This is a dev kit. This is not for normal people to use. RISC-V is not there yet, but this is a good first step.

It does actually.

As a new, one year, software developer who retrained late. How do you know when you're ready to apply for a new role with more money?

As the title states. I’ve been a software developer for a year now and work for a tiny company, where the salary isn’t amazing. I got paid more at Apple Genius Bar, but it wasn’t as challenging....

One year is nothing.

Learn as much as you can from the people around you at your current position.

Find a new technology or existing one you want to improve/learn and create a project out of it that you can do at home.

Look for ways to improve your productivity.

Become a SME.

One day you will own a project, helping the new guy and be the person people come to if they have questions.

Put in the time. You’ll find your way.

I honestly don’t know anything about OSMV OSMC besides what I just read on their site.

Streaming services are gonna be an issue. I’m guessing you’re going to have to hope kodi addons are working. If you happen to find one that works, at best you will get 1080p, probably 720p depending on the service.

Everyone has their preferences. But ya just need to throw a Roku / Google / AppleTV behind it.

Everytime I’ve looked into it, it seemed like the technology just wasn’t there yet. I remember a few years ago Linus TT took a shot at it, but in the end suggested the technology (for non-commercial entities) just wasn’t in a comfortable spot yet.

I had a sever in my basement running proxmox ( actually ended up doing it all manually eventually ), with a windows gaming VM and handful of utility Linux servers in 2015? The only problem being Windows games using kernel level anti cheat.

I get it really comes down to GPU sharing and I think it’s doable on consumer GPUs now but I’m not sure about gaming. Honestly the tech has been here for a long time. But companies like NVIDIA held on forever to the GPU resource sharing features and kept it away from consumer cards.

I’m a bit older these days and have gone through many generations of hardware with a different setup. I keep two or more GFX cards on hand. Latest always goes to my workstation while last gen is thrown in my sever and used by all my docker containers. Then have an older Xeon with 24 bays that I use for storage.

I used to host bitwarden before switching to vaultwarden. Bitwarden’s documentation is pretty good and your question is easily found here:

bitwarden.com/help/hosting-faqs/#q-how-do-i-use-c…

Q: How do I use custom server ports?

A: To use custom ports, instead of 80 and 443, edit the http_port= and https_port= values in ./bwdata/config.yml and run ./bitwarden.sh rebuild to rebuild your server assets.

Check that the custom port values have been proliferated to ./bwdata/env/global.override.env.

Bitwarden has its own script to manage the containers. It’s not your typical self hosted app docker installation. What OP is looking for is easily accessible in their FAQ section of the documentation.

These apps are from their AppStore will not run with proton. If Microsoft decided to Xbox’ PC gaming, I think that would warrant concern.

Didn’t they do that already? I thought Microsoft offered low end Xbox with a subscription when they first launched gamepass?

US Lemmys what could Biden do in the next 6 months to EARN your vote? (other than just not being Trump)

Sorry this is kinda political. Is there an asklemmypolitics group this would be better for? I’m hoping not to get into the libs vs progressives political debate we see everywhere on here… Just want to know what people are actually looking for.

zelifcam , (edited )
@zelifcam@lemmy.world avatar

But I also understand the people who can’t bring themselves to vote for a guy supporting a genocide

If people have this view, then they should be even more concerned about a Trump second term. I’m sorry, this is unacceptable and it’s exhausting seeing it repeated on this platform. It shows a clear lack of understanding on how we’ve made progress in this country and a concerning misuse of emotion over critical thinking.

Modern governance has always been an uphill battle. Don’t throw away progress, as little as it may be. It’s still progress and gaining an inch every day is almost always better than going back a foot. It may take years to get that inch.

If we want change, start local and work up. Campaign for the people who see the world the way you do and fight for them. Organize. Not voting is by far one of the dumbest and most un-American thing you can do.

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

Spotify Connect

Unless I’m reading this wrong, is this just Spotify’s solution for listening with friends? If so, that’s far from a Spotify exclusive feature.

Edit: Okay. So it’s their version of Airplay. It’s too bad Apple never opened it up. Streaming to remote devices has works for almost 20 years now in the Apple ecosystem.

zelifcam ,
@zelifcam@lemmy.world avatar

The nice thing about Tidal is the attention to detail about the music or album you’re listening to. You get writers, producers and recording musicians for all the tracks. Sometimes additional Artwork.

Apple had the right idea all those years ago when they were selling those enhanced digital albums. Almost felt like purchasing a vinyl or cd and getting all the goodies that come with it. INCLUDING properly crediting the artists. Not sure they do that very well anymore.

tailscale.com/blog/docker-tailscale-guide

I used the above link to start on my project. I’m trying to add Tailscale service to my existing docker-compose files to forward all traffic on the primary container to an exit node. It works, but I’m not able to find a way to access the web apps on those containers that are forwarding their traffic. Looks like you are well beyond this guide.

Best of luck.

War is incomprehensible, horrific and incredibly heartbreaking. Israel has committed war crimes and it’s being broadcasted in real time.

Let’s start a discussion when Israel starts beheading babies, using their own children as human shields and purposely hiding behind their citizens with the intent of causing as many deaths of their own people as possible.

Where are all the articles asking why Hamas refuses to return the hostages?

unlike Reddit’s toxic communities where asking a question is illegal.

I agree Reddit is toxic. I’d argue reddit actually stopped being Reddit around 2016. But it’s posts like this that clog it all up and are partially why it is the way it is today. You didn’t even ask a question. You just posted a comment and said give me information. You don’t respond to anyone kind enough to ask questions to you,so they can get the slightest insight into what information may be useful to you. I don’t see anything about what you have already looked into. I see nothing about intention or use case. You mentioned something about a CPU? I dunno. I’ll take the downvotes but just because you say please and thank you doesn’t make your post any less of a waste of bits.

Maybe provide some info about your setup. Your requirements?

  • what are you trying to accomplish with a raid setup? Speed, storage or maybe redundancy?
  • what kind of drives are you planning on using? This can be a huge deal.
  • what’s your budget?
  • how many drives?
  • what kind of data? Large files? Tons of small files?
  • what kind of storage controller are you using?

There are a lot of tech people in lemmy who do storage and compute for a living, but they are going to need something from you. Don’t be like Reddit. Meet us half way.

BTW. I’ve worked with a lot of folks in tech over the years. All at different levels of experience. I don’t care what field you are in or what your expertise is…. the most newb move is not knowing how to ask questions. The rest is just work and time. Best of luck friend.

So, apparently shit post mods will just remove posts with positive upvotes without any mod mail or explanation.

As per title, submitted a post here that as far as I’m aware met all the rules, it had positive momentum before I went to bed, wake up and no post and no messages or notification that it was removed or why except that it’s just gone. Discuss.

new user to a new platform

Yeah. We’re all just starting here. These fedi apps are barely holding together. Techs been around for a bit but never this many users. We have a lot of work to do. Everyone from the devs to the hosters and the mods. Honestly maybe it is best to just walk away if you’re getting this upset.

So apparently youtube, or its comment system, is against the fediverse

Over the time new youtube videos crop up talking about reddit, twitch and twitter issues. And in those comment sections I always like to spread the word of alternatives (like the fediverse). But whenever I do, those comments get quietly removed even though they seem to be posted in the first place....
