their options are fairly limited. Ham/cheeseburger, chicken burger, fish sandwich, or nuggets is pretty much your array of options

You must not have been to a McDonald’s in a while. Do you want that chicken sandwich grilled or crispy? Spicy? Are we talking the basic value sammich you can wolf down before you leave the parking lot, or the bigger one that comes in a cardboard box? The one with bacon and ranch, or one of the others? Did you want a combo meal? Lettuce is stupid filler on a sandwich, do you want to skip that?

Teeeechnically that could mean Russia is threatening them over it, in which case they are threatened by Russia. But that’s just me being a pedantic pain in the ass before bed.

spongebue ,

Sounds like a “spectacular” failure to me

spongebue ,

Ironically, you could use the meme template to say that somehow

Some company heads hoped return-to-office mandates would make people quit, survey says (arstechnica.com)

Nearly two in five (37 percent) managers, directors, and executives believe their organization enacted layoffs in the last year because fewer employees than they expected quit during their RTO. And their beliefs are well-founded: One in four (25 percent) VP and C-suite executives and one in five (18 percent) HR pros admit they...

spongebue ,

It’s not, but it’s a common phrase and brings up a fair point even if the wrong way.

spongebue ,

It just died because the battery manufacturer screwed it up

That’s debatable. They are bringing it back, and it will have the newer Ultium battery, but whether the battery recall is what did it is hard to say. They did run another model year after that happened, though I would’ve expected a little more after the refresh from the 2022MY.

On the other hand, the Bolt platform was released in 2016. A lot has changed since then, particularly with charging. 55kW is laughable compared to pretty much everything else on the market these days, and they may need to go back to the drawing board to update it.

I believe you typically get the money withheld, and if when you file are determined not to have any tax liability, you get a refund between what you paid and what you owe. That’s just like anyone else, but that second number happens to be zero. I swear there’s an option in a W4 that you had/expect to have your tax liability be zero as well, but of course if you turn out to be wrong you’re in for a world of hurt

English pronunciation can be difficult, though through tough thorough thought, it can generally be figured out

spongebue ,

In the US, it’s made by Hershey. At least the bigger complaint about that company is chocolate that’s not nearly as good as opposed to points at everything

spongebue ,

On that note, wasn’t Whose Line is it Anyway originally British? Because Drew Carey’s was peak!

spongebue ,

There’s a certain chemistry between Ryan, Colin, and Drew that just cannot be replicated

spongebue ,

So? If your invention depends on illegal plagiarism to exist, maybe it shouldn’t. It’s not the law’s fault that LLMs depend on other people’s work to function, nor was that its specific target when it was written

spongebue ,

The comment I was replying to basically said it has to be noncompliant (illegal) for the whole thing to work, as if that justified it. If a trial or whatever finds it’s not illegal, so be it, but I’d still have some moral issues about basically everything anyone ever does or has done turning into AI food

spongebue ,

Java was giving a no such method exception at runtime, but it compiled fine. Granted, that method was recently added to the class, but it was pretty simple and again, you’d expect the compiler to detect things like that.

Turns out the code I inherited from a not-great team had that class in two different places. Maven replaced the one I worked on with the untouched copy, which went into the build.

spongebue ,

“Huh, I hadn’t really considered this [kinda racist when you think about it] view, but it’s actually pretty popular [by bots] so maybe there’s something to this!”

spongebue ,

“we” includes the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. I’d love to see it, but…

spongebue ,

Like Merrick Garland? Basically the only guy who could have maybe made it through a confirmation hearing with a Republican-controlled Congress when Obama was in office? Someone who couldn’t really be attacked on the merits, making it pretty obvious that McConnell’s shenanigans were 100% political? Or are Sotomayor, Kagan, and Jackson moderates?

constitution.congress.gov/…/ALDE_00013559/

In 1869, under a new presidential administration, Congress expanded the Court to include nine Justices.11 The 1869 legislation was the last time Congress changed the size of the Supreme Court.

That was how we went up to nine justices. I assume “Congress” to mean both houses, otherwise they presumably would’ve said which house. But admittedly I haven’t dug into the logistics of that particular action

spongebue ,

Honestly, this shit should have been class action lawsuits under “Constructive Dismissal.”

