I mean seriously! I can’t really understand why people must have such polarized and toxic reaction over some art performance. I get that this may not be for everyone, but just like the movies series before had mixed reaction, this live action Smurf Musical will find his fan base in time…

btw. what aboth dionysus?

YarrMatey , to nostupidquestions in Is this normal for girls or just a extreme edge case? (Serious question)

Most teens don’t want to put anything up there because it hurts, even tampons hurt as a virgin especially with 0 lube. I never liked regular dildos, most women do not orgasm through penetration. So I would say they are messing with you. I’ve had guys ask me if I ever experimented with pencils or rulers because if they were a girl they would do it. No, wtf only guys think women are like this.

cashmaggot ,

Yo, this is a real actual human person right here.

Men would be asking me the most heinous of shit and I literally had nothing to do with them. Like, what? I think things are better now, cause I'm older. But hot damn, the shit I was being asked if I reversed it I'd be like asking if when they are fucking a girl do they make sure to jizz on their face or some shit. Like wtf who the fuck asks this just sitting around talking to someone they just met or are (platonically, in a group) having some chow with!?

MutilationWave ,

Some people talk about sex freely. In college everyone in my friend group knew who all fucked who. My ex girlfriend made a drawing connecting everyone with lines. It was pretty damn funny.

cashmaggot ,

Oh for sure, I am stanky pirate but like - there's like talking about sex freely and being a homophobic dickweed. And growing up I got so many micro-aggresive bullshit homophobic shit-shit questions. But I am pretty different than some folks (personally) in which I don't fuck friends. Cause a lot of them are found family for me and they act as sisters, brothers, and the likes. And I ain't about that life. But I am friends with some of my exes. But it's not on that level. Like, I wish them well and am happy they're doing okay in their lives. Having a solid talk every now and then is cool. But I always figured exes are exes for a reason, and I'm not terribly close with any of them. Although, like I said I mean really - all the best to them as a whole.

My gal fucks her friends. She's like totally different than me. So I know different strokes for different folks. And it's not to say I didn't "get it in" or wasn't a raunchy pirate hooker. I just draw the boundary within my own existence and honestly I am pretty happy overall with the folks I have gotten the sweetness to carry with me thus far in life. And I hope that someday if/when I am old I still have at least some of them around.

I can't even remember what the person said up there. And the post so and such isn't showing it. But I think what I was seeing if I remember correctly was someone stating that it's not all about penetration (although it can be, and have at if that's your jam), it's not all about fucking (although yet again - if that's your priority - have at), but that there are some real sexual issues that hit folks with the female sex that could supersede the issue.

I also think you know probably a majority of people who responded were more than likely guys, and I saw this person - as someone who had to at least be female-sexed. I mean I don't know their life. But it sounds like that's whatsup. But it is an assumption, so like - at the end of the day I think I put person.

And I don't know your life, although I'm gunna assume you like The Pixies (=P) but lots of dudes over my lifetime and been putting their dick-brains (as in talking with their dicks) and harassing the fuck out of me whether I knew them or not all over the joint. The other stuff is straight homophobic, but I will say in general that most people who are female presenting in some way are gunna be harassed and that's what I am talking about.

My two sibbies stole butt-plugs from me at one point in my life. Do not like that. Found out much later. Had they come to me, I would have grabbed them anything they want. I was, and still am hella sex-positive. Only difference is that I am now in a long-term dedicated monogamous relationships and I have health issues that have overall affected my life in general so it's not like sex is my tippy-top "chase the cat" prerogative. More so I just want to stay as physically healthy as I can, so that I can have the best quality of life I can. So like, still get down. Do my thing. Have a great gay life. But I am older (not like so damn old, but def people aren't out here just crossing my boundaries like they are getting paid to) so I think that the guys are more chill, I live in a completely different area that anything else I've ever lived in before (which is less openly social as a whole so I don't think most guys are out here just cat-calling people anyways), and I feel pretty ambivalent on the whole sex scene outside of my bedroom because I don't have any skin in the game.

