HIPAA seems to be one of the rare laws that actually results in significant damages. Will be interesting to see the size of the fine on this.
Likely the hospital gets hit as well for allowing him access to medical records on patients he had nothing to do with. Shouldn’t have been possible in the first place.
This guy’s career is over. I’m sure he’ll do okay financially by selling ivermectin to bigoted dimwits, but I doubt he will be practicing real medicine ever again.
Correction: his career has changed. He will be taken in as a consultant in some right wing think tank and start shaping the direction of the movement, because he “took action”
I have yet to see a EHR that has access restrictions that would prevent this. Instead it’s just logged and if irregular enough you get to have a hostile conversation that could lead to this.
Edit:
Haim, a Dallas surgeon, previously had done some work at Texas Children’s Hospital as part of his residency. The indictment against Haim alleges that in 2023, he asked to reactivate his login there to access information on pediatric patients not under his care, including names, attending physicians and treatment codes, then turned over the information to a media contact.
Okay, that’s just dumb. Texas Children’s Hospital is going to get fucked over this. Not only did he not have admitting privileges, he didn’t even fucking remotely work there. This isn’t just a HIPPA violation, it’s straight up fraud.
Yeah when I read that I was like, so all I have to do to get medical records is call and ask? Like I don’t even have to have any affiliation apparently.
In my experience working hospital IT medical providers can get away with a lot more shit because people try to expedite things for them so they don’t have interruptions caring for patients. The places I worked had processes in place to prevent this sort of thing but I had a fuckload of arguments with various middle managers trying to bypass those when a provider bitched that they didn’t get what they wanted right away.
Yeah it sucked. Fortunately I’m pretty much immune to that shit when I have something in writing to back my position. They could call me every name in the book, I’m not giving them what they wanted. After awhile it gets kind of entertaining watching them twist themselves into knots when they just have to do what they’re told. Especially when they tried emailing my superiors and I could hit them with a reply all explaining in simple terms why I didn’t do what they asked and exactly what they needed to do to get it done and have my superiors just be like “yea do that”
Nono, his new career as a right wing mouthpiece is just beginning. He’ll be up on stage with MTG and Rittenhouse complaining about cancel culture and how woke has invaded hospitals and how you shouldn’t listen to doctors.
Multiple violations, because he released multiple patients’ info. Off the top of my head, I believe it’s up to $250k and 10 years per violation, but the jail time could be served concurrently instead of consecutively.
My entire career is based on “yeah but you’re good with computers and programming!” I just wanted to do fine arts and paint for fuck sake. And I could have made a career out of it, as history as since shown! Ah well. Maybe my kids will fare better, we’ll see.
I don’t know what client you’re using, but this displays correctly on lemmy-ui and Jerboa, and it matches the Lemmy markdown syntaxt as documented. I’d suggest requesting your client fix its renderer.
Using the 2014 Ferguson unrest as an example, they drive around in minority neighborhoods wrecking the streets, sidewalks and parks, whoop and hollar and lob CS-gas grenades willy-nilly so the whole neighborhood can’t breathe.
That is an MS Teams Room system in the conference room, it runs Windows IOT. Whoever manages those rooms should have set the working hours of the room so it didn’t apply this update during business hours. By default the system updates at 2 or 2:30 AM, I forget… so might be a weird MS bug or someone fudged up a config
Source - installed a lot of these a few years ago.
Hehe, denial of service for no reason beyond forced data collection is so quirky! Yeah, capitalism is squeezing the life out of modern culture, but in a fun way!
What?! Some sites have been going the route of buying without an account for some time now.. I hope people going "Hell nah" will make them rethink or shut down.
So people that don’t want accounts should be forced to get an account because they might be a bot (that, notably, can’t do anything without an account) so they can be filtered out and denied an account that they didn’t want in the first place? Do you really not see the issue with what you’re saying?
What the fuck were you doing with your life when Assassin’s Creed Black Flag came out? I pretty much rocked drunken sailor on repeat when sailing the seas.
But how are the corporations then supposed to keep ripping off their wage slaves by making them afraid to ask for more or organise out of some drummed up moral concern? Huh? Didn’t consider that, did ya? Won’t somebody think of the poor, poor corporations?
Wilt Chamberlain was putting numbers up too but he wasn’t wearing his 70s shorts and a headband to attract to women into the '90s.
Do you really think Mick Jagger can’t get laid unless he’s dressed like it’s Halloween and he’s going as himself? This is about reliving their youth and not being willing to accept the passage of time. I think you open yourself up to satire if you’re a public figure who has such glaring insecurities
I’m really not. If you read my original comment you’ll see I was speaking hypothetically about how I would dress in my 70s: i.e. for comfort and not to look appealing to the opposite sex. You made this a weird conversation about how much sex this guy is having and what other male celebrities they’re rumoured to have slept with
You missed the part where you were supposed to make a joke. The top of this thread is someone asking how I would choose to dress in my 70s. My answer being ‘not like Mick Jagger’ led to you getting in a huff about how much sex he’s had justifying his choices. It wasn’t a joke, but if that was the intention it was poorly executed. Not sure what anyone has to gain by being so defensive about a man who’s been world famous for about 6 decades, though
See now I see what you’re saying, but apart from certain designated places, most people don’t tend to like it when you walk the streets completely naked.
Depends how confident you are about it. I’ve known a few people over the years who could pull it off. They would leave everyone else wondering if they are overdressed!
I have a dead uncle because of these nonsense theories he refused to wear a mask, social distance etc. The inevitable happened and he passed from covid within a week. All because of anonymous people on Facebook who I will never meet, and will never suffer the consequences of their actions. Makes me so angry
A friends mom was snowboarding with her grandkids the year before covid. His sister, a pharmacist btw, warned their mom off the vaccine. Their mom caught covid and died. The vaccine would likely have saved her life.
Tens, no likely hundreds of thousands of people surely died due to misinformation and fear mongering.
It’s feel so rare reading all those stories on internet, while my family is crazy alt-right that eat all the communist conspiracies on the internet, except the ones referencing vaccines or climate change. Like every newborn baby on the family is “quarantined” until all vaccines are on (at least the ones from the first 6 months) so everyone’s following the vaccine calendar to mark when the baby’s is going to meet the rest of the family.
My friend died before he was able to get a vaccine dose. He was young and fit and healthy, enough so that his death was covered in a local newspaper. He’d have probably have gotten his first vaccine dose if we’d caught COVID a couple weeks later, and that might have been enough to save him. I’ll never know, and maybe he’d have still died, but I’ll always resent people who have/had the choice to be vaccinated but choose not to.
