ChexMax , to nostupidquestions in Why does it seem like women are more wont to make noise in sexual situations while men don't?

I always thought it was purely social conditioning, but I’ve got a theory that just popped in my head. I wonder if women need to be more vocal to communicate “Yes that’s good, keep doing that”? Like frankly my partner is often in charge of pace, depth, and even calling for position changes. I’m letting him know with my noises how good something is for me, If you should keep doing it, or if I get quiet he knows to try something different. I don’t mind him being quiet at all, until I’m on top and then I’m like I literally cannot tell if this is good for you. I have to ask out loud “is that good?” And then change something, “is that good?” After a blow-job I have to ask him, what parts did you like more than the other parts? Obviously I can tell he’s into it overall, but It’s really hard to know if a rhythm or amount of pressure is better than another if moaning doesn’t increase when you try something. Like he can absolutely tell when he hits a good spot when fingering me because my moans make it very obvious. I will straight say, “yes,” “please,” “right there,” “don’t move.” All kinds of stuff. It’s not just about making it hotter for the other person, it’s about communicating how good something is for you so they don’t have to do as much guessing

BluesF ,

Yeah. I mean if he’s blowing it the she probably feels left out.

CapeWearingAeroplane ,

I’ve also always thought it may have to do with social conditioning, but possibly on a non-sexual level. My thought is that guys are (generally) conditioned to be more quiet about intimate things, or things that are good, and more loud in “aggressive” situations. This fits well with the factual observation that men are less likely to talk about personal problems with a friend, and more likely to push the boundaries (be vocal) in an interview. In my head, it’s an extension of the “strong, silent” stereotype, which is often regarded as positive. Women, on the other hand, are (typically) socially conditioned to be more vocal about feelings in general. I wouldn’t be surprised if these conditionings bleed over into how vocal people are during sex.

With that said: I’m a guy, and my gf likes it when I make noises. Once I got used to it, I also learned to enjoy grunting. Grunting is highly recommended.

I’d argue for a basic use case most distro’s would work well, right? All come with a browser, a PDF reader, and some word doc/spreadsheet program. PM_Your_Nudes_Please , to piracy in Favourite FOSS Torrenting Client for Linux that has a VPN killswitch?

As others have said, just use qBit. It’s feature-rich and supports network interface binding. Simply bind it to your VPN’s interface, and it’ll only use your VPN. If your VPN connection drops/isn’t turned on, qBit simply won’t be able to connect.

There’s a simpler option for those who like Transmission: lemmy.world/comment/5269089

baduhai ,

That doesn’t look like a simpler option to me…

PM_Your_Nudes_Please ,

I disagree that it’s simpler, because most VPNs will use dynamic IPs. So any time your internet flickers or your power goes out, you’ll need to reconfigure Transmission with the new IP. Sure your method works for a kill switch. But it requires manual intervention every time it gets killed. With qBit’s interface binding, it doesn’t care what the VPN’s IP is. All it cares about is that it’s using the specific interface. So if the VPN is disconnected (and the VPN’s interface has no connection) then qBit simply thinks there’s no connection to the internet.

TCB13 , (edited )
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

you’ll need to reconfigure Transmission with the new IP. Sure your method works for a kill switch. But it requires manual intervention every time it gets killed.

It doesn’t. You can specify your VPN provider range instead of a single IP and you won’t need manual intervention.

If you go the systemd route you can do it even better with RestrictNetworkInterfaces:

RestrictNetworkInterfaces= Takes a list of space-separated network interface names. This option restricts the network interfaces that processes of this unit can use.

So I guess this is a better option than doing IP or IP range restrictions - zero manual intervention like you do in qBit. I’m so used to work with IPs instead of interfaces (because of the issues that can cause) that I even forgot about that option.

Kusimulkku ,

In what way does this seem simpler to you?

