His base won’t care, but we should. Ever conversation about that shit stain should include “oh you mean that guy that flew to Epstein’s island a whole lot, and had his name obfuscated on flight logs to hide his identity because he knew what he was doing was illegal and wrong?”

Just my opinions here:

  • I have essential services running on a separate computer, 8gb pi4 right now. Stuff like NetBoot.xyz, homepage, etc, lightweight and resource low but need to be always up. That way if your main server needs to go down, you still have those services running.
  • I have bought second hand enterprise equipment for most of the hardware I have. Basically anything with ddr4 and pcie 3 or above will crush most things you would like to do. Grabbing an intel with quick sync will help with Jellyfin, but you can add a graphics card for transcoding if you want, a quadro p2000 or higher will be fine. Building is a viable option as well, but you may spend more for less powerful but more efficient hardware.
  • software is probably the most controversial. I went with proxmox on my main server, giving me the ability to run whatever I want whenever I want. It’s not perfect, but gets the job done and has helped me learn A LOT. But flip a coin or roll a dice on what software to run as a newbie, it will all be a learning curve, and everyone will tell you why what they use is superior.

Whatever you do, you’re not wrong. Run things that tickle your fancy and move at your pace. You’ll mess up, step back and punt a lot. Remember to backup essential data before you wipe. Have fun, and good luck on your travels.

Georgia Republican convicted in Jan. 6 riot walks out during televised congressional primary debate (apnews.com)

A Georgia congressional candidate convicted of a misdemeanor for illegally demonstrating inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, walked out of a televised debate with a fellow Republican on Sunday ahead of a June 18 primary runoff....

Wow, four convicted criminals running as republican… sounds about right for the party of criminals. Guess since dad was convicted, you’re not a cool republican if you don’t have a rap sheet?

I’m sure a microscope on all appointments from the orange sandwich would come to the same conclusion…

snekerpimp ,

By being sarcastic? Sir, I’m not the one that should be doing something about it and is not. I am venting my frustration with the corruption by making a snide comment on how all of the people the baby man appointed are corrupt as well, by calling to look at all of his appointees for corruption as well. Not saying “oh well, guess it’s just the way it is”.

I’m lost… I fail to see how my outrage about this and how I express it normalizes it. I’ll make sure to keep my mouth shut when I’m outraged in the future to make sure I’m not perceived as normalizing. Fuck me

snekerpimp ,

This is exactly what I was thinking. There are plenty of smart people that work there that would have said something before release. They were told to not rock the boat by the yes men and now Microsoft has to backpedal and pretend no one there thought about THOSE implications.

The human race is so dumb. We could be building spaceships and exploring the stars and the depths of the oceans. Instead we are being manipulated by propaganda to fight with each other while nefarious forces wrestle for power. This timeline sucks….

He touches on my major issue with all these companies, data mining without compensating the people that created that data. I have to pay for the operating system, get served ads, AND you get to make extra money off my information too? This kind of shenanigans would be tolerable with a free OS, or maybe one that compensated you like brave browser. The blatant fleecing of the consumer here is sickening. I’m glad data mining your screenshots is the last straw for people.

How bout rocm support for your own inference cards? Got an instinct mi25 I can’t do a damn thing with because it’s the only instinct card rocm does not support.

snekerpimp ,

Picked up an AMD instinct mi25 to try and do just that. Can get easy-diffusion working after some cussing and voodoo. Cannot get rocm to do ANY llm of any kind, feels like a waste of video ram

Also have a tesla p4 that runs most text-to-image models rather well, but have been unsuccessful at any llm either, even oobabooga can’t seem to run on it.

Have given up because the software stack keeps advancing and leaving my hardware behind. I don’t have $3000 for an a100 or $1300 for an mi100 sooo… until the models can run on older/less powerful hardware, I’m probably sitting out of this game. Even though I’d love to be elbow deep in this one.

snekerpimp ,

It has been. I started in this because I liked picking up kick ass enterprise hardware really cheap and playing around with what it can do. Used enterprise hardware is so damn expensive now, it’s cheaper and easier to do everything with consumer products and use the rx6700 in my gaming rig. Just don’t want that running llms and always on.

Trump promised to scrap climate laws if US oil bosses donated $1bn – report (www.theguardian.com)

Donald Trump dangled a brazen “deal” in front of some of the top US oil bosses last month, proposing that they give him $1bn for his White House re-election campaign and vowing that once back in office he would instantly tear up Joe Biden’s environmental regulations and prevent any new ones, according to a bombshell new...

I don't know anything about Linux and the idea of installing it frightens me. Where do I start?

I bought a laptop yesterday, it came pre-installed with Windows 11. I hate win 11 so I switched it down to Windows 10, but then started considering using Linux for total control over the laptop, but here’s the thing: I keep seeing memes about how complicated or fucky wucky Linux is to install and run. I love the idea of open...

snekerpimp ,

Don’t install on your main rig over your main hard drive. Don’t obliterate your windows drive, that will ease a lot of the intimidation, knowing you can always go back. Getting a cheep laptop or thin client to try distros out on will elevate that intimidation as well.

Start with what you have heard of and have been recommended repeatedly, Mint, popOS, Ubuntu, all great distros to learn on, have great documentation.

Also, read the docs. They are dry and long, but will always have the solution.

Best Graphic card for Linux Gaming (lemmy.wtf)

Are they some graphic card benchmark for linux environment ? From my windows experience, drivers are important, and often underestimate. snekerpimp ,

Have always run AMD, and I have had 0 issues, from arch to fedora to Debian. Gaming, CAD, video editing, not once have I had to use anything other than the open source drivers that are bundled with the distro. I currently have a 6700xt running Debian, and the only games I have issues with are the ones that just came out where they are squashing bugs anyway. Three weeks later, it’s running better on Linux than windows.

DEA leader Anne Milgram dodges questions on Biden plan to deschedule marijuana [Anna Giaritelli | May 7, 2024 | Washington Examiner] (www.washingtonexaminer.com)

Marijuana would not be decriminalized or legalized, but such a move would be a grand step forward after decades of the federal government’s war on drugs and ease legal business surrounding the drug.

“Travel Mexico, where your tires are worth more than your life!”

snekerpimp ,

Three lives / five tires (including spare)? That’s .6 lives for a tire. So I guess technically your life is worth 1.2 tires.

snekerpimp ,

Then your would have to take the overall volume difference between the spare and the standard tires, but even if you don’t factor the spare, your at 3/4 so more like 1.25 tires per life… I think

snekerpimp ,

Have they reinstated the games back in the 177 countries they delisted it in? Can those people who paid for the game still play it?

snekerpimp ,

I completely understand where you are coming from. Not being knowledgeable about IT infrastructure and how to host game servers, I was making assumptions based on how publishers are shutting down games that have low play count. Assuming it was a nominal amount of money to house and maintain servers for a game that generates no revenue, multiple servers for 100s of thousands of players that generates zero revenue would be noticeable. But if it’s just pennies, then it really would just be a drop in the bucket.

Sony should hurt in the bottom line for this, and I don’t see them caring about reviews and refunds, they will just move on to the next fleecing method.

snekerpimp ,

I don’t see Sony caring about reviews and refunds, they are the publisher, they will let the developer be the fall guy, walk away smelling like roses and go on to the next method of fleecing gamers. Bottom line is all that matters. They made their money off on Helldivers, they could hit the kill switch right now and be up. I just don’t see this ending well for arrowhead, and I see this blowing over for Sony, not even a footnote. I hope I’m wrong, I really do.
