The biggest one for me is that most of the games come out on PC eventually anyway, and will generally run at higher resolutions and frame rates.

Also I like that I’ve got my PC, laptop, steam deck and Nvidia shields with steam link that can all play my games in various different situations. A traditional home console kinda limits the situations in which I can play my games.
That it limits how I can play games? Well yes, it might not be a huge issue in the grand scheme of things, but it kinda sucks when you want to go to engage in one of your hobbies and can’t for whatever reason.
A simple example—I don’t have a lot of free time these days and my partner might be in the middle of watching something on the main TV where the console would typically live.
With my current situation I can hang out in the same room as her and play something on my steam deck or laptop, or I could go upstairs and play on the PC or even on the bedroom TV via steam link.
With a typical console (I’m not including the switch here), I’d either have to kick my partner off the TV (kinda shitty) or fumble around for a bit disconnecting it, moving it and connecting it up again to my other TV. All of the PC options seem better to me IMO

Regardless, I wouldn’t say that was an issue for me, I guess it’s an issue for the console manufacturers as I assume the point of paying publishers for console exclusives is to attempt to shift more hardware and if I’m representative of any demographic that’s not good for them.
I mean, they hold the game hostage on a platform for a while just to sell things on that platform and the platform itself. That’s a bit of an issue, IMO.
Years ago my house was broken into and many things were taken, but not all the things you’d expect. They did take my PS3, laptop, and desktop but left the TV and all other electronics. Took only the Harry Potter movies from my bookcase of movies. Took a cheap anime sword. Among other odd things.
Honestly, it was mostly just inconvenient. Insurance gave me more than it was worth, even after I told them so.
However, it kinda looked like they knew what they were going for. Nothing was ransacked or anything. It wasn’t any of my current, at the time, friends but it may have been someone familiar with my place.

Well there are such restrictions on guns, try and get a short barrel rifle in under 30 min, the paperwork alone will take that long.
But also yeah those laws suck and shouldn’t exist. Much like the original intent behind CCW permits where the theory was “concealing is for criminals,” those knives were also seen as “for criminals.” It’s just old outdated bullshit that goes largely uncharged but can be used if they want to fuck with you. In some cases “criminals” was also synonymous with black people or even italians depending on the year lol, and were passed for racist reasons.
I was thinking the same thing. There are definitely restrictions on the size/function of guns, and you have to fill out paperwork, get fingerprinted, etc to get past those restrictions.
To buy any gun at a store, you also have to have a background check, which you generally don’t have to do for knives.
While that is true, in states with restrictive knife laws, there is no permitting, tax stamp, or background check option. They’re simply illegal typically without exception.
I.e., a CCW does not apply to an OTF knife or dagger in states where those types of knives are illegal, and there is no legal option available to legally carry one. Conversely, with sufficient paperwork, background check, and tax stamps, etc, you can get a machine gun.
I am just pointing out how odd it is that in some states there is a legal avenue for a citizen to purchase, own, and use a machine gun but not a small blade that opens with a button. But laws are often crazy, so, I guess it’s not really a huge surprise.

It’s very rare that people who wish that “guns were regulated like x” or “can’t believe that guns are less regulated than y” have very little knowledge of what gun laws actually are like at the federal level, much less the archipelago of state laws.

My local library doesn’t use Libby, and it makes me want to riot every time I think about it. They use another app called cloudLibrary, which is inferior in every way; It doesn’t even have e-reader support. You’re forced to read the books on your phone or desktop, because cloudLibrary refuses to integrate with third-party services like Amazon or B&N for kindle or nook. You can’t even download the ebooks. You have to view them in the app or on your desktop browser, and it basically loads a page at a time.
Needless to say, I own library cards to all of the libraries in the surrounding cities, because all of those use Libby.
I use afraid.org to keep my dynamic dns pointed at my routers ip. With afraid.org dns you only need a curl statement scheduled on the opendnswrt router to keep the dynamic ip updated.
I was assuming that you don’t own a domain. If you do why would you use Afraid? There are lots of reliable DNS services to choose from and you can have interface and features that aren’t frozen in 1995.
I own a lot of domains. Why would I want to run my own DNS when I can use a simple uncomplicated system that is time proven and reliable. They could of course set it up with a fisher price interface for thumb suckers who need flash. What feature do you need beyond standard records and a simple dynamic feature? The price isn’t that bad either.
You don’t run your own DNS, they are services hosted by someone else, just like Afraid. The difference, on top of the interface, is that they support modern record types, they have redundant servers all over the world, there’s a team working on them instead of just one guy, they have APIs that can let you manage your many domains easier, they have zone backup and restore etc.
I’ve used Afraid too, back when I was starting out and didn’t know any better, but once I’ve seen some of the other services out there I’ve never looked back. You’ll never know what extra features you could want if your current service doesn’t offer you any.
You don’t think you can run your own DNS? Currently I’m using local bind server at work to filter using commercial blocklists. It forwards all windows domain queries to the local AD servers DNS ensuring all internal windows related domains function normally. The external DNS queries though goes through bind and doesn’t care about anything except the root servers. I have firewall rules in place that prevent anyone from using any other DNS. Even DNS over TLS traffic is diverted to my DNS or blocked. It doesn’t rely on anything or any other organization other than the root servers.
In the twenty something years I’ve used afraid.org for personal use I’ve had very little down time. I’ve tried other services many, many times and other than something like cloudflare there is no point in switching. If you don’t want to use it, don’t. It works just fine and you can’t match the price anywhere else. To give you a sense of how many years I’ve been doing my own DNS I set my first DNS server for a dial up ISP in 95.
Finally, what record types are you referring to not being supported?
CAA and DNSSEC aren’t obscure. I would not even consider managing any domain nowadays without them.
Neither are ALIAS/DNAME/HTTPS, which you’ll be running into more and more in the future if you haven’t already. You could argue there are multiple competing standards at work there but Afraid doesn’t implement any of them.
Go away dude. I get that you have hived down the subject to the point of obsession but I’ve got websites that have been up for decades and if they go on a blocklist it will be for another reason. Not because of two barely used DNS records. Further if they become required then I’m sure they will be supported.
