One of the reasons I DO think babies are cute is that I can walk away when they start making noise, smelling bad, or being generally unpleasant. They’re cute because they’re not my problem!

Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins is the most racist-sounding thing I’ve ever heard that isn’t actually racist.

@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

A classic. Why didn’t I remember that?

That person who makes the peanut analogy needs a slap in the head.

Why not serve fried chicken on Juneteenth? How is it different from serving corned beef on St. Patrick’s day? (old.lemmy.world)

Disclaimer: I am not trolling, I am an autistic person who doesn’t understand so many social nuances. Also I am from New Hampshire (97% white), so I just don’t have any close African-American friends that I am willing to risk asking such a loaded question.

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

If I recall correctly, some states even had laws against black people raising animals like cows (and maybe pigs too?), so chickens were their only option.

"I do shoot myself in the foot from time to time, but at least you know it is genuine, not from the PR department," he admitted.

A basic statement of human fallibility is an absolute revelation to this guy. I can’t WAIT for him to just shut up and go away.

Yeah, I know, but a man can dream.

That picture of Mary Morrissey looks like it was taken decades ago.

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

Yeah - the image quality was what got my attention first. It looks like a scan of an old photo. It’s especially obvious when right next to a more recent image.

Chaplin later said that he wouldn’t have made light of Hitler if he had known at the time how horrific the situation truly was.

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

Yeah, the genocide wasn’t widespread public knowledge yet. As far as most Americans knew at the time, Hitler was just another power-hungry jackass ripe for parody.

Just be a hypocrite, hide hate behind a thin veneer of love, and you can sell any MAGA dipshit the Brooklyn bridge.

Let’s make his claims a reality. Fuck this guy.

Although this wasn’t the worst, it most certainly could have been, and always comes to mind when questions like this are brought up.

I was on a job site. A half dozen houses were being built simultaneously. I walked too close behind an excavator, which abruptly turned. I nearly got hit in the head by the back end of that thing - which is all ballast and has tremendous mass. I almost got myself sent to the emergency room, and it would have been 100% my fault.

At the moment, I was just glad that none of the guys on my crew saw me pull such a rookie move. I didn’t think about it seriously until I got home that day. That excavator would’ve shattered my cheap plastic construction helmet like it was an eggshell. I could have died.

I work retail. Contrary to popular belief, I DO NOT always know whether a particular item is in stock or not, unless I consult the computer. I do not have the exact price of every item committed to memory. I don’t even know the expiration date of every single coupon. Some customers think I suck at my job, but I haven’t gotten any complaints from the people who pay me, so…

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

It takes a while to learn, but now I’m glad I know where some of the weird, obscure items are that people rarely ask for. It’s nice not to have to scour the store thinking “I just KNOW I’ve seen it around here somewhere…”

What does the world think of India?

I am an Indian and I have noticed that Indians are way too proud of their country for some reason and at the same time lack any civic sense towards it, they are extremely loud and extremely proud. We feel like the world revolves around India and our culture is superior to that of others. Also, a considerable chunk of the...

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

I hope that India doesn’t make the same mistakes my county (America) made, such as trying to be a major international player while ignoring the people in need at home. They’re already going that way, but there’s time to change course.

Also, I’d like them to fix their issues with Pakistan. That border was drawn by the British specifically to cause problems, and falling into that trap is letting the previous colonizers win.

They’re willing to take this risk for less than $4? What kind of miserable salary are these military employees being paid?

magnetosphere ,
@magnetosphere@fedia.io avatar

I was going to make some snarky comment, but I was completely distracted by the guy in the brick-patterned suit and matching tie. WTF? Maybe he was going for some kind of wall reference? Where did he even get that abomination?

Our country is full of idiots.

Pentagon ran secret anti-vax campaign to undermine China during pandemic (www.reuters.com)

The U.S. military launched a clandestine program amid the COVID crisis to discredit China’s Sinovac inoculation – payback for Beijing’s efforts to blame Washington for the pandemic. One target: the Filipino public. Health experts say the gambit was indefensible and put innocent lives at risk....

Goddammit. Just to be clear, Pentagon: this is a stunt Cobra Commander would pull in a G.I. Joe cartoon, not something real people actually do.

This is still going on? Lake, you are the second worst loser ever.

My response: fuck you, sue me. I will drag out the lawsuit and make it as expensive as possible to litigate. Even if you win, it will be a net loss. Have fun!

I honestly don’t know. I’ve never been involved in a civil suit. I’d want to let Musk know what he was in for, though.

I'm actually more scared of the sodium content on those things.

Upvote for this. I started throwing the “flavor packet” away, and adding my own spices and seasoning, to avoid the ridiculous amount of sodium.

As long as raw milk doesn’t give you any contagious diseases that can be passed on to sane, responsible people, I’m fine with this.

It highlighted remarks from the other leaving judges who said they still believed in the independence of the courts.

Okay, but where were they when they made those “everything is fine” statements? If they (or their loved ones) were still in HK’s/China’s jurisdiction, those quotes don’t mean much.

I can understand if older people are confused by trans issues. That seems fair. I mean, just a few decades ago, people hardly even mentioned them unless they were making a joke.

When it comes to hate, though, I’m with you. At the end of the day, these are still PEOPLE we’re talking about. If they’re doing something you don’t approve of, then just don’t do it yourself. It doesn’t get any easier than that. No hatred required.