If any of that makes sense. Idk. But either way, it's all about whatever floats your boat. You know? But it's pretty funny though as a whole you saying what you're saying because I might be the least censored individual I have ever been around. Cause I am a real fuck-face. But it is what it is.

p.s. - I don't give a fuck what guys be doing, let alone heterosexuals as a whole with their sexual stuff. I'm happy if you're happy. But I literally never could give an actual fuck. Which might sound hetero-phobic - but by that I mean do you. Do I care? Nah. And I would love, love, love if people came at me with that energy instead of asking me stupid ass shit. That basically invalidated my sexual experiences.

kofe ,

Uhh. Hi, woman here…RIP my inbox but I think it’s important parents talk to teenagers of all genders about this and consider having them look for toys they can experiment with if they express interest. Just because we don’t orgasm from penetration doesn’t mean it feels bad lol. Better they have toys available so they’re less likely to use something inappropriate.

YarrMatey ,

I agree parents should talk with their kids, I never meant to allude to that. But I disagree that penetration doesn’t feel bad, for me it feels painful without lube and with lube it feels not painful but never enjoyable. Vibrators are the only thing that feels good, that much is universal among the women I’ve talked to.

kofe ,

Well, not that I think it has to be your experience by any means, that’s part of the beauty of life - we’re all a bit different and into different things. I do quite enjoy penetration without need for lube (I mean, I do need to have natural lube, obviously). I usually get myself there with just hands and might use a dildo when I’m worked up enough. Vibrators are great, no doubt. I don’t typically use toys, though, honestly. I did more in my teens when I was ignorant to how my body worked lol. Which is why I wrote the OG comment…I didn’t have appropriate toys, and it caused some shame on occasion. I knew it felt good but didn’t feel safe talking to my parents about it.

YarrMatey ,

Understandable. I was never into penetration and thought I was weird but after talking to more women and then reading Come As You Are, it clicked that I was actually normal and in the majority (80% are like me). Not that being in the minority is weird, if you read the book you’ll find that is actually normal too. I hate masturbation or sex without a vibrator lol. I never felt safe talking to my parents either, they were super religious and invaded my privacy regularly. I was an adult before getting toys, and everything sex related sucked before them.

kofe ,

My understanding is 80% of people with a uterus don’t climax from penetration, not that we find it necessarily unenjoyable (which is true for me, too; I do need clitoral stimulation to climax). I’ve taken courses on women’s studies, feminist philosophy, etc. to overcome the problematic religious attitudes my parents had, too - and lots of therapy! I’ll see if my library has that book available, though. I’m always interested in learning more.

I’m really sorry you had that experience growing up, though, that’s awful. As normal as our experiences felt to us having privacy invaded and all the shame, that much shouldn’t be normalized! I’m glad you’ve found what works for you, and I wish you all the most pleasurable experiences around it throughout the rest of your life 💝

YarrMatey ,

It feels like nothing but rubbing for me? Idk. But I definitely recommend the book. I’m not saying those 80% hate penetration, but it isn’t a big part. I know when I talked to my gyno about painful sex, she said use plenty of lube and orgasm before penetration. Very good advice in case anyone needs it.

I’m glad you found relief from the religious oppression. We need less shaming and better sex ed for everyone. Thanks for your wishes, I wish you the same!

kofe ,

Oh gotcha, I totally agree it’s not a big part at all! Honestly, I didn’t experience an orgasm until well after I became sexually active, and very rarely with a partner since. It’s extremely important to me as I’m back “on the market” now and have really struggled in past relationships with it. I enjoy the whole aspect to it, exploring whole bodies, but I would very much like to find a relationship where my partner prioritizes helping me climax and has some patience with me on it.

