I do think that keeping guns out of easy, legal, access of active drug abusers is appropriate. But as you say, without a conviction, the scope of those restrictions should be narrow and appeal-able.

Considering that the form 4473 that you have to sign to purchase a firearm makes no mention of alcohol, I think this is hypocritical, at best. What’s the difference between alcoholics owning a firearm, and heroin addicts owning a firearm? All I know is that I would be way less worried about the junkie gun owner than a raging alcoholic gun owner.

Its a dumb law, that was probably spawned from racism. Nobody should have their gun rights removed if they did not do or threaten anything violent.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

That’s fair and reasonable. I just think that the fact that alcohol use is so common, it makes it very unfair to pick on other drug users as if they are somehow worse or more prone to violence than alcoholics are.

I don’t think drug use by itself should be enough to take away your gun rights, personally. I do believe mental health reasons are acceptable, though, and if the drug a person is using is making them mentally unstable, then that should be the main reason their gun rights are removed.

This repo should have what you need if you are having trouble finding them.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

My apologies, that repo most definitely used to have what you are looking for. I tried out LSD dream emulator off of their awhile back and they also used to have N64 Roms. I should’ve checked.

Vimms Lair is getting removal notices from Nintendo etc. We need someone to help make a rom pack archive can you help? (slrpnk.net)

Vimms lair is starting to remove many roms that are being requested to be removed by Nintendo etc. soon many original roms, hacks, and translations will be lost forever. Can any of you help make archive torrents of roms from vimms lair and cdromance? They have hacks and translations that dont exist elsewhere and will probably be...

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Thats some proper parenting right there. It sounds like you are raising an upstanding citizen.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Thanks for pointing this out. To some people, advocates for things like socialized healthcare are ‘tankies’. Its hard to tell what people mean anymore by it, and one persons tankie might be another’s centrist at this point.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

It sounds like you are a Democratic Socialist from this tidbit.

I kind of feel the same way. I think the economic theory behind communism/socialism sounds much more beneficial towards our progress as a species and towards a more sustainable existence. I just don’t agree with the authoritarian methods of implementation. I think that if socialism is going to succeed, it will need to come about in a gradual democratic way.

Lemmy.ml tankie censorship problem

I feel like we need to talk about Lemmy’s massive tankie censorship problem. A lot of popular lemmy communities are hosted on lemmy.ml. It’s been well known for a while that the admins/mods of that instance have, let’s say, rather extremist and onesided political views. In short, they’re what’s colloquially referred to...

TopRamenBinLaden ,

.ml top level domains are very cheap, as well, so I think it was a happy coincidence for them to choose the .ml TLD.

They most definitely didn’t mind that .ml can stand for Marxist-Leninism, but I don’t think that was the only reason it was chosen.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

I was going to say, isn’t the Kama Sutra a Hindu text? We have a bunch of sex positions that may have been lost to time if it weren’t for the Hindu religion.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

I can’t imagine living in a town without real Mexican food. We have taco trucks and authentic fast food style Mexican spots where I’m at too.

Nothing that Taco Bell has ever made comes close to the quality of a random shady looking taco truck.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Believe it or not, some people make less money than others.

If you were in a position with only 20 dollars in your pocket and had to feed a family of 4 you would be eternally grateful for cheap food. Consider yourself lucky that you have never faced hardship like that in your life.

I think your comment is pretty ignorant and/or disrespectful.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

I will admit that assuming you have never faced hardship like that is not fair. Maybe you have, and maybe you handled it differently.

Still, its disrespectful to make someone feel bad for feeding their family Taco Bell. Maybe they didn’t have time or the knowledge to cook food for that cheap.

Taco Bell is as good an option as any other cheap fast food place. None of them are healthy or anything, and that’s not the point. The point is that they are cheap and quick, and sometimes that’s what people need. Nobody should feel bad about it, including yourself.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

It’s pretty obviously a dumb joke.

Even if it was completely serious, it just becomes a dumb statement. Its just showing how everything can be reworded to be presented as a binary choice like this. It doesn’t actually say anything bad about people for identifying any sort of way.

For example, there are a lot of species birds, but they can all be described by the binary choices of: Is Crow, or Not Crow. Still, its very obvious to anyone with a brain that it’s not the most helpful way to classify things.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

The sweating and shaking is the parts I haven’t heard before, but as someone who has smoked a lot of weed and quit a few times, the problems with sleeping were definitely a thing for me. I’ve also worked in the industry for a while and have heard restlessness affecting other people who quit.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

A lot of ant-renewable sentiment.

