park they do hqve feathers. Haven’t watched the newer movies, but I heard that in Jurassic World it was explained by the frog DNA that they didn’t have feathers.

I think every touch up besides color correction and cropping should be labeled as “photoshopped”. And any usage of AI should be labeled as “Made with AI” because it cannot show which parts are real and which are not.

Besides, this is totally a skill issue. Removing this metadata is trivial.

Tomb Raider 2013. I specifically bought it when it got Linux support. The difference between the Linux and the Windows version are night and day. So much better graphics and performance with Proton.

And funnily enough they made Bedrock for every device that’s not a PC.

The port was done by another developer, Feral. As far as I know they used a tool to port the Direct3D stuff to OpenGL. But nowadays DXVK does the job much better.

But by now the support contract has ran out. So when the Windows version improved the Linux version just stagnated.

Depends on the age of the baby. But as soon as they do eat meat they generally sleep longer. I guess meat is more filling.

Teenagers with good parents do. I think any parent would be happy if their children and their friends liked fruits so much that they would need a fruit bowl in their bedroom.

No matter what I play I always get pulled back to Diablo 2. Not even for the grind in the endgame. Just playing the normal game from Normal to Hell.

With newer games I always find myself overwhelmed with a screen full of indistinguishable enemies in later levels until I lose interest.

Try YouTube. I’ve been able to find tons of obscure movies on YouTube, blissfully unperturbed by any DMCA takedowns.

Put them into a playlist or download and use ffmpeg or possibly Handbrake (not sure if that can stitch together videos).

Unfortunately it has been proven that putting a stupid human face into the thumbnail makes your audience much bigger. It would be nice if YouTube had a “show stupid face” option.

Maybe a waitress managing her workload with lightly roasting the customers. With an experienced roastie that’s actually funny and entertaining.

One of my favourite restaurants closed down over Covid. It had an awesome roastie from Berlin. I actually celebrated my wedding there. I miss him.

Moonlight isn't working

Hi I got the following problem. I successfully created a Tailscale network and a user from outside the network can login and connect to my network. That part works properly. We use a Fedora Linux PC as a host (Sunshine) and Moonlight Client on a Windows 10 PC. After tinkering for hours we can now see each other but I get the...

Does it work inside the LAN without Tailscale?

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

The problem should be somewhere with Sunshine. Look at the logs. Maybe a firewall is on the server.

Yeah, I couldn’t even restrict it if I wanted to.

Might that work better with a degoogled OS?

bjoern_tantau ,

Visually maybe but not gameplay wise. They are very much Metroidvanias (that genre isn’t called that by chance) where you collect gear to open up the maps more and more and shoot aliens on the way.

I really loved Prime 3 on the Wii. One of the few shooters that played well on there. I got the trilogy when that was ported but got stuck somewhere in the first game. Was too proud to look up a walkthrough.

Actually 60 Hz was too low to comfortably use a CRT. I think it started to work well at 75 Hz, better 80 or 85. Don’t know if I ever had a 90 Hz one, especially at a resolution above 1280x960. But if you valued your eyes you never went down to 60.

No idea why 60 Hz on an LCD works better, though.

First rule at our LAN parties: You carry your own monitor.

We’d help each other out with carrying equipment and snacks and setting everything up. But that big ass bulky CRT, carry it yourself!

Do you mean Electron apps? I didn’t even know you could force them to use Wayland.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

Bad is relative. But I have some problems with scaling on a HiDPI display with some Electron apps. I think that might be solved if they were Wayland native.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

Is this when the screen is locked or when you’re logged out? Those are two different things and I suspect it’s the latter. That’s probably sddm and I suspect it can be fixed by using Wayland with it. Should be some option in /etc/sddm.conf or so.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

Uh, all that button does is write your configuration to the sddm config. Of course you can also do that manually.

Maybe use a graphical file manager?

Or move the folder to /tmp or so.

Is "food" a social construct?

Hear me out. There’s nothing innate to an object that makes it “food”. It’s an attribute we give to certain things that meet certain qualities, i.e. being digestible, nutritious, perhaps tasty or satisfying in some way, etc. We could really ingest just about anything, but we call the stuff that’s edible “food”....

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

That’s actually hurt by this because it uses timestamps supplied by users to work. But now they are off because the ads are of variable length. We can just hope that YouTube keeps the ability to link to a specific timestamp because then it has to calculate the difference and that can be used by Sponsorblock and adblockers alike.

That poor AI.

Thinkpad recs?

I like used Thinkpads. I bought a T430s off eBay and used it for several years. Recently I got a T570 from work. It had a screen issue, so I bought a new screen. That didn’t fix it so I bought a new mobo, but it has a loose drive connector so won’t boot. Just now I killed it for good by putting an nvme in a sata slot lol....

The nVidia GPUs on the Tx80 line suck. They throttle much too early and too aggressively bringing them down so much they can’t even handle Quake 3. And because they’re on the same heatpipe as the CPU that can happen very quickly.

I have never been able to properly use the GPU in my T580 although it should be able to at least handle Tomb Raider 2013 or Doom 2016.

bjoern_tantau ,
@bjoern_tantau@swg-empire.de avatar

Ironically fixing the CPU throttling makes the GPU problem worse. For a long time throttled didn’t support the 80’s and back then I could at least play Tomb Raider when playing off of battery.
