Agree with this

I am not a native speaker and I never associated gimp with a sex meaning, even if my vocabulary is pretty expanded.

It could be called “DesirePix 2.0” or “SeductionStudio 4.0” but the main problem is that it gives a worse user experience than using Adobe Photoshop 5.0 on windows 95, on every single aspect. Features, speed, UI, ease of use, and so on

Moonrise2473 ,

Disclaimer: it’s not that I’m denigrating the devs, making a program like gimp is super fucking hard and as a lousy programmer I could never be able to make it better. Ideally, it would need some talented designers to develop a more usable UI.

I see comparisons to photopea, but that’s a UI clone of Photoshop and that is not really wanted. It also didn’t come with technical debt from the 90s

With the rampant corruption?

Theoretically with all the amassed oil wealth they could already be unstoppable. Instead it was spent on lavish villas, yachts, an so on.

What’s the point of having hundreds of billions in the bank when the population is still living with Soviet infrastructure?

They don’t do a “wanted list” for murderers, I don’t think they’re going to do that for some drunken tourist that was dressed like a penis

Moonrise2473 ,

There are many cases where murderers were allowed to leave the country under the "pinky promise I will come back "

For example Rassoul Bissoultanov

The Spanish system is overburdened and someone is finally judged guilty after years and years. Meanwhile, if leave the country, good luck finding them again.

They can’t manage for murders and robberies, adding block lists for petty crimes would only exacerbate the situation

Can anyone help me with a problem with Photoshop on Linux (Lutris) (feddit.nl)

I managed to get Photoshop CS6 installed on Lutris, using the script on their site. The problem is however, that whenever I open a file (doesn’t matter if it is jpg, png, psd, etc.) the screen remains black. I can see the picture in the Layer thumbnail, but not in the main work-area. Does anyone know what the problem might be?...

Moonrise2473 OP ,

From what I saw that you just need to claim it by stating that’s yours, only risking to get sued by the original owner.

So what’s the point of this Israeli NGO? That because another Arab country that has economic interests removed mentions of Palestine, then the Israeli government is allowed to remove from existence the Palestinians?

Fucking finally, ten years ago I had last minute changes and without internet access I took a whole fucking day walking miles and miles to find an hotel that accepted foreigners and only because it was very late and I offered to help them to fill the form on the computer

In rural China if you’re not a Han with local id card you can’t do anything. No access to internet points, can’t buy a phone card, can’t use ATM, can’t easily buy train tickets (only a specific booth can, not all of them) and so on

If it has to run in a VM, no thanks

Otherwise just run the existing android apps on the external display like the Motorola atrix was doing in 2011. Now the phones have a little bit more power, the experience should be better

With how Google is obsessed by telemetry, they would kill the feature in less than 6 months.

They would see in the telemetry dashboard “only 0.5% of users use it, kill it” - but when you have 2.5 billion users, it’s still millions of users…

Especially when it’s a feature used by pro users, which almost always change the default setting to stop the telemetry…

Have you ever bough an external hardrive only to take the disk out of it?

Hiya, so am looking to buy more storage and while browsing am seeing some external harddisks, such as Western Digital My Book and Seagate Expansion Desktop for cheaper than the internal harddisks themselves. Have seen this one video from KTZ Systems where he bought up multiple of these external ones just to open them up and use...

Moonrise2473 ,

Yes and i got “scammed” - western digital in order to save $3 included the USB port directly on the drive motherboard instead of the usual sata+usb like anyone else was doing

Moonrise2473 ,

maybe if you buy them from aliexpress, but WD/Seagate USB drives have better warranty than internal drives and at the same time they need to withstand more abuse from users (of course that warranty is void the moment you shuck them)

for some people is normal to keep an hdd in the backpack and carry it around all the time (for me is unconceivable)

Putting a spy satellite into orbit has long been a top priority for Kim Jong-un’s regime

One would say that a priority for a communist country is to serve basic needs to the population instead of let them starve in the dark

Or maybe the service is degraded because there are thousands of people connecting to the same cell and Verizon can’t justify the $$$ of placing more transceivers/bandwidth in a supermarket placed in the middle of nowhere with zero residents.

It’s resurfacing old tech? My Sony Ericsson P800 from 20 years ago had a screen that worked great in direct sunlight. It worked best in direct sunlight, the brightest the sun, the better you could see. Downside is that in the dark it had poor illumination

It’s LCD with a reflective background and lateral illumination rather than backlight

Last time someone tried to deliver some aid, the IDF bombed them because they thought they were Hamas.

…wikipedia.org/…/World_Central_Kitchen_aid_convoy…

The IDF fired three missiles in five minutes at three of the WCK’s cars, with some survivors of the first strike boarding the second car, which was minutes later hit by a second missile, and some survivors of the second strike boarding the third car, which was in turn struck by a third missile.[3] All seven aid workers were killed

But the IDF said sorry we were thinking it was Hamas so again the west is ok with that

I was ready to write shit on Tesla then I saw the video. The asshole was driving at that speed in the fog??? And let some alpha proof of concept software that relies only on cameras to let drive in the fog???

If the human eye doesn’t see the train crossing, how a camera can see it?

Although a bit of fault to Tesla, because the system should have known from the maps that over there was a train crossing and should have slowed down anyway

Moonrise2473 ,

True, it should also refuse to activate in low visibility situation

Biden stressed his belief that Israel was the victim dating back to the Oct. 7 attack

Yes, we are not disputing that. Israel definitely was the victim at the time. But that doesn’t mean they’re allowed to kill so many innocent people that we now have lost the count

here all the plans have hundreds of “free” SMS but MMS are still 2 euro each even on the most expensive “all unlimited 300gb of 5g” plans

Moonrise2473 OP ,

i also have a subscription that includes everything, but the fact is that in italy, no carrier offers a plan that has even just 1 MMS included each month. Even the most expensive plan with the most expensive carrier does not include a single MMS.

