I’m just a weird, furry, pan guy (cis he/him). I also have a big, blue username.

I’m learning Japanese so sometimes I might write something out in romaji just to practice. Please correct it if it’s wrong!

I agree that these people did a crime.

I just don’t think their crime should be illegal.

So… I read this like the food pyramid right? Meaning I should use a lot of name calling and ad-hominem, and use refuting the point sparingly? 🤔

I’m so used to blocking ads that I sometimes forget they even exist and am always shocked when I see people who don’t use adblockers.

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I never removed Vanced and it still works, it’s just not maintained anymore so someday in the future it may not, when YouTube changes enough that makes it unable to function.

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Having experienced it myself back in the wild days of the net before I discovered ad blockers, they were so omnipresent that you just kinda ignored them. Like noseblindness making you ignore a smell you’re used to, but when other people come in your home they ask you wtf that smell is.

Any idea why my SMS text messages containing links aren't being received by group chat participants?

So this is a weird thing I noticed recently: Whenever I send a group text to my siblings, if the text contains a link, they don’t receive the text. But they can get my group texts without links, and they can get messages with links if I send only to one person....

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I’ve been having the same issue recently. I also have it switching from MMS to “RCS” and I don’t even know what that means. There is no setting for this RCS protocol in my messenger app or general phone settings, but whenever it’s using it, I don’t receive texts and nobody else gets mine.

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I see… Everyone on my contacts probably doesn’t have RCS, and that’s messing with me. They’re all on old-ass hardware and not even able to get the newest Android version.

There’s a whole instance dedicated to porn.

The one I am on (Yiffit.net) has lots of furry porn.

Sort by New Comments if you wanna go back to the way old forums work where new posts and posts with new comments get pushed right to the top and decay based on getting pushed down by other new and active topics of discussion. If you do it while browsing All, you will always see the hottest topics that are active.

I do find it weird how so many people for both claimed their accounts were suspended or banned for not using a real name, when I never gave them my real name and have kept both of those accounts the entire time without issue. Maybe it’s because I don’t actually use Facebook; but I still use a lot of Google’s shit because there isn’t anything better yet.

This was the first thing I assumed would happen when they announced the API pricing. A lot of spam prevention and deletion is done by bots that use the API, made by people that likely can’t pay the new exorbitant fees to keep those going.

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

They’d only show up if someone on the instance started subscribing to them, if I have understood how that all works correctly. And who would do such a silly thing?

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Idk he sounds pretty reasonable to me and is specifically not lumping everyone into the same group as you are. Not everyone shares your opinion. Not everyone cares enough. I think the individual should be able to decide for themselves, and the ability to block an instance yourself is something desperately needed over this kind of wanton shutting out of things only some people are against.

I’m conflicted by this because the other day, I saw one of these with LGBTQ+ flags and not the typical American, Mexican, Rattlesnake or Trump 2024 flags.

Still, it was on a giant truck clearly not for working on a farm or hauling anything but ass and those giant flags are obnoxious no matter what they are signalling.

Only 6? Really? I’m pretty sure /r/piracy existed and had more users than that in 2011.

Shit… I could be one. I got banned from /r/Gaming around that time just for telling someone what specific .BIN file to search for to get their playstation emulator running, despite others mentioning the same thing and their rules only saying you can’t post links.

Why are people against big companies joining the fediverse?

Tl:dr: Perhaps I am just uninformed on the issues, but I don’t see what the big deal is with a company like Meta joining the fediverse. If anything, I think it is a very good thing, as it puts more attention and dev time into making it a more functional and better place. So what is the issue?...

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I’m guessing when that happened, there were also far less users on the fediverse.

Eternal September was coined by a small group of college students using closed network systems at their school; not by public Usenet forums. The name comes from the influx of new users every September that would have to be taught the culture.

The fact it was recommended more, and doesn’t require an invite like Tildes. I only heard of any of these because of the migration, and only heard of Kbin here on Lemmy.

I wanted to try Tildes after seeing the page, but I have no friends there to invite me to try it.