By chance, did you talk with your gyno about vaginismus? Not sure if I’m spelling that right, but I’ve had a few friends mention that it’s painful, one friend saying she couldn’t wear tampons or anything. I could see why orgasming first would help the muscles to relax

YarrMatey ,

Girl same, it took me a couple of guys and years before I had an orgasm. Luckily my current partner is very patient with me and I hope you find someone like that too. I feel like a lot of maybe younger or inexperienced guys just jackhammer a girl and then they’re done ugh. Sorry for misunderstanding you earlier, looks like we had much more in common than I thought! Judging by the down votes it looks like I said something offensive, and I just wanted to say sorry about that. This is just my experience.

I think I did ask about that and since she doesn’t have trouble inserting the speculum she said I didn’t have it. I use menstrual cups with lube just fine, although I do use a cup on the softer side.

arin ,

I’ve seen a girl use a syring (without the needle) and put a ziplock bag over it and fuck herself on cam with me. College teens are horny and creative lol

HappycamperNZ ,

We’re all horny and creative - seen one use a deodorant can… in the front of the car… while I was driving…and stuck in traffic.

Those of us who don’t live with parents just don’t need to get creative - just buy what you want, or want to try, or your partner wants to try. Three drawers committed to turning her into a sexy puddle.

Allero ,

Wow, you’re quite a connoisseur

Getting there myself. My girl deserves every piece of joy she can get, and I do too (hehe)

HappycamperNZ ,

I wouldn’t say connoisseur - it’s like they select fine wine and appropriate pairings after careful consideration. We’re more like “24 pack and a goon bag” and see where we end up. Never stop trying new things and exploring with someone you trust.

Allero ,

That’s pretty cool!

Yeah we have one such set that includes just about everything to spice things up. Not necessarily best grade stuff, but a nice starting point to figure out good directions!

BreadOven ,

Found the Australian? Or is it the states that use goon bag? I thought it was space bag in the states.

HappycamperNZ ,

Kiwi, but we use similar lingo.

BreadOven ,

Ah, sorry. I am not too well versed in the lingo over there (Aus or Kiwi). I based my entire comment off of a song (wingnut dishwashers union - Jesus does the dishes). The original lyric mentions space bags, but when the artist was in Aus he changed it to goon bags. Didn’t think I’d learn that much from a folk-pink song. Also worth checking out if you wanna hear someone playing acoustic guitar and yelling.

feedum_sneedson , (edited )

Girls experiment.

You can downvote me but my girlfriend literally did what you’re describing with a pencil when she was younger, I’m sure she’s not the only girl in the world to have done that.

YarrMatey ,

I’m not going to down vote you lol, I haven’t down voted anyone in this thread. There is no wrong answer or response. I do feel bad for her though, pencils are sharp even when unsharpened, I can’t imagine that felt good. Did she wrap it in a condom? How old was she?

feedum_sneedson ,

Fuck knows, I didn’t ask. Young, I think. Maybe it was the blunt end?

tamal3 ,

That bit about tampons isn’t true at all, and has nothing to do with virginity. Nothing fundamentally changed about your body when you had sex. You were just using tampons badly.

YarrMatey , (edited )

You’re probably right, I never used lube with tampons but if I did it might not have hurt so bad. I did feel it was less tight putting them in once my virginity was gone but it still felt like tearing using them so maybe that was just me. Just now I tried searching but all I got was tampons don’t take your virginity which I already knew and was not trying to imply. I use cups now with lube and it is much better than tampons for me.

Edit:

Will tampons hurt with endometriosis?

They can, but the tampon pain associated with endometriosis tends to be similar to endometriosis dyspareunia, a term used to describe pain during sex. With endometriosis, a tampon can cause a heavy pain felt deep in the abdomen, or cramping.

Sometimes the tampon pain related to endometriosis also can cause your vaginal muscles to tense, causing a sharp pain at the entrance of the vagina when inserting or removing a tampon.

TINA tip: If you have endometriosis, speak with your doctor about which options for managing your period might be most comfortable. Speak up about how you’re feeling so your doctor can help you determine which type of pain relief options might work for you.