I’m just imagining they just leave sugary drinks and snacks laying out in the open.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

This is the funniest thing I have read all year. Still chortling at the thought. Thank you.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

I agree that the girl who is singing is decent, but idk how you could say the song ‘slaps’. It sounds like a kids bop remake of a reggae song or something.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Microdosing LSD is a common thing nowadays in the tech world. It definitely increases your creativity and mental energy, so it makes sense. Your friend was probably ahead of the curve. I’m not sure if the idea was as popular back then.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

To be fair, if they really, honestly, stick to one or two drinks, they should be under the legal limit in most places in the US. This depends on their weight and the strength of the drinks, too, but anyone over 120 pounds is normally still under the limit after 2 average strength beers.

The problem is that it’s easy and tempting to overdo it, but as long as they have self discipline to not ever drink too much, it can be fine.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

From early contact in Central America between Spanish explorers and Aztec folk, local spicy peppers — primarily the jalapeño type — were noted as “chiles”. Other similar fruits were also tagged as “chiles” — a term which had the indigenous sense “hot-to-the-taste.”

‘Chile’ has been used for a lot longer than ‘chili’. If anyone is spelling it wrong, it is you, not them.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

I mean, Waymo should definitely be held accountable and take responsibility for this accident, as it is something most human drivers would easily drive around. Them trying to blame it on other things is bullshit.

That being said, Waymos’ driverless cars are already much safer than the average human driver.

The alpha testing on public roads is a bit iffy, but idk how well they would be able to really QA test in a closed environment. Personally, I’m more concerned with sharing the road with many terrible human drivers that we already are forced to do. The faster we can get the driverless thing going, the better off we will be.

You can already do this with some N64 emulators with built in netplay like, Project64KSE. There is a small community dedicated to it with a website here.

Smash Bros Melee is much more popular to play online nowadays, and there is a great update for online play called Project Slippi. It works with the dolphin GameCube emulator and makes it very quick and easy to find games against similar skill level players. It also adds rollback netcode, stats, and other QOL features.

If Nintendo, themselves, put out an online Smash Melee remake, it would never be as close to good as Project Slippi already is.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Slippi, in particular, has rollback netcode built on top of the emulator. It is way less laggy than Smash Ultimate and most other fighting games on the market, for that matter.

It is used for high level tournament play by players who have played the game in person since its release, with no complaints. It’s really impressive how smooth it is.

I think you are right about general netplay. Some emulators are better about it than others, and fighting games are of the type where the lag differences will be especially noticeable.

I did well in data structures and algorithms in uni, but I have never had those topics come up in my 4 years of being a software developer. I’m in web development, FWIW.

So you don’t really have to know that stuff, depending on what kind of software engineering that you get into.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

People shoot up drugs on the street, too. Should we just get rid of public streets while we’re at it?

Personally, I would rather have drug users go to a more private spot(like a public bathroom stall), than on the street in broad daylight, to use their drugs.

Hamas doesn’t really do stonings, so you appear to be correct. It looks like just about every execution committed by Hamas involved a firing squad, most often performed in public.

Hamas does torture and execute people for suspicion of being gay, though, even their own commanders.

Free Palestine. Fuck the IDF and Hamas.

Maybe the Tesla owners who still somehow worship or apologize for Musk, but most of them don’t deserve this at all. A lot of Tesla drivers dislike Musk and regret their purchases at this point.

They were the best electric car to buy for a long time. I don’t fault anyone for buying them in the past. If anyone buys one now, with all the information and other options we have, then maybe they’d deserve it.

As far as the murder part goes, dairy cows are mostly all killed very quickly after they stop producing milk. They are almost never allowed to live out their full lives. Especially, none of the cows in the larger dairy industry. The calves produced in the process are also just raised to be slaughtered. Besides the murder, The act of farming dairy products is also just cruel and inhumane in practice.

To produce milk, cows have to be kept in a pretty much constant state of pregnancy. Once the calves are born, they are immediately taken from the mother, and it is known that cows have maternal instincts that makes this painful for them. They have to be taken away, because otherwise they will drink the milk we are trying to steal from the process. Then the calf’s are raised in isolation for the first few months of their life on a milk substitute.

That is the bare minimum amount of cruelty needed to produce milk. Obviously, our modern capitalist driven dairy industry ramps up the cruelty in many other ways to increase productivity and efficiency.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Crazy. I had to look it up and I found some stuff, including this old web article from 2002 that talks about this cat. The cat’s name was, Miss Greeny, apparently.

There are multiple sources, but there is no wiki page and none of the sources seem well known, so I’m having a hard time figuring out if it’s legit, or just a really good hoax.

Gotta add a ‘daddy’ at the end for maximum effect.