Doesn’t Mirrors Edge have a forced tutorial at the beginning and it literally requires you to pick up a gun at some point? 🤔

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I also played that game by killing everything I saw; I just happened to also stumble into the fact that if you aim down while using the knife, it can one shot anything you hit. So it was easy af. lol

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

The best way to level up in New Vegas is doing the powder ganger glitch right at the beginning of the game.

Basically if you do the first quest in good springs with Ringo and the powder gangers in a specific way, you can keep turning the quest into the powder ganger leader dude indefinitely. Max out your entire character in like 15 minutes.

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Yes and no.

Everything still has a minimum level. Alduin being the final boss is still pretty high level at his lowest level. Same with the Dragon Priests. Those dudes are almost impossible when you’re less than level 10.

If you just did the MQ and nothing else, even if you kill everything in your path during the dungeons, you’ll barely have leveled. You won’t level at if you just run through everything!

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

That was added in an update, cuz I remembering having the same experience when I got the game at launch.

Now because I had gotten used to that, I see the move timer as a challenge to wipe out all the chrysalids before we all die to an airstrike. 😏

Kolanaki , (edited )
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I have a similar experience with Quake’s final boss. It’s the only thing in the entire game you don’t kill by shooting. Took me 3 freaking days to figure it out.

It’s stupid as hell because it’s like the easiest thing to do, but no game had anything remotely like that, and it wasn’t a mechanic shown to the player at all in SP (if you don’t know you have to telefrag the boss by jumping into a gate when a purple spikey thing flying around the room clips through the boss).

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I understood it in BOTW, but it was still frustrating to pull off compared to just stocking up good weapons and beating them with it.

TOTK, on the other hand, is hella fun. Now instead of having to string together odd mechanics to maybe make funny stuff happen, I can build a flying fortress of doom that drops bombs and shoots lasers. It also kills them way faster than going in and fighting them normally.

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I played Pokemon games against other kids in battles, and I also never saw merit in the status effects. If it didn’t deal damage, it was just a waste of a move.

Now, my experience is solely from the original Red/Blue generation so maybe they’ve gotten a bit more complex, but the first games were shallow af.

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

The regular zombies and the dogs. Not the bosses. At least, I don’t remember… I saved my ammo for them, but that could have just been because I wanted to shoot them lol

“I liked them ironically. As a joke.”

I think the average person just simply doesn't care about their privacy.

In some of the music communities I’m in the content creators are already telling their userbase to go follow them on threads. They’re all talking about some kind of beef between Elon and Mark and the possibility of a boxing match… Mark was right to call the people he’s leaching off of fucking idiots.

Kolanaki , (edited )
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I was always taught to keep my real life off the internet so my thoughts on privacy as it pertains to the Internet largely are irrelevant. They’re going to profile my online persona; not me, the real human being behind the keyboard.

Of course part of that includes not giving my real name even if they ask, and not using apps that are really egregious in the data they collect (like with the app permissions Threads requires).

I am for data collection to a certain degree. Using it to target ads may be kinda cringe, but I don’t see it as evil. Collecting usage data to improve the thing I am using is also okay. The data I don’t want collected is, like, my name. My address. My phone number. My bank info. Etc.

Kolanaki ,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Isn’t that what an aggregate site is meant to do? Filter content from other sources into user curated lists, ranked by users voting on them, thus creating a community of discussion unique to the platform?

Kolanaki , (edited )
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

If they defederate from other instances, they just means Threads users won’t see those instances. Those instances will still see Threads content, if they want. The content is also shared across instances this way, so their servers largely don’t matter. Whenever Lemmy.World or Yiffit.net is down or having problems, I just bop over to Kbin and it’s like those other two instances never actually dropped out since I can still see and interact with their posts.

I don’t see how in any way shape or form Threads can or will fuck up the entire fediverse when even if they have a majority of the users, their content gets spread around the whole network and doesn’t stay on shit they control.

And if you’re worried about their app collecting data: then don’t fucking use it. Unless you think their app, on someone else’s phone, will collect YOUR data somehow, this is a completely bullshit argument.

relating to, reviving, or being the styles and especially the fashions of the past : fashionably nostalgic or old-fashioned

Imitation is just one kind of retro. Actual old stuff is also retro. It also means to go backwards, or regress.

Don’t just go by the singular definition Google gives in their dumbass blurb. Look in an actual dictionary.