1 MMS = 2 euro = imessage and RCS are dead

Moonrise2473 OP ,

They decided the pricing 20 years ago during the early days of EDGE data pricing. Then they realized that the money that’s flowing from users that accidentally send them is a gold mine, so they left the crazy pricing

Moonrise2473 OP ,

that’s now, 15 years too late to revert the “i need to be careful or the carrier will fuck my wallet” mindset that everyone got

Moonrise2473 OP ,

In my case it’s just temporary. Every once in a while I’m supposed to take the phone, delete all the useless shit, archive the photos in the computer. Problem is last time I did that was over a year ago because procrastination

Moonrise2473 OP ,

MMS yes, by deleting all the APN profiles. Always did it since 20 years ago

Can disable SMS sending by changing the “SMS center number” but I don’t think can disable reception

Luckily in my country the carrier in the early 2000s they decided to scam users with MMS and the “internet button” nearby the “OK” button and not with the “SMS double dip” where both sender and receiver would be charged for texts - too prone to abuse from assholes with large plans

“Internet button scam” explained for young people: in the early 2000s some carriers charged 1-2 euro each time you started an internet session. This for two main reasons:

  1. To block new chat apps. We had “jar” apps like ebuddy, IMO or jacksms that could let the user chat spending much less. They were super optimized for data saving and even at the astronomical 20 euro per MB that they were charging at the time, it meant a chat session with a friend would cost 8 cents instead of 3 euro of texts. I would make two short calls to my friend, it would mean “go online and check the chat”
  2. Get free money from people with fat fingers. Opening the browser would immediately charge the user 2 euro. There was a competition between phone makers to place the “internet button” in the most asshole position. Nearby the “call” button, or as a dynamic button, like at the home screen, the “ok” button would open the internet, while in the menu would be “ok”. I had a Motorola where they placed it in the middle or the D-pad and I always accidentally pressed it. This could be mitigated by avoiding the purchase of a “carrier branded” phone because it could be toggled off. If you bought a phone with Vodafone branding instead every button had a way to let you spend money
Moonrise2473 OP ,

We didn’t have unlimited texts long after WhatsApp. Nowadays every plan comes with thousands of them but just because nobody uses them and a big number is free marketing

MMS never free except some scam from Tim and Vodafone where if you paid 10 euro to recharge a PAYG account, they would actually credit you 8 euro and give you 50 MMS “free”, but expiring in 30 days and could only be sent free only if on the same network. But how could someone know if it was on the same network??? Exactly, it was designed preying on the fact that it was possible to change network …

Moonrise2473 OP ,

It depends by the network.

Here Tim and Vodafone have teams of lawyers and professional scammers to brainstorm new ideas to extract more money from users.

For example, a few years ago they decided that the monthly plans should not renew every earth month, but every moon cycle. Can you imagine to rewrite the billing software to charge users every moon cycle instead of every month? A nightmare but they stole billions, because there are 13 moon cycles in a year instead of 12 months.

Another scam that they have on PAYG plans (literally everyone here is on PAYG plans because otherwise there’s a 10 euro month tax derived from the 70s where mobile phone service was a luxury and not a necessity) is that they allow overdrafts up to 2 euro, but with a 2 euro fee. And they do plans like 10.90 monthly but only allowing paying credit in multiple of 10. So you might be 90 cents short, but they would first let you go in negative credit, then charge you 2 euro “overdraft fee” next time you add credit.

So as a population we are always vary of phone carriers. We are always on the defensive “OK, where’s the catch, how would they fuck me”

Luckily I now have a plan from a swiss owned carrier that would take from my credit card the exact money that is needed to renew the PAYG plan. So the credit is always zero and there’s no way that I’m spending more than I should

An increase in bad seeds on Bit Torrent?

So I’ve been grabbing a few shows I want to watch reruns of while playing Balatro that don’t have good blu ray releases. My piracy is fairly limited these days so I don’t bother with private trackers (do have a VPN though). In the past, I never really had an issue with grabbing a few one offs off the popular, maybe...

Moonrise2473 ,

I remember fifteen years ago I wanted to pirate new super Mario bros for Wii but Nintendo hired a lot of bad peers on eMule, it was impossible to download it. It would download it super fast thanks to the hundreds of fake peers that would upload garbage data, but then when completed it would check it and fall back to 0.2% completed. Super frustrating.

In the end I just gave up because I hate and suck at platformers, why would I ever pirate something that I would never play, but at the time in the forums someone said that with IP address filters it was possible to complete the downloads, by blacklisting all the commercial ip address space and allowing only residential (or maybe they were just living in the right spot, at the time in select cities in my country there was an ISP that ran a fiber optic MAN - metropolitan area network, and it was awesome for piracy, as they didn’t block the smb V1 protocol between customers so there were peers that shared gold mines)

I feel that’s not actually replaced by ai rather his previous works have been templated and a script is replacing names and stuff automatically. The solution is called “ai” because in this way the developer can price it higher

This said, for a client point of view, switching from “everything is custom” (=$$$) to “everything is from a cookie cutter” is not good. Long term viability of that marketing company is compromised, IMHO. Why a client should pay $$$ if all it gets is something that could come with $5 from Fiverr or even with a free Canva trial?

A graphic designer is still indispensable, especially if they were “so busy that could barely take a few days off”
