Extra pro tip for new dog owners:

Try to never, ever, EVER. chase your dog. If they don’t think it’s a game, they won’t do this.

Of course there are emergencies, but try to always make it a game of them coming to you.

Mirror all data on NAS A to NAS B

I’m duplicating my server hardware and moving the second set off site. I want to keep the data live since the whole system will be load balanced with my on site system. I’ve contemplated tools like syncthing to make a 1 to 1 copy of the data to NAS B but i know there has to be a better way. What have you used successfully?

Believe it or not, straight to jail.

Audio book gang unite!

I normally pirate audio books and purchase them physically for our bookshelves around the house because I like the look and supporting the author but I like listening a lot more.

I’m inexperienced with Usenet, but why is it better than torrenting?

I have 5-6 trackers which provides me basically everything I need and it sounds like Usenet might be similar in that regard.

navi ,
@navi@lemmy.tespia.org avatar

That’s interesting about the life time. I’ve actually heard the opposite, where niche/old things can be easier to get from specific trackers vs Usenet because of their lack of popularity.

I suppose it’s probably mostly about which websites you are a part of and if they specialize in specific content.

Big fan of unRAID, glad the top license stays lifetime (for now anyways).

One hopes that this revenue improves development times.

I respect that they have made all of it opt out (or at least every thing that I don’t want to use).

Their app platform is just too polished to give up for me right now, but a nice, FOSS alternative that worked on the piece of shit smart TV from 6 years ago my mom uses would be nice too.

Note: hang the bells next to the door so the dog doesn’t associate every door open with ringing the bells. This helped us on puppy number two not trying to ask to go outside to play 😂.

If I recall correctly the big difference being that Mercedes is the first manufacturer to take legal liability for an accident while their software is driving (under the specific circumstances), which is pretty big IMO.

Wot The Fsck You Say, Spotify? (lemmy.world)

Edit: A couple times I’ve said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I’ve learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free ‘included in premium’ audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn’t make sense, unless they count accidental...

Any othet alternative to telegram that is more open sourced , privacy ,security focused is available in fdroid etc.

Wanted to know if there are any other android apps with features like telegram such as sending ,recieving big files creating channels etc. Using a bot or channel in telegram to pirate movies and series are infinitely easier than torrenting . But as telegram is not fully open source and requires a phone number to create an...

Self-hosted or personal email solutions?

I have a unique name, think John Doe, and I’m hoping to create a unique and “professional” looking email account like [email protected] or [email protected]. Since my name is common, all reasonable permutations are taken. I was considering purchasing a domain with something unique, then making personal family email accounts for...

Players who don't like survival games as a genre: Which survival games are your personal exceptions, which ones have you enjoyed nonetheless and why?

Personally, I really don’t like most of these games due to the tedium and frustration that comes with hunger/thirst mechanics. Most of the exceptions that I do actually like either make up for it through something else that elevates the experience enough - or they either don’t have these mechanics or allow for players to...
