Aside from hard science and engineering degrees where the technical knowledge is a foundation for what you’ll learn in industry, a college degree is simply a piece of paper that says “I received a balanced education and have my life together enough to focus, manage time, and complete tasks reliably for 4 years straight.” Rarely do you ever use most of the knowledge you gained in college besides the aforementioned life management skills.
Eh. There’s more to it than like you need a degree to become a doctor, lawyer, psychologist etc. It’s just that you need to have a well layer out plan and a good understanding of what your strengths and weakness are. Unfortunately, in the US there’s a massive emphasis on getting into college right after high school where people barely know what they want nor have any real world experience. In Ireland there’s a scheme there’s a thing called a mature student where its basically encouraging people 23 or older to go into college. Like courses will have spots reserved for them and the like.
What do the kids do in the meantime? I understand it’s a lot to throw a “kid” into university, but it’s often done so they can get a career and start contributing to retirement and building wealth.
I mean it’s also impractical to have a family without some career so that gets put on hold too. Or worse they have kids and have to go to school at the same time.
I’m not saying everyone should go to college, but just defending the reasoning for those that do why they go as young as they do.
Right, and without it the only thing you’re qualified to do is work shit blue collar jobs and live out of your car. That is, if you were lucky enough to buy one before they became unaffordable.
Working in the AEC firm, I can absolutely confirm that engineering degrees teach you almost nothing you’ll do on the job. The disconnect between college and work in engineering not only exists, but is far, far larger than anyone may think.

And yeah, absolutely. So many EITs, engineers, and even PEs live in CADD which is not taught nearly enough in the curriculum. Also, computer literacy is not emphasized enough, IMO. Every engineer these days works with computers, especially in Excel. Additionally, a lot of engineers especially don’t have people skills enough to effectively coordinate with all parties involved in their roles; it would be great to get some of that experience in mock PM situations or something during school. That all has to be taught on the job.

This is actually where the Greek system and student clubs are supposed to do this work. The best way to learn PM skills is by managing projects. You aren’t going to get that in a class unless you are working on group projects. You get that by running a club or putting together a campus event.

Where? I can think of one that had a university satellite campus for a handful of programs. But those were the only 4 year degrees and they were still through a university and had university pricing.
University is meant to be higher level and teach you soft skills. Academics also aren’t supposed to be the only thing you do, but participating in clubs and sports is supposed to give students experience in leadership to make them better leaders when they graduate.
It is supposed to be a civilian version of officer candidate school.

It’s the comic sans of art movements. It works really well for what it was designed for (eye-catching, inoffensive, and simple) but its both overused and misused in enough places that people have soured on it over the years.
This meme hurts me physically every time it gets reposted. It is not a complete picture of anything, it’s just easy to make people thoughtlessly accept stories if they shit on Elon, who to be clear deserves it. Those two guys were the first guys who started Tesla to bring the work of AC Propulsions to market. They are first and foremost tech millionaires (now quite likely billionaires) and do not deserve idolization either. The engineers of AC Propulsion ie Wally Rippel who also helped design the EV1 are the ones who actually made the technology happen.
The Tesla guys had the idea to put the tzero concept and tech into production shoved into a Lotus Elise and to market it to silicon valley investors as essentially a tech company. Elon was the main investor who went for it, also after speaking to AC Propulsion about putting the tzero into production. The rest is pretty well documented history of Elon being a huge asshole who accomplished very little if anything off his own merit while pushing out everyone around him.
But as far as “These are the real founders of Tesla” goes, the only things they did on their own was suggest AC Propulsions to put the tzero into production a bit sooner than Elon and deciding to create a tech startup to license the tzero technology and put it into a Lotus and style it as a tech company. If you want to inform people of the real heroes behind the electric car and Tesla, teach people about the tzero, AC Propulsion, Wally Rippel, and the other engineers who made the battery electric vehicle a feasible reality.
Perhaps, but the point stands that the specific thing called “Tesla” was founded by these guys, and Musk went through quite some headaches to be retconned as a founder of that thing, so it’s on point to drive it home that he wasn’t even that.
Fair point that “Tesla” isn’t really the great brains behind the original core tech, but that’s not the feather in the cap that Musk was going for, so it’s a bit moot toward the end of undermining his status of “founder” of Tesla.
More, “let’s shit on rich assholes that pretend to invent shit that they had nothing to do with.” Edison at least may have had one original thought with the incandescent light bulb filament, but even that one is debatable. Musk is just another rich fuck, like Edison, that has come along to buy and claim credit for tons of shit he never even tangentially thought of.
This meme isn’t about who invented the technology though. Everyone with 0.25 of a brain knows business majors break out in hives when they get that close to actual work. This meme is about who founded the Tesla Motor Corporation, and who demanded credit for having done so despite having done nothing except show up with gobs of money once their business strategy was already proven.
The business strategy wasn’t remotely proven though, it was still just an idea, no part of the car was designed yet. It was two people who had no idea how to design a car doing the groundwork to start a company working with Lotus and AC Propulsion and then a few months later it was three with Ian Wright lending some business work with the relationship between Lotus and AC Propulsion, then a few months later it was four with Elon who lent money and knew about as much about designing a car as the previous three, then a few months later it was five and they finally had a CTO at least.

Because Communist governments see any opposition to communism as a threat to their power, so they do not tolerate dissidence even if they claim to tolerate dissidence. It’s just another example of the paradox of tolerance.
It might not be opposition to communism the way Marx envisioned it, but it is absolutely opposition to communism the way communist governments have envisioned it