TIL I may have had endometriosis this whole time. I was wondering how I was using tampons wrong when I have heavy flows that need tampon+pad to manage.

I really don’t mean to be a grammar Nazi, but the amount of times you misspelled “their” is crazy. Check to make sure your auto-correct is good. There’s no way it should have allowed “thier”.

It’s definitely a chronic problem I have. Since I changed phones a while back, it gives me suggestions but I have to manually select them. Typically, it underlines the misspelled words but in these apps, it just doesnt.

And as many times as i spelled “thier” here, it all just went to shit.

I before e except after c…

FYI that's an awful "rule" and as far as I know isn't taught anymore because, again, it's terrible. There's more exceptions to it than follow it. Such as "their".

I've seen an expanded version that includes "or when sounding like 'a' like in 'neighbour' and 'weigh'," but that's still far from perfect. For example, leisure doesn't fit either of those. Deceive has it come after a c, doesn't sound like an 'a', and the i still comes after the e. Forfeit is another, and of all the words I've used so far, it produces yet a new sound with the same vowel conbo.

English is just a really whacky language because of its history and influences.

Lifebandit666 ,

I don’t know, some autocorrect just suggest the most used word for that set of screen taps. When you tell the autocorrect to remember a word by selecting it, it then just becomes another word to the autocorrect, and the more you select that spelling, the more it’s suggested.

So what I’m saying is that OP has trained their, sorry thier, autocorrect wrong.

Just for that silly sentence above I’ve just had to delete the misspelling and the capitalised version of it from my own dictionary, and had to skip over 3 American misspellings just to write this sentence because I’m British.

bonoisatwat ,

Here we go again, Reddit habits die hard I guess. Suggesting to someone that their auto-correct is messing up becomes a cause for downvotes.

What if that was on their resume and they didn’t catch it?

Chat support first, who wants to talk to people? If you do need to call, enter identitng information once, then repeatedly press 0 to get human support. Ask tier 1 support, if they say no then flex that Karen superpower “I’ll need to speak your manager”; those people are individuals just collecting a paycheck. If the floor manager (many have a 3x request policy) can’t see the situation from the human perspective and resolve/waive, they will only care if someone above them gets upset, the ways to do that are threaten legal action. No sovciet bs, but it helps to use contract terminology like “agreed upon terms”, “failure to meet industry standards” and “breach of contract”. If they don’t get jostled immediately, your next escalation is tag the intern on social media with a negative sentiment; or Google the company name followed by email for the office of the president. This is the pr address, CEO assistant or community director which again have the power to step in and resolve. You can also think outside the box and leave negative play store reviews (different intern).

Each conversation should be less then 2 minutes + wait time and if that can’t resolve it, you need to close your account (which might take you to retention!) or potentially move. You can justify 1 more call during a different shift. There is no need to get mad, state that are you upset and are looking for resolutions. Use an I feel statement, and be sure to ask to leave notes on the account regarding your conversation. They have a UI with comment fields in the ticket that are displayed while you are on the phone and it helps sell the situation with comment history.

It’s not you. If I’m at a RESTAURANT and can’t hear my friends, I leave. I won’t spend money at a place I have to yell to be heard (unless there’s a band I specifically want to see or I’m at a bar, but even bars have limits).

hsl , to nostupidquestions in how does my "neighbor" hear my private telephone conversations.
@hsl@wayfarershaven.eu avatar

You can troubleshoot this through the process of elimination.

  1. Don’t make any calls from home for a day or two. That’ll tell you if it’s something localized to your home/location or if it’s specific to your phone/contract.
  2. Disable all extra technology like Bluetooth. That’ll tell you if it’s a Bluetooth or other connection. Ideally, turn off all extra connections beyond cellular. You could also try voice/video calls vs. phone data - I doubt this would matter, but it’s always the last thing that you check.
  3. Break your house into a few different zones. If they comment on a conversation held it in one part of the home but not another, that’ll give you an idea if it’s location specific.

