Yeah there is: not breaking all your internal traffic when the wan link goes down and you lose your prefix.

zurohki ,

That’s what temporary privacy addresses are for. Clients can just keep generating new addresses in your /64, which is it’s own subnet.

zurohki ,

You’re not supposed to use fc00::/8, so it’s just the fd00::/8 half that’s the new ULA.

dearrow.ajay.app

DeArrow is an open source browser extension for crowdsourcing better titles and thumbnails on YouTube. The goal is to make titles accurate and reduce sensationalism. No more arrows, ridiculous faces, and no more clickbait.

It’s also possible to have voltage issues on a device with multi-cell batteries.

My laptop charges on a type-C charger, but only if it can get 15+ volts. If it’s a 12V charger, that isn’t enough to push a charge into its battery. It will run on 12V but won’t charge at all, even if it’s off.

The UK has spent 12.5 billion pounds on Ukraine in the last 28 months, which at around 5.4 billion per year is 0.4% of the UK’s budget. That’s not an elephant in the room, it’s a mouse under the fridge.

It’s not being mentioned because it isn’t significant. The downvotes are because obvious disinformation is obvious.

They could always tax the rich, but sure, let’s pretend that the only possible option is the one that helps Russia.

There’s a reason why that government is polling so low that it may not even be the opposition in two weeks.

zurohki ,

I know whenever I try to help someone with a Linux issue it’s always an uphill battle to get them to stop guessing what they think the problem might be and show me the logs.

People really don’t want to give you the information you need to help them.

zurohki ,

You’d think so, but the logs often contain a ton of noise along with the one line that tells me what the actual issue is.

zurohki ,

Headline is dumb. If capacitors are better at being batteries than batteries are, they just become the next generation of batteries.

zurohki ,

It also calls all the customers who don’t want to be locked out of the product they paid for ‘fickle’ and brought up gamergate out of nowhere, so I’m honestly not sure what sort of agenda they’re pushing.

zurohki ,

IIRC VLC on Windows uses it’s own included ffmpeg libraries for decoding so you don’t need to mess around with Windows codecs.

zurohki ,

That’s double-plus ungood wrongthink, citizen. Report for re-education.

zurohki ,

This. Removing the $200 Android tablet from the dash isn’t going to make cars suddenly $5,000 cheaper.

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

I mean, that works well enough to go to space, so why can’t it get you to the store?

zurohki ,

Well, Nvidia initially didn’t intend to support Wayland at all. They’re being dragged into it kicking and screaming, one step at a time.

zurohki ,

I’d argue that if pushing the brakes hard can blow up the brake lines, they already needed fixed.

You guys have to fill in numbers? The Australian Tax Office pre-fills your tax return with the data they get from your bank and employer, so most people can do it in 5 minutes by clicking next a bunch of times.

I think we’re going to see major NPCs get their dialog hand-written and background characters get AI dialog.

You could have random shopkeepers ramble on for hours about how their kids are doing in school or trouble they’re having with a delivery company or whatever topic. Nobody’s going to write that, but we could AI generate it.

zurohki ,

“There are a lot of results that aren’t what you’re looking for.”

Okay, great?

zurohki ,

If there’s something really important on that disk, don’t do ANYTHING, just unplug it and hand it over to a data recovery company.

If there isn’t anything really important on there, go ahead and try and do it yourself.

Paying $100 to a data recovery company can save you a ton of headaches if it has the only copy of your thesis on there and you mess it up trying to fix things yourself.

zurohki ,

Depends on what they actually need to do. When it’s a drive that’s working and they just have to image it and run some recovery software it should be pretty cheap.

Clean room repair of dead hard disks is a different story.

zurohki ,

I wrote a bit of python earlier, do I have to send you a cheque?

Closed as a duplicate of another issue.

The other issue was closed as off topic.

GNU Parallel works well for this kind of thing. A lot of audio stuff is single threaded, so unlike video transcoding running multiple conversions simultaneously is a useful thing to do. The command is simpler, too:

parallel ffmpeg -i {} {.}.opus ::: *.m4a

Some people don’t have the space at home to set up a working area and really want to just go to an office that their employer pays for, and that’s fine.

Filling the paper tray with US Letter sized paper. If you aren’t in the US, you don’t use it and might not even be able to buy any.

I switched my laptop to Wayland about three years ago. AMD graphics, normal DPI 60Hz screen, doesn’t really do more than run a web browser.

My gaming desktop needed more of those troublesome edge cases hammered out - freesync in xwayland, app DPI scaling in xwayland, etc. I only switched it last year.

zurohki ,

It’s more expensive than solar, wind and batteries, though. Not just coal or gas.

Unlike a lot of sovvy incantations, asking for proof of debt is something that’s reasonable and can work. Just not when you try it on the government.

zurohki ,

Oh, he knows whether or not he owes the debt. The point is, debts get traded between debt collection agencies and sometimes they can lose the paperwork. So then when you challenge them to show proof they can’t find any and can’t keep chasing you. If they do have proof then you aren’t really any worse off.

Again, not something that will work in this guy’s case, but it’s not an insane thing to attempt.

zurohki ,

IIRC they use the discharging debt one to discharge debt that other people hold over them. So they borrow money and then try to forgive their own debt.

Explicit sync Wayland protocol has finally been merged! (gitlab.freedesktop.org)

Since nvidia drivers do not properly implement implicit sync, this protocol not existing is the root cause of flickering with nvidia graphics on Wayland. This MR being merged means that Wayland might finally be usable with nvidia graphics with the next driver release....

zurohki ,

I’d argue the root cause was Nvidia insisting that X11 was the future, they’d never support Wayland, and refusing to participate in any of the design processes. As a result when they got dragged kicking and screaming into supporting Wayland, nothing that had been developed without Nvidia suited their hardware or drivers.

They first tried to throw their weight around by forcing EGLStreams on everyone, failed, and they’ve been scrambling to catch up ever since.

zurohki ,

Hey, have you guys heard about this Linux thing?

zurohki ,

This. I once sat in stationary traffic for an hour and a half because a truck rolled over on a major highway. Nowadays I put my destination into Waze and if the best route is a long detour I just turn the car off and go back inside.

Polestar Joins Tesla in Departure from Auto Lobby Over Proposed Vehicle Efficiency Standard (www.infoterkiniviral.com)

In a bold move echoing Tesla’s recent decision, Polestar, the renowned Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced its departure from a prominent auto industry lobby. This withdrawal reflects growing discontent with the lobby’s opposition to a crucial proposed vehicle efficiency standard, seen as pivotal for...

zurohki ,

Every other country already has similar standards, though. So they don’t need to design anything new, they can just actually start selling those cars in Australia instead of their obsolete junk that can’t be sold anywhere else.
