I read some odd magic words like fabric of the universe idk if sounded like scufi and fintasy I got confused

Do you leave a tip for housekeeping if you're only staying one night in a hotel?

Is it a ‘thank you for prepping my room’ or ‘please clean my room today’? If you tip post cleaning, it’s likely going to someone else the next day. Many hotels now only do housekeeping on demand. How do employees feel about this - do they miss the tips or are they happy for a less stressful workday?...

nitefox ,

You still have a 20% tip at restaurants, it’s insane

nitefox ,

Kagi is better

nitefox , (edited )

I did lol, why the hell would I recommend it otherwise?

It’s a search engine, so to be better than the others it’s obvious it would have to return better results than the usual ad-based crap — and it does. There is a free trial and you can check out if it’s worth it for you btw

It has quite a lot of QoL features for searches, but their main one — searching — is worth the cost; if you do a search once in a blue moon or append “Reddit” at the end of a query, it’s not imo since any search engine is “good enough” for that. If you instead actually do a search without having a specific website in mind, it’s good. You can also filter out the quora and other shitty websites results, which is nice

nitefox ,

Cause the free alternatives are trash, so… it’s not like “free is better” is always true

nitefox ,

Oh it happens all the time. The worst thing, in this case, is that you don’t even need to be Ukrainian to have such an opinion — people demonising an entire population deals in absolutes which are never a black/white situation, unfortunately

Can you live without YouTube ?

Today in a Privacy community a post about YouTube. No word about privacy but all about which software or settings are needed to watch videos and the money needed to host videos. It made me wonder whether some of you can lead a meaningful life without YouTube. Or will a cold turkey bring the worst out of you ?

nitefox ,

I never watch videos unless I have to so yeah

TIL the dev of Iron Lung, an acclaimed indie horror game, faced significant backlash over increasing the price from $6 to $8 (www.ign.com)

Then, responding to those who have said he’s “only doing this for the money", Szymanski tweeted: “Yes, no fucking shit. I make games for a living. If I didn't want to earn money from them I wouldn't charge money for them.”...

nitefox OP ,

Do you have any app that you suggest and any store where to actually download the file? Right now I buy physical — I love the feeling of paper — but it’s annoying that I can’t read when outside

nitefox OP ,

Yeah it’s the same reasoning I have. But space’s getting tight and when I will move out it will be so annoying

nitefox OP ,

Same! Damn, nowadays I hate staying in front of a screen

nitefox OP ,

Apple Books has 50 classics epub for free as well

nitefox OP ,

I think it’s not available for iOS

nitefox ,

I wrote a short story that is actually well written and doesn’t make me puke.

Obviously I never finished it and moved on to the next project, so well… glass half empty?

nitefox ,

I somewhat agree. It varies from person to person though, so it really depends.

When I brainstorm, outline or take notes, I prefer handwrite them

nitefox ,

Why don’t they just disallow chargebacks for NSFW content then?

nitefox ,

Or it could hamper his writing to the point he won’t be as good

nitefox ,

I literally still do this. Literally.

nitefox ,

mobile games? Didn’t know COD etc. were mobile games, really

nitefox ,

It go so much worse lately it’s on par with Google. I’m out of search engines tbf

nitefox ,

There is a 100 searches trial which oddly enough is actually plenty. It was a very good experience but I wish there was a cheaper plan to be fair

nitefox ,

This will make a fine addition to my (infinite) backlog.

nitefox ,

He was hired to kill Luke, what’s the point?

nitefox ,

They did the same to HoI4

nitefox ,

World of Warcraft, I guess. Last expac was quite great even though Shadowlands - to some degree BFA - was trash

nitefox ,

Why does that make him stereotypical evil though? are all bad people supposed to only hold “evil” values?

nitefox ,

Do not tempt me I’m stronger than this

Do not tempt me I’m stronger than this

Do not tempt me I’m stronger than this

Do not tempt me I’m stronger than this

Do not tempt me I’m stronger than this

nitefox ,

that’s kinda a cringe and edgy opinion ngl

nitefox ,

Probably they understood that they couldn’t realistically check every new and old game out there and that people could patch games themselves, so it would be kind of misleading and pointless. Just like SteamDeck now: you get the “not-compatible” warning with working games that don’t have a nice starting UX but that works just fine

nitefox ,

There is a decky plugin for that already tbf

nitefox ,

Downvoted for saying the truth. Most cyclist I met here are absolutely jerks, they drive not even on the sidelines - no, they fucking drive in the mid of the road and if you try to surpass they move to the left.

For some it’s not their fault they are a bit of a nuisance obviously (those who cycle near the sidewalks, who signal were they are going etc), the cyclist infastructure is non existent here

nitefox ,

I’m trans, I hate talking about gender stuff

So yeah, they never did

The solution to corruption is to stop being human. There, I said it.

nitefox ,

That goes for anything, every system ever made by humans. Even the first forms of democracy, including direct democracy, falls under this umbrella. After all in the theory-world, where everything is ideal, humans do behave good so communism (but any form of good government is possible, even anarchy or a good autocracy).

In the real world, though, humans behave like humans so you get corruption and weird power play. So even if you got a nice working system where every human support society, it will inevitably fail under corruption after the first generations of those who put in place such a system die; which is exactly what happens throughout history each time, even in Athens.

Tldr: theoretical perfect system cannot exist in practice since we are flawed creatures

nitefox ,

Lucifer was kinda right ngl

nitefox ,

Like ancient Athens! It failed obviously.

Or like Ancient Rome! It failed, obviously.

Or like any modern democracy! It failed, obviously.

The problem is that “masses” are truly a reflection of their government and vice versa, more so in a democracy. You take for a given “the mass” takes good decisions but this, again, works only in the ideal world.

And if you think things are better than the past, think again: internet and social media spread so much crap and allowed people to talk too freely, so now you get Joe the Farmer believing he is some sort of genius cause he knows that there is big plot and the corps are covering it up; you get Dalila the economist believe she knows anything about software development; you get Dario the cheese eater believe he is a medievalist just because he read (and ate) “the cheese and the worms”. And all of this people wouldn’t give shit about the “so-called” experts, cause they studied it on eatashit.altervista.org so they must know better than the college-cuck

nitefox ,

I don’t disagree with you but how do you prevent misinformation, manipulation and polarisation?

What do you think about the Gemini protocol?

For those, who do not know what the Gemini protocol is, think of it as a modern, light-weight HTTP alternative without CSS or JavaScript. In layman term, you could see it as Web 1.0 reinvented. It uses GemText instead of HTML. For folks who want to try it out, you can either install a Gemini extension for your HTTPs browser...
