I’ve grown accustomed to dates in this format, because of software engineering. Yesterday I had to write out MM/DD/YYYY on some paperwork, and it broke my brain for a good 30s trying to remember the format.
Best way to write the date. Year then month then day using numbers. Allows for easy sorting in computer for people and also no gets confused like they do in other systems. It’s an international standard handled by the ISO group
it also just make sense, we already put the more significant number on the left side when writing numbers anyways. MM/dd/YYYY is more like writing one hundred and twenty three as 231

Not to hide it from anyone, I don’t live with my mother anymore and I don’t think my SO would care. More so that when I google something, I don’t get porn auto complete entries in my everyday browsing.
I’m fully aware that my traffic is able to be monitored by my ISP (at least to the extent that there’s a connection that exists. HTTPS is still not capable of being easily decrypted), and my DNS is resolving the address for the porn sites, and that Google (or whatever search engine) is logging that the search happened… Or that the sites see my connection, from my IP, and know what I watched.
My only objective is that they can’t link that to my normal browsing or accounts.
You know all those “share on”… Twitter/Facebook/whatever links? When they load, from Facebook, it asks the referer URL, and checks the browser for any cookies that might associate that browsing to a person for ad customization. Incognito isolates that information, so while Facebook/X(Twitter)/whoever may know that someone went to that URL, they have no cookie data to link it to a person uniquely, so they have information that the site was visited, but no idea who visited the site since any session cookies I have for those services are in my non-incognito browser.

I mean, this is a little outdated by today’s practices. Any ad tracker worth their salt will be using browser fingerprinting as well.
Imagine this scenario: You have a user with a specific browser, with specific extensions installed, (which you can derive from the fact that your ads are getting blocked by a specific ad blocker, they have the “Do Not Track” flag enabled, you have a nice monitor with a large aspect ratio and you’re browsing in full screen so the site can see that aspect ratio, etc…) from a specific IP address. In normal browsing, this user has a tracking cookie so your “share on Facebook” buttons can see what sites they’re visiting.
But now you’re seeing an identical browser, with identical extensions, on an identical IP address. But this time it doesn’t have your tracking cookie. Sure, there’s the chance that two people are using identical settings. But as your extension list grows and your browser becomes more unique, your fingerprint becomes more easily identifiable. So now, even without that tracking cookie, they’re able to use that fingerprint to infer that you’re the same person and link your incognito browsing back to your regular browsing.
Except by default, extensions are not enabled in Incognito mode unless you specifically tell your browser to allow it.
On top of that, if a browsers incognito has the same browser ID of the non-incognito version, that’s probably not good. I would expect a browser to randomize any unique information like that when launching a private window.
So all you’ve got, as a savvy tracker, is the same aspect ratio, which, big deal, not like there’s a huge selection of monitor sizes, and the same IP address, which, again, big deal, since any one client IP can have an almost unlimited number of users behind it.
You can presume it’s the same person, but bluntly, that’s a wild guess. It could be a visitor, or a different user logged into the same computer or another computer at the same location with the same (or at least a similar in resolution) screen. It’s honestly a crapshoot. Assuming that’s the person you know accesses your site from that IP is a bit of a stretch.
Any tracking cookies created in an Incognito or private window are going to get shredded when the window is closed, as long as the browser is doing what it’s supposed to do.
I use it to browse products and content that I dont want in my ad profiles. Like, sometimes I’d like to take a look at what my resident right wing nut case posted, but without having the ad brokers think that I need an AR15 and a Trump bible.
Well, having the office was nice because I like my colleagues. I’m lucky in that regard though, and as nice as it was to socialise at work, working from home is nicer. I personally like it too, but not daily. I average 1-2 days in office now and it’s healthy for me. See my coworkers, they know my name, we catch up, have our meetings, then I go home for a few days again. I’ve just learned everyone is different, and the company definitely shouldn’t be telling people how to work, people are grownups and can decide themselves. (And if they can’t, then fire them instead of punishing everyone).

Passenger trains can only operate efficiently in areas of extremely high population density. If I’m living somewhere serviced by trains, then everywhere I go, I’ll be in a crowd.
I’m enough of an introvert that this sounds like an extraordinarily uncomfortable proposition. I’d need an exorbitant financial benefit to even consider it, and that’s not going to happen. Instead, I’m expected to pay a very high premium for the “privilege” of being miserable everywhere I go.
I suspect those are mostly outposts. Rail junctions. Water stops for the old steam trains. Remote mining towns. Places that either provided services to railway operation, or primarily needed freight service rather than passenger.
And I agree: I would love to live in a small railroad town. But I would move out long before that town had enough people to justify commuter rail service.
Some people don’t have the space at home to set up a working area and really want to just go to an office that their employer pays for, and that’s fine.
This, and I do a lot of gaming on my pc, have a nice setup etc, usually not great trying to work there (don’t have space for another desk and can’t really justify having two sets of monitors, keyboard etc
Why do you need all that? I have my work laptop sitting at the back of my desk. Most monitors have two inputs. I've got an older 1080 with HMDI+DVI and a newer 1440p with DP/2xHDMI.
So I have the laptop in HDMI on both screens (it needed a USBC to HDMI cable for one of the outputs), and a simple USB3 switch for the mouse+keyboard.
So when I'm working I fire up the laptop, switch the USB over to that and swap the screens to the HDMI inputs. When I'm done working I can fire up the desktop, swap inputs and USB and in seconds I'm switched over.
I've been doing it this way for years and years now.
That’s normally what I do, the problem is the context for me, I sometimes prefer just sitting across the room with a laptop so I’m in a slightly different environment
It can help draw a line I'd agree, but I've gotten used to it now I think. I used to have it worse. I operated out of the bedroom for the first few years I was remote and that wasn't good at all. The new house had a bedroom that was really too small to be a bedroom. So it became an office room.
I don’t know in other countries but it is working quite well in France, you can get a subscription to the closest working space and have a desk, meeting rooms … To work remotely.
I like that it gives a separation between home and work but without long commute.
I imagine there are ways and means of obfuscating / anonymizing the dots such as blocking the printer from emitting them (e.g. an empty yellow cartridge that the printer perceives as full), modifying the firmware, using a burner printer, or using a mono laser jet.
As a side issue, most modern bank notes have a bunch of yellow circles integrated into the design on each side. They look random but they’re in a recognisable pattern called a constellation that enables devices like copiers / scanners to recognize when people are trying to copy money or other financial instruments like checks.
I used an app called zfont 3, has a few workarounds for different manufacturers
What it did on my old phone was have me set a store downloaded font, make a backup of settings, uninstall the font, then it installs the new one with the same name and restore the backup

This is what a lot of power does to humans, it corrupts, makes one view those with less power as less of a human being. There shouldnt be any absurdly powerful people.
