They are generalizing, because if you delve into non major brands some are glyvlcerine based some, have aloe base , oatmeal etc rather than ethylene glycol and sodium laurel sulfate type standards ingredients (coconut extract is that nautral source of sodium laurel sulfate, some natural branda might be actual cocunut milk, but many use manufacture chemical additive)

BCsven ,

Isn’t conductor diameter important to supply proper wattage?

BCsven ,

As an NDA signer, they could be legit. I would like to comment also, but I don’t like law suits.

BCsven ,

And if that doesn’t work unplug it for a while and plug it back in.

BCsven ,

Thanks.

I always shy away from the ad hype of products, I have been in different industries, and have seen that a $ product vs $$$ product is sometimes identical innards, and a refreshed outer…which didn’t cost the manufacturer anything extra.

I have tried to explain this to my spouse, but she will still gravitate to buying the more expensive; equating cost with quality

Arch Stability

I have always been afraid to install Arch because they tell you it is difficult to install and unstable. I want a simple system following the KISS philosophy and install only what I need, which is little. I don’t need anything from the aur repository, for now. Just a year ago I installed Arch and there it is, no problems and...

BCsven ,

Same, heard all the rumblings on how hard to install Arch was, followed the guide one day and installed it without any issues, it was easy for a technical user ( probably hard for somebody coming from Windows GUI only).

A few things went wonky after an update, and I used the system daily for work; so went back to OpenSUSE where it was always stable, and built in snapahotting just in case.

If anyone tries OpenSUSE you can make it as minimal as you like during install. The summary menu prior to commiting to install has a software heading, click it and it brings you to patterns to chec/uncheck, from their you can click details and go to a full list of packages, deselect al, then click only the packages you want.

While your response is harsh, I think there is merit in it. A professional would work on the undelying issue, rather than daily placating of feelings.

BCsven ,

It seems a common trend on tiktok, etc. people crying on camera about how sad they are for internet points and attenrion, it is bizarre to me

BCsven ,

Fs-lint will do some of these things once you configure its actions

I swore against having kids-for lots of reasons-, same as my wife. But accidents happened and we became parents. As the cliche goes “it is life changing”.

It alters who you are and your idea of importance. There was stress, and exhausting times, but now they are adults they are my favourite people :)

It is a threshold moment situation, if you like your life how it is never have kids. If you have kids your life becomes different. No path is better than the other; just altered.

BCsven ,

Thanks for being open. as i mentioned there is no right or wrong choice, just different

BCsven , (edited )

As an unrelated side note: One thing that has been interesting is watching genes play out. My daughter smirks like her grandfather, and she has had maybe 5 days exposure to him in her lifetime. And my youngest rubs his feet together when stressed, like a self soothing routine, something his great-grandfather used to do, but he died before my son was born. We like to think we are all about choices and choose to be unique, But some invisible biology still controls things.

BCsven ,

it is a fair point. On another platform I got pummeled for suggesting that a terrible family that killed their young kids, had done them a favour; in that they didn’t have to endure a lifetime of abuse, and also would not pass on the learned abuse pattern to the next gen. To cold a suggestion I guess.

A supermarket trip may soon look different, thanks to electronic shelf labels (www.npr.org)

Grocery store prices are changing faster than ever before — literally. This month, Walmart became the latest retailer to announce it’s replacing the price stickers in its aisles with electronic shelf labels. The new labels allow employees to change prices as often as every ten seconds....

BCsven ,

Loblaws has had this for a while, we no longer shop thete, but it was frustrating because an item would fluctuate in price depending in what day you went. No way to budget for random pricing

BCsven ,

I would think the price changes happen overnight. With their system each RFID type price label can be flipped when the push the pricing to the register system.

I’m sure the old way was a deterrwnt in changeing prices because they had to call staff in to swap labels. Now it is computerized, so on a whim they can adjust.

We had an oat drink we liked one day 4.99 go back to grab another the next day 7.99. Few days later 3.50…we said screw this company and just got it at Walmart where price was consitent every time.

This is a very good article about server setup mainly for power consumption, but shows quirks like power level draw based on what pcie slots are used, etc. This guy servers. mattgadient.com/7-watts-idle-on-intel-12th-13th-g…

BCsven ,

Lego split screen did it well. side by side but if you move to some areas and other player does other things the vertical line starts to tilt and go horizontal, especially as you merge screens for co-op tasks

BCsven ,

That exist already in outlook or proton calendar, probably others too. you set the repeat interval and the end date, which can be set to never.