TCB13 ,
@TCB13@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not just about being simple, it’s about 1) still using transmission - because some people like decent and simple torrent clients and 2) a systemd enforced network restriction is way safer than whatever bind to interface / IP setting a program might come up with.

Kusimulkku ,

But you called it a simpler option, that’s why I’m asking

With that said, pirating tools is one thing, but using other people’s loops or artistic work without approval is another matter altogether. And that kind of stuff will land you into all kinds of trouble, not to mention curb your work as talk will quickly get around in the community.

If you’re serious about becoming a musician or artist or a creative selling their work, reputation and community standing is like 90% of it.

And if you’re wondering how can an artist tell? We know our work. And people talk. Share stuff. Sooner or later, it’ll get around. The internet is still powered by people.

It appears to be a rule against posting food made from animal products. As someone who doesn’t eat animal products myself, I don’t particularly enjoy scrolling Reddit or Lemmy and seeing a picture of a meat dish, but it doesn’t ruin my day I would never dream of demanding a content warning for it.

To my knowledge CWs are geared towards content that has the potential to trigger past trauma, and I can’t understand how a food category could be so broadly traumatic to someone (outside of EDs I guess, which is obviously not the focus of this rule).

SgtAStrawberry ,

Unfortunately trigger warnings got watered down very quickly, to now also being used as an “anything someone might find the slightest discomfort in”

threeduck ,
@threeduck@aussie.zone avatar

I suspect it’s less of a trigger warning, and more of a means to reframe perceptions of food.

Like, if TV commercials just started putting little “viewers may find the following depictions of dead animals disturbing” stingers before a commercial of a family eating steaks, it might change perceptions over time.

HardlightCereal ,

Yeah, that’s exactly what it is.

Homelander drinking a consenting woman’s breast milk is disturbing and helps convince viewers he’s a creep. Yet if he were to enjoy a nice glass of refreshing cow breast milk, that would be completely normal. Why? Because our society has made a very deliberate choice not to consider there being anything wrong with milking a cow.

Hexbear simply does not participate in that choice. On Hexbear, there is something disturbing about milking a cow, and that’s because the admins want you to be disturbed by it. That has always been the default state of things.

    thedarkfly , (edited ) to nostupidquestions in How can we see the Milky Way if we are inside of it?

    When we look at the sky, there is a line where there is way more stars than usual. This line goes all the way around the sky. This was called the milky way by the Greeks because it was like a road sparkled with milk drops. At some point, we deduced that we were in a group of stars arranged in a flat disk. Later, we realized that some weird space clouds (nebulae) were much further away than we thought and were actually other huge groups of stars like our own that we named galaxies, still after milk.

    There are more details me course. Even along the line in the sky drawn by the milky way, there is one side where there is much more stars and dust than the other. We deduced that we were at the edge of the disk and the bright region was the center of our galaxy. Also, the amount of gas and dust that block certain types of light that teach us that our galaxy has arms.

    fede OP ,

    Great explanation, I finally get it! thank you

    CrabAndBroom ,

    That’s definitely the more PG-13 version of why the ancient Greeks called it the Milky Way lol. Alternate version from Wikipedia:

    In Greek mythology, Zeus places his son born by a mortal woman, the infant Heracles, on Hera’s breast while she is asleep so the baby will drink her divine milk and thus become immortal. Hera wakes up while breastfeeding and then realizes she is nursing an unknown baby: she pushes the baby away, some of her milk spills, and it produces the band of light known as the Milky Way.

    Great explanation, although I want to clarify that not all nebulae are galaxies. Nebulas are massive clouds of dust and gas that are found within galaxies. Other galaxies were previously thought to be nebulas in space outside of the Milky Way, called extragalactic nebulae. However, in the early 1900s it was proven that these were actually other galaxies and not nebulas, so the term is no longer used.

    While there are nebulae in other galaxies, they are not easily visible to us, so the word nebula generally refers to those contained within the Milky Way.
