It’s pretty concerning, as health authorities in the USA don’t seem to do enough to prevent the situation from getting worse. The dairy industry doesn’t want its profits to be touched, and several politicians seem to be more concerned about the economic impacts. Various far-right groups basically created the framework for their anti-science actions with the COVID pandemic and various anti-vaxx groups that existed before it. Therefore they will double down in their efforts to resist any kinds of mitigation efforts because of “freedom” and “do not comply”. Hell, many of them are buying raw milk in hopes of “gaining immunity” and of course “owning the libs”!

It could be said that I am already preparing. When at work, doing groceries, hitting the gym and so on, I am wearing an FFP2 mask (equivalent to N95). This is exceptional here in Finland, where many people have drunk the Kool-Aid of “COVID being over” fed by the THL, our equivalent to your CDC. The only people I have seen masking actively are people collecting bottles from streets and parks! The THL has done similar blunders about public health messaging and “studies”.

I am not losing my night’s sleep because of this, but who knows what happens in the coming months?

In case of 4chan it’s obviously other anonymous imageboards. There doesn’t seem to functionality in Lemmy that would allow for posting without accounts.

Been playing Vanquish. The game feels like a Japanese take on then-popular cover-shooters like Gears of War, but with faster pace and mechanics like sliding that incentivize not relying on covers too much. Like with Platinum’s titles, there’s deep mechanics and really getting into the game starts when replaying the game’s missions.

Just read that woman’s manifesto and it was exactly the kind of shit that one writes after reading too much Linkola and Kaczynski, in addition to finishing the first course of philosophy in upper secondary school. The humanity is doomed because of excessive individualism and consumerism, and countries should strive economically for degrowth instead of growth. Governments should do more things for the environment and grassroots action is necessary. TikTok makes people dumb and ignorant of societal issues. “Drastic measures are required, for we have gone too far”… and the solution is to have a gun and kill a bunch of people??? These people don’t really have creative solutions for such big problems.

Tomb Raider Anniversary was dirt-cheap on Steam so I bought it. As a remake it feels a whole lot smoother to play compared to the 1996 original, no tank controls. I also installed ReShade and a couple of texture upscale mods to make it more pleasant-looking, with add-on enhanced ReShade I could also use ray-traced global illumination.

I played BattleBit Remastered for the first time since August and I really need to hone my skills.

I also several demos on Steam, News Tower really got me hooked with its gameplay. The full game should release on Early Access in a couple days, might as well buy it.

According to research, a COVID patient is contagious for approximately 10 days after first symptoms, and in severe cases that can be even 20 days. Plus approximately 40% of COVID cases are asymptomatic. Therefore this decision is idiotic. What could possibly go wrong?

COVID-19 does not necessarily behave like other respiratory viruses — hospitalizations and deaths have never dropped to zero the way flu does outside of the winter months — and it is still unpredictable, Aboelata said.

“This policy is not based in science, equity or public health. It devalues the lives of immunocompromised and disabled people, and completely ignores the risk of long COVID,” said Lisa McCorkell, co-founder of the Patient-Led Research Collaborative, which studies the impacts of long COVID.