Mexico is heading towards its most violent election ever, with 30 candidates murdered, 77 threatened and 11 kidnapped (english.elpais.com)

More than 170 attacks have been committed against politicians in the lead-up to the June elections. This violence has put campaigns under tension and is sowing doubts about governability in several regions. Specialists warn that the line between the Mexican state and organized crime is increasingly blurred...

The best thing to do would be to legalize and regulate cartel-related drugs. The cartels would not be able to compete if the war on drugs was ended, basically.

Not only would it have the effect of weakening the cartels, but it would also lead to a lot of harm reduction, because drug addicts would actually know what they are putting in their bodies.

A good example of this is Marijuana being legalized in most of the US, and its effect on the cartels. The cartels have almost completely backed out of the cannabis trade, because they can’t compete with the quality, price, and convenience of being able to buy weed legally at a store.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Same with Malcolm X, and Fred Hampton. As soon as any of these men started talking about class unity, the people in charge immediately acted to get rid of them. Really shows how scary class consciousness is to the ruling class.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Unfortunately, revolutions don’t happen in a peaceful way. The ones in charge of this country would not simply give that power up without a fight. They won’t even let college students protest US support of Israel, peacefully.

TopRamenBinLaden , (edited )

You make a good point. We all might be being copied and deleted in our sleep every night, for all we know.

There’d be no way to know anything even happened to you as long as your memory was copied over to the new address with the rest of you. It would be just a gap in time to us, like a dreamless sleep.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

There was a biased documentary produced called Honest Man: The life of R. Budd Dwyer that spread the myth that Dwyer was framed. AFAIK, there is no evidence to prove that this actually happened, at all.

The FBI investigated him, a grand jury indicted him, and a court jury (who saw all the evidence over a long period of time) convicted him. All the appeals filed by his lawyers, after his death, were also denied.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

I think Cuba is a better example of this, even though it is a tiny country.

The only people who are homeless in Cuba are those who choose to be. Other than that, they have managed to provide housing for all of their population even despite the harsh sanctions and lack of resources that Cuba has compared to other countries.

I am not saying Cuba is perfect or anything, but it really shows how countries like the US have the resources to solve the housing problem.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

I’m a leftist who dislikes capitalism, but I can admit that credit scores were a step up from the way loans were done before. The old way just made it so the banks themselves decided who they wanted to issue a loan to, and that led to a lot of racism and sexism when it came to giving the loans out.

Still, I do think we can come up with a better system than the current credit score system, and I think you have the right idea to point out it’s flaws to start the wheels turning on improving it.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Same happened here. Didn’t even know the emergency SOS mode was a thing.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

There is a man that wears chainmail armor made out of soda can pop tabs that is famous in both Tucson and Phoenix areas of Arizona. His name is Chicago, and you can catch him on the bus or at random punk and metal shows around AZ, if you are lucky.

Gender reassignments? Sure, but… At what age are we going to allow that? I’ve seen way too many people saying it’s okay for any kid at 5 years old.

Doctors and medical professionals should decide whether they want to perform gender reassignments, not the government. The medical professionals all seems to agree that they won’t perform a full gender reassignment until the patient is at least in their later teens. Anybody too young for gender reassignment is just being prescribed puberty blockers to give them more time to decide.

I don’t see any problem with just leaving it in the hands of medical professionals. Yea, some people may say it’s okay for 5 year olds to get a full gender reassignment, but those people aren’t doctors, and the process can’t really happen without a doctor involved.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

So what you are saying is that we need some of those suicide booths that they had in Futarama.

You bring up a good point that it would be hard to find many doctors or medical professionals willing to focus their careers on euthanasia, as it goes against their oaths.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

Are you calling indigenous people, who live as hunter gatherers, cogs in the machine? Or are you just not counting them?

I think there are some groups of people that get a pass when it comes to blame for the destruction of our planet. It’s a very insignificant amount of people in comparison to the total population, but they exist.

TopRamenBinLaden , (edited )

It was just a viral video series, at the time. I think they were popular on Vine. I definitely have heard it used a couple of times in real life, but mostly just when somebody got some new shoes or something.

TopRamenBinLaden ,

They use hacks like ESP and wallhacks.

In all seriousness, though, it’s only because they always outnumber and have more resources than the person/people that they are in a shootout with. Not because they are better with firearms than an average gun owner who also trains with their firearm.

TopRamenBinLaden , (edited )

There are some of us doing this, but not enough. The Socialist Rifle Association is very LGBTQIA+ friendly. They probably have a chapter near anyone in the US that happens to be reading this, if they are interested in learning how to defend and support their communities.
