Being the only person on my instance subscribed to certain communities on other instances, I am pretty sure it is a federation issue. When I look at the comment counts for the same post on two different instance accounts, they are not the same. They often share the same comments, but not all of them. Sometimes the number shown below the post reflects only the comments from the instance you’re viewing it on, sometimes it shows all of them.

For example, looking at the Baldur’s Gate 3 community on Lemmy World when logged on to Lemmy World, the top post has about 36 comments but counting them in the post there are only 30. 3 of those comments are mine, and they aren’t being shown to my Lemmy World account. When I view it from Yiffit, only my 3 comments appear, while it also says there are 36 total. According to the subscriber count, I am the first person on Yiffit to subscribe there, and that was about an hour ago.

I agree there. This comic implies that both observers are correct because they are looking at the same thing from different angles; but that’s not how most political issues are. It doesn’t matter what your perspective on human rights is. If your perspective says human rights are not good: you’re wrong. It’s more akin to two people looking at the exact same thing, but one of them has glasses on that make them see ghosts and goblins that aren’t really there.

Looking at what games I’ve always liked: this has always been true. Back in the 90’s, most of the big companies now were like 4 dudes in a garage and they had passion.

Now a lot of the names I once respected are scam artists and jackasses and a lot of the companies sold to bigger companies who then gutted them, stripped the IPs they consumed of any value, and turn greatness into shit.

Liftoff has been my daily driver for Lemmy after trying all the other Android apps that are available.

I see no downsides to the idea of federation at all. All the downsides that exist on the specific platforms can be fixed or addressed; there is no inherent flaw in interconnectiveness of various sites/platforms/models, and that’s all the “federation” is: various sites connected together sharing content.

What federated software would actually make sense to work offline, though? Everything I’ve seen is literally internet tools like social media (forums, blogs, chats, etc). None of those things would work offline. Is there, like, a federated paint or word processing app or something?

What is the reason for the image of a camera to look further away than the same scene through my own eyes when I have the camera arms length away and closer to the thing I'm looking at?

So I’m sitting here looking at a black widow on my porch and it’s a big fat fucker. I wanted to take a pic but I don’t want to get too close. Yet the image my camera picks up looks like I am trying to snap the pic from the opposite wall of the porch when I’m only about 2 feet from the spider. Why is that?

On one hand, I can kind of agree and see Sony having the courtesy of having PS3 available to stream if you have access to the classics catalogue. But it sucks it’s an extra service you must pay for, and that Metal Gear Solid 4 isn’t on there. (Though that last bit may be Konami’s fault, not Sony’s).

I can’t agree that they are garbage games, but I also don’t see why BB is so hyped either. I finally got to play it and I was rather disappointed in it’s level design and direction. It is the most confusing of the games. I ended up finding most of the secrets just trying to find the main progression, which, IMO, isn’t a good thing. I shouldn’t be finding all the secret stuff before finding the main stuff.

Sorting by new or new comments does not usually result in seeing the same post across multiple instances all bunched together like this. This is what you’d see sorting by Hot or Active or just looking at your subscriptions when youre subscribed to multiple communities centered around the same topic.

I have been sorting by New Comments since a week into using Lemmy and even though I am subscribed to multiple duplicate communities, I rarely if ever see two of the same exact posts side by side. Those I do tend to be posted by the same user in the same short amount of time.