BCsven ,

But it is 14 for hotdog, fries and drink. sounds pretty much like any fastfood pricing tbh

BCsven ,

Same. We find restaurants a challenge because at home I make everthing from scratch, including sauces, and it is way above par…but also this week the fridge was low so i had a coffee and a large spoon of those fried dried onions for breakfast

BCsven ,

Good tip, thanks

BCsven ,

In corporate software it is often RHEL and SUSE for GUI based systems

Even cleaning up junk from your OS Filesystem looks like you are working, and you discover things you forgot you had

German state that moved 30000 seats of Windows over to Linux: Hans, zome schadenfraude dis morning, neh?

Soap works by attaching one side of molecule to the grease and one side to the water to pull dirt out of something, surface tension is not the only thing helping

BCsven ,

$7.99 a session and she will tell you the winning lottery numbers too

BCsven ,

Everything everywhere all at once. The hype made this a let down, it wasn’t even that good and I love weird thought provoking sci fi. This was just a goofy movie that is forgetable

BCsven ,

Wait…OpenSUSE /SUSE has YAST2-GUI GTK for everything. No need for cli, all the admin stuff, even kernel boot params, services, servers, changing various config files is all in a GUI environment.

BCsven ,

OpenSUSE has YAST2-GUI GTK. Full GUI for everything, users, hardware review, even fiddling with kernel, services, or editting text config files via admin gui.

BCsven ,

Specific ISOs tailored to specific hardware. Just makes it easy for a user to jump right in, without configuration if their hardware isn’t available in the default install…as well as other tweaks to make a good user experience.

Umm, teacher? This says Pocket Calculator right on it

The fuk? Please help me complete this insane captcha (lemmy.world)

Fridge fridge hamburger truck truck… ??? What’s the blue thing? I thought hamburger would be the answer, but it isn’t? I just get the same captcha with the hamburger in a different place. WTAF is happening? And what’s the blue thing? I answer and it refreshes with the same icons in different places. I AM HUMAN!

BCsven ,

But the cow might have lived longer than the fridge

BCsven ,

It was for my dad, he smoked from 16 till about mid 40s, then one day he said I’m done with the expense of this habit and never went back. My mom kept smoking till 60 then just gave it up. For some will power is enough

BCsven ,

I hear you. I had cancer in my neck and radiation to the throat, not from smoking ( i am a non smoker), but if I even smell smoke or on a heavy smokers clothing I start coughing. Same with smelling vinegar --go figure

BCsven ,

Nah, it should be like the audio jack, you plug in the headphomes with no proprietary bullshit…Apple is locking poor people out of this easy method by being dicks about lightning connec tors. Im glad EU forces them to USB-c but Apple will probably lock devices out on this also

BCsven ,

Yet… have you tried a non apple USB headset to see if it works? Just becauae you have USB doesn’t neccessaeily mean kernel allows all devices. But even if it works to placate EU now have you noticed that all giant companies start out with something that is OK, then later alter the deal, once you are trapped.

BCsven ,

Also I mention apple locks poor people out of headphones and you reply IPhone 15 is out. You realize many people can not afford a brand new iphone just because it came out?

BCsven ,

Not so much in places like Brazil, Africa, India etc. you can get a cheap Android phone for $25 but iPhone is still a premium luxury. The new phone every two years is a privalege thing.

BCsven ,

I haven’t experienced that. What is the use-case that makes this happen? I have one machine with only 8 gig and firefox is fine, and a 16 and 32 gig machine, firefox has never eaten 8 gigs

BCsven ,

Looks like high usage in UK and USA and Canada (as colonies) since it refered to the red tape used To bind legal documents closed. As a UK to Canada resident. i can say I just knew what the term meant from hearing it so often in conversations or on the news, but never though to look up where the term came from. TIL

BCsven ,

It is Microsoft Teams now, but older installs had it called Skype for Business

BCsven ,

I hate it so much. I want to do one simple search. Instead I get bullshit ad google links that are irrelevant, then MS MS Edge pushes me into Copilot for more garbage, which I have to mouse out of. Stract has become by search engine to get back the nostalgia of when the web wasn’t all shit

BCsven ,

yep and running teams would have skype services running…here is MS PR

Transitioning from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams To deliver smarter calling and meeting experiences with intelligent communications, we are bringing Skype for Business capabilities into Microsoft Teams

BCsven ,

Ubuntu is fine. But Caninical has made business decisions that are 100% inline with the typical foss intent.