Probably not the most helpful tip, but how about taking this opportunity to learn another language?

Corkyskog ,

Lol, do all of their friends and family need to take up the same language? Could you imagine everyone just takes up Vietnamese just because of this neighbor.

If nothing else I’ll find out if there’s anywhere that’s safe

Quatity_Control , to nostupidquestions in how does my "neighbor" hear my private telephone conversations.

You mentioned a Bluetooth issue. Do they have a hearing aid that may be your phone is broadcasting to via Bluetooth by mistake?

givesomefucks ,

There’s an eldery, far right, technologically incapable guy at my office that takes any sleight as a person attack and tries to set “revenge” because he’s also a rage addict.

He also has the Bluetooth hearing aid, and I can see that being something that gets shilled for on alt right news station/podcasts.

With OP saying they use Bluetooth and calls drop when trying when the neighbor is home…

That’s probably what it is.

A cheap Bluetooth “hearing aid” that OP somehow accidentally authorized on their phone

FarFarAway OP ,

This is interesting because while they do have ear / hearing issues, they’ve never gotten hearing aids from a doctor, but it doesn’t mean they never ordered them from some catalog, or whatever.

Like just because ive never seen them doesnt mean they dont exist. They maybe too proud to have them in while people are around, but might use them to watch TV or listen to the media.

If the neighbor is doing this intentionally, I’m pretty sure it violates some pretty serious wiretapping laws.

The neighbor probably snuck onto her phone and added their hearing aid or a pair of headphones or something to the Bluetooth paired devices, the call probably drops because the neighbor hangs up on her from their device whenever OP tries to use her headphones, or the call drops from the phone being bad at switching Bluetooth devices from the neighbor’s device to uers.

I do agree but if you wanted to make to case for ‘God’ they could have made sure some of their creatures evolved to understand his work, assuming they did it in a logical way. We are the way for a universe to understand itself (paraphrased from Sagan). Though his writing is much more interesting than this comment. I just think there’s room for belief if it works for people, but not for the strict literal interpretations that many seem to believe.

Who gives a fuck about anything else when the pure and fundamental question of “why us” is literally the only thing you need to keep your going until you die.

KillingTimeItself , to science_memes in Science is Magic

its funny to me, the existence of science being something as mundane as “rubbing three moderately flat surfaces against each other in succession will inevitably produce a flat plane as it is the only functional outcome for that problem”

opposed to the incredibly complex and intricate technicalities of steel smelting, and even beyond that, casting properly.

and then also, we know why cicadas make so much noise, it’s really simple. Just a little bit (ok well a lot of bit) of constructive interference. But actually, we also have no fucking clue how they manage to count such long periods of prime duration reliably and consistently.

There’s also the technicality of being able to explain how molecule level physics works, but then not being able to comprehend molecule scale physics in something like biology until recently.

I’m convinced that science is just reverse engineering the universe. Eventually, one day, we will figure out how to create an entire universe, and we will.

Science is the ultimate version of philosophy.

Nothing4You , to asklemmy in Why can't lemmy mods or admins clean up dead communities like askhistorians and others? I know they have a hard job and everything but we need an active user base to make lemmy to thrive.?

cleaning up dead communities isn’t a great experience as it is today.

admins could purge communities, but this can cause unexpected breakages with other activitypub software that is more strict about cryptographic verification, as purging a community erases all information about it from the local instance, including the cryptographic private key. purging a community also only removes it on the local instance, so other instances would still have a cached (although possibly marked as deleted) copy of it. this would be the only method that frees up the name to allow creating a new community under the same name later on. locally this would also remove all posts and comments associated in that community, but other instances may think that they have users subscribed to the community and may still have posts and comments in there. this also means if a new community is created with the same name again, the local instance will still not know about older posts, but users on other instances might see them still, and the local moderator might be unable to interact with them at all, e.g. to potentially remove old problematic content.