Constructive dismissal is not illegal or anything. All it means is that “yeah, you didn’t officially get dismissed but with the other things they did you may as well have been. Here’s your $200 unemployment check for the month”

spongebue ,

They already did that about 30 years ago…

Americans are choking on surging fast-food prices. "I can't justify the expense," one customer says (www.cbsnews.com)

Kevin Roberts remembers when he could get a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink from Five Guys for $10. But that was years ago. When the Virginia high school teacher recently visited the fast-food chain, the food alone without a beverage cost double that amount....

spongebue ,

Unfortunately, so many local burger joints have a “flagship” burger featuring a Sysco patty, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion for $17, sides extra.

spongebue ,

I am honored to have inspired content like this!

spongebue ,

I’m not sure this is an enshitification thing. That should have a degree of hostility with users. This is plain ol’ low-quality product (made easy)

spongebue ,

That just means it’s shitty and common (due to its ease) though. Please don’t let enshitification lose its meaning like the word “literally” did - we’ve got a good thing going there.

spongebue ,

They used a lot of words to say that it’s recently rained in Barcelona and the tourist season is beginning. Then they said tourists use more water than residents, with absolutely no indication of how that may be the case.

Then the article just… Stopped.

spongebue ,

Did you perhaps just read the small paragraph that gets added to the post on lemmy?

To be honest, yeah. I’m used to that having full articles to save me from the ad infestations of so many news sites out there that I didn’t bother clicking into it. Plus it was a bit early for me when I was giving my daughter an overnight bottle so I was in a state of foggy annoyance.

spongebue ,

and can’t even get you halfway across the state on a single charge

This is the part that needs to be rethought. Depending on speed and stuff, I can go about 200 miles on a charge. Want to go farther? Fine! DC fast charging is, in fact, fast. Plug in, take a pee break, stretch for a minute, and get a bite to eat. In 20 minutes, you can get a lot of charge in most cars (granted, my Chevy Bolt needs a little more time but that battery technology is relatively obsolete)

We already stop on the road for other reasons. It’s not hard to combine stops, and it will only get easier as chargers get built up. Stop pretending we need to drive 500 miles without stopping, that’s dangerous anyway.

spongebue ,

Or just… Not have 500000 partners in the first place

spongebue ,

What kind of electric mileage do you get? My Bolt gets about 3.5 miles per kilowatt hour, and my electricity costs $0.12 per kWh. I figure a car like that would get about 30MPG if it were an ICE vehicle. To go 30 miles would take about 8.5 kWh, which would cost about a dollar. Yes, your electricity is 4x the price (ouch!) but 8x the gas equivalent?

spongebue ,

A friend was telling me he pays that much in Hawaii, but you’d probably expect as much on an island like that

spongebue ,

Someone took my stainless steal, but at least they cleaned up after themselves

spongebue ,

Then there wouldn’t be as many CEOs or C-suite executives 😢

spongebue ,

Speech to text was a terrible invention

spongebue ,

Cargo shorts were in style at the time, so there’s that

spongebue ,

I think it’s happening more and more in the tech industry - one theory I heard was that rising interest rates meant companies couldn’t just take out loans that were practically free money, so they’re cracking down on monetizing every nook and cranny.

Reddit was no exception. Many of us left this thing we once loved because of it, and came here. So on top of industry trends, there’s a huge selection bias among us Lemmings.

spongebue ,

I think the question comes from

Did I miss the part of the article that described an active shooter?

All I read was there were shots[…]

Where else would the shots have come from if not a shooter? The threat was later neutralized (whatever that may mean) but yes, there was a shooter at some point if there were gunshots.

spongebue ,

It’s like a fatal car accident. You know it happens, but almost always in the news about another place.

spongebue ,

That, or a developer buys a plot of land, makes a neighborhood with some amenities, and then it’s damn near impossible to kill because of those amenities. My HOA is pretty lightweight - half our budget pays the trash bill. But we do have a few plots of land that belong to the association, don’t even have any structures on them, and if the HOA were to dissolve someone would need to assume responsibility for those spots. I can only imagine what it would be like if we had a pool.

spongebue ,

no significant competition? Is that a joke?

For the type of service they are (hosting random one-off videos and series that anyone can load and optionally kicking back a portion to the content creators) - who are they competing against? If you go on the street and ask random people to name 3 streaming services that do that, you’ll likely get YouTube, “ummm”, and “I dunno”

spongebue ,

So should it not have been done at all because it wasn’t enough for you?

Team Trump Is Ready to Lose the Supreme Court Immunity Case. They're Celebrating (www.rollingstone.com)

Donald Trump‘s inner circle doesn’t expect the Supreme Court to go along with his extreme arguments about executive power in the immunity case before the justices. But what the high court does now is almost beside the point: Trump already won....

spongebue ,

Unfortunately my money is on Elise Stefanik. Maybe not all of it, but like… Lunch.

spongebue ,

“Hello, we are ClickClock, a totally different (😉😉😉) social media company hoping to fill the void of that one social media company that recently went under. As a matter of fact, with their recent layoffs we were even able to hire much of their talent and stuff. But totally different!”

That’s about how trivial it would be to get around this if the legislation was too specific

spongebue ,

Ah yeah. I deserve that but to be fair the OP story (not the comment I replied to) is about what’s happening in the US!

spongebue ,

Zero arguments there!
