There was just an article posted around here about future games in Los Angeles …. Where one of the venues is in Oklahoma, unless I got seriously trolled, for exactly this: trying not to build as much new stuff.

Here in Boston when they were talking about putting in a bid, all the discussion was about upgrading athletic facilities for all the regional colleges, and getting more hotels built to handle more tourism

they may have had reason to believe the remaining complaints were not valid or not actionable or not in scope.

Maybe it’s my biases showing but while I can see the possibility that they’re not doing their job, only investigating a minuscule percent, I can also see possibilities that they were set up to fail, or that most complaints are obvious fakes or their scope is limited so most are not relevant.

I know I’ve never had reason to complain about the wrong person using the wrong bathroom. Have you? This really seems like a non-problem.

Of course im also on the side of fewer restrictions. Even back several decades ago when I was in college, the bathrooms in my dorm were coed, and we survived.

Realistically the only complaint I ever had was more age related. One time a Dad brought his kid in the changing room at the pool and did not use the curtained off area: she was really too old for that. She was clearly aware and uncomfortable being surrounded by naked guys - this could have been better handled. As a Dad myself, I let my kids go in themselves before that age so I mainly blame him being overprotective. Or at least I blame him for not using the curtained area that was right there that would have given her a little privacy

Coed bathrooms at college seemed to work pretty well, and even improved privacy in some ways.

  • everyone washed their hands. Nothing like peer pressure to encourage that
  • stalls had walls and doors
  • urinals had little privacy walls line so many no longer do

So if I’m using a urinal and someone walked in, regardless who they were, all they see is some guy standing there. If someone uses a stall, regardless of who they were , I can probably tell that it’s occupied and maybe judge them for their shoes, but that’s it. What’s the problem?

Given the massive amount of things some women carry in their purses, and the plethora of choices in sanitizing wipes, I don’t understand why this isn’t solved already. If you’re afraid of butt rabies or see something suspicious on the seat, a quick wipe and you’re done. I understand most of us don’t want to carry more stuff but I’ll bet there’s a big overlap between people who already do and people who are afraid of butt rabies

Seems like it’s common out at clubs or similar events. Especially with alcohol, where people need to pee more often. There are similar numbers of men and women and similar numbers of facilities but lines at women’s get longer and longer until some just don’t care.

Maybe I’d care if there were enough crossovers to make me wait in line too, but so far I’ve never had reason to complain, nor have I heard any other guy complain. …. Maybe I should shut up before emboldening others to inconvenience me, but whatever

While I admit I didn’t pursue it when I lived in a similar situation, there’s a case to be made that would violate electrical code. You should be able to safely plug in any appliance which meets the limitation of the outlet.

In my case, I just ignored that and got a window AC anyway. Granted it was a lot smaller than needed and even that made the lights dim, but it did plug in to a standard outlet. Probably not a good choice but the easy choice

Part of “solving” climate change is being able to adapt or migrate to mitigate it. The planet doesn’t care what the climate is doing, it’s just the living that do so adapting to life in a changed climate is certainly part of a solution

It’s been a long time since I rented but maybe purchasing a house has an analogy.

  • I was told I had to leave behind wired in speakers when I sold my townhouse. The buyers had seen them in their tour so could legally expect them, and my contract hadn’t called them out as an exception. Legally they had the advantage
  • The house I bought was missing a ceiling fan that I had seen during the tour and it hadn’t been called out as an exception. Legally I had the advantage and the sellers had to replace it at their cost

  • Maybe in some situations a stove is required but as long as it’s safe and can be used, there is nothing requiring every feature to work, nor is it in the contract. There is no explicit requirement that all four burners work. However, if it is there we all expectant to work
  • electrical code has requirements for safety and for minimum level of service, but after that, nothing requires everything to work nor is that detailed in the contract. There is no requirement for electrical service beyond the minimum. However, we do expect them all to work and have the legal advantage

In the same way, AC is not required feature. However if it is there when I decide to rent and I have decided to rent with that information then I do expect it to work and I do call it fraud if it doesn’t

Right, and worse. After years of dragging their feet, broadcasting FUD to discourage potential customers, they try to all release premium priced cars at once to now uncertain customers. And priced well above their initial announcements. Of course their naive predictions of ridiculous growth didn’t pan out. They’re not just guilty of dragging their feet, but screwing up when they finally tried it.

And what the heck is wrong with GM? The second biggest American seller of EVs, and they drop what has been working, to make the same mistake as everyone else. And wtf were they thinking about piling on with dropping CarPlay and claiming they can do better: wtf, we e seen what you can do, that’s why everyone wants CarPlay. Oh, and I’m sure all this talk about subscriptions is really going to bring in the buyers

Yeah, my office has a couple free chargers. It’s really not worth the fuss for me since I can charge at home and it’s a short commute but I’m happy to see there’s always a queue

It’s nowhere near as bad as you think. A level 2 charger is essentially an electric stove circuit, and the chargers are only a few hundred dollars. I had to do both this year and there really wasn’t a significant cost difference. I charge once or twice a week for a couple hours. It’s quite reasonable to install a level 2 charger if you have a single family house with off street parking

Or for like $150, I got a full set of adapters to charge pretty much everywhere. In addition to a regular outlet, I can plug into a 240v dryer/powertool/heater/ac outlet, or an RV outlet for a faster charge.

While I do have many charging stations nearby (and I’ll bet that’s far more common in the population than people who don’t), with a home charger, I’ve never had the need to use a public charger less than 100 miles from here

There’s no reason to need a garage. Mine is full of kids crap so I never park there, and just had the charger installed on the exterior p of my garage where it’s convenient to my car in the driveway. They’re all weatherproof and it’s not like someone is going to spend hours in your driveway charging their car to steal a couple bucks of electricity. Or, at least for Tesla, every car has a unique identifier, so you can configure a white list of allowed vehicles while blocking every phone else.

If I were expecting to buy a car for $1-2k, I’d expect it to be on its last legs, even for ICE. Unless you’re comfortable fixing it yourself, any significant repair is already not worth it

If you’re looking for a 10,000 pound vehicle, and are not one of a very small percentage that needs it, you have other problems. Yes, EVs are too heavy, but think like 20% heavier that on comparable, it’s not that bad. It’s only excessively huge inefficient trucks that are that heavy. My mid-sized SUV EV is a 4,000 pound explosive, thank you very much.

One of the benefits, if you’re able to install a home charger, is to never really have to think about refueling. Think of it like charging a phone and just get into the habit of charging over night. I need to recharge a couple hours per week, but I never have to go anywhere. When I get home, if the car is below 50%, I plug in. Then It’s always just ready to go without me ever waiting or going anywhere. So much more convenient than gas stations. Granted road trips aren’t as convenient but they’re also not as bad as people fear

I feel like Jeep owners will be the last to go EV: the car is so unique in appearance, customizable, and functionality. And it’s not like Jeep owners are looking for efficiency.

Some of Cybertruck’s announced capabilities might have bit into that market, if they’re able to deliver them eventually

That’s what I’ve been saying for the last several years: give me a good commuter EV to replace my more commuter ICE. I still think two car households in single family homes are the ideal market, but i divorced my second car and spent a little more in the EV that can get me places. So far so good with road trips up to 3 hours, but we’ll see this summer with bigger road trips

Y’all really need to go about asking your landlord to install chargers. There are even options where it charges you for power so he’s not out the cost

They’ll probably ignore the request, but at this point it’s progress to plant the seed, give them the idea, show them interest is building. Your future self will thank you

The condo my ex lives in just had a board meeting about installing chargers. It seemed like a reasonable cost and they haven’t rejected it, so it’s possible