the next option is removing a community as (instance-)moderator action. this will only mark the community as removed without further impact. regular users won’t be able to access the community on the local or any other instance anymore, but its contents are preserved in case it gets restored at a later point in time. the name is not released and there isn’t even an error message shown when trying to create a new community with the same name.

another option could be to “take over” the community and delete it, which is the act of the top community mod deleting the community (not a moderation action). in this case only the same top community moderator can restore it. this behaves mostly the same as removing it.

none of these options are good to use. imo purging should be avoided in any case, and the other options both require admin intervention to release a community later on and have no user feedback in lemmy-ui at this time, at least on 0.19.5.

for communities entirely without posts it is probably ok to just remove them and restore and transfer them if someone requests them. for communities with content the next best thing might be locking the community, potentially locking all posts if it’s just a small number, to prevent unmoderated new content in that community, and put up a pinned post asking people to reach out if they want to take over the community. otherwise, if the community was removed or deleted, all the posts and comments within them would also be taken down with the community.

Don_Dickle OP ,

Not to make your post trivael but that is some deep dive shit. I thank you for typing it all out and the thoughts behind it…no sarcasm.

Omgboom , to science_memes in Science is Magic

Just because you know how something works doesn’t make it not magic

The dictionary disagrees with you.

lath ,

That’s because it’s a dic.

Damage ,

Sorry, but higher literature (DnD rulebooks) disagree with YOU

This is Science Memes, not Fantasy Memes lol

MindTraveller ,

The dictionary sucks.

Anticorp ,

Even magic itself loses its magic when you know how it works.

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@discuss.online avatar

Does it, really? Or is it “magic” all the way down…? :-D

Anticorp ,

As someone who was crazy about magic as a kid and learned a bunch of magic tricks, yes, it does. Really.

OpenStars ,
@OpenStars@discuss.online avatar

Oh yeah, for magic “tricks” that’s fair:-).

You could still use it to cause squeals of delight from young’uns who don’t know any better yet. So the utility is vastly diminished, but not entirely gone.

lone_faerie ,

As someone else who was crazy about magic as a kid, I feel like that just made magic even more magical. Having an understanding of how magic tricks work lets you really appreciate the art and be truly wowed when you see a trick you can’t figure out.

Anticorp ,

I still appreciate it, but the “magic” is gone. It becomes an intellectual and physical challenge once you understand the mechanics behind slight of hand and other forms of stage magic.

MindTraveller ,

What did you think of magic after you learned occultist techniques?

Anticorp ,

That it’s not real, which was also a disappointment.

MindTraveller ,

Of course magic isn’t real. Magic occupies the border between reality and unreality, and is the mechanism by which effects cross it. Take money, for example. Not real, it’s just a social assignment of value. Magic is what makes money have real effects on the world.

Anticorp ,

Of course magic isn’t real

It’d sure be a lot cooler if it were.

MindTraveller ,

Nah, reality is bad

lone_faerie ,

Yeah, for sure. To me, the intellectual and physical challenge is the magic.

Anticorp ,

I guess to me the magic that’s left are the reactions I get from people who really love magic. There isn’t really anything else I can do that provokes such a happy reaction from people. Plus the genius behind some of these tricks is really amazing. Guys like David Blaine really are geniuses in their field. I found a PDF file on the torrent network that contained all of his popular tricks back in the mid 00’s, and the looks of absolute amazement I got at parties was priceless. One of my brother-in-laws accused me of being a warlock when I showed him some tricks the first time I met him. Haha!

yesman ,

If you understand how quantum mechanics works, why are you keeping it a secret?

Viking_Hippie ,

Out of pure spite.

JayDee , (edited )

If you understand magnets you know how magic works. Hell, even aerofoils seem like a glitch in reality.

MindTraveller ,

Any sufficiently analysed magic is indistinguishable from science!

sinkingship ,

Totally agree. I just witnessed my sister delivering her baby a few days back.
