No, no. You have to line the trees with mirrors to reflect his hacking signals.

He’ll just fill it with alligators and wait you out.

clockwork_octopus , to lemmyshitpost in I think my neighbor is hacking into my wifi so he can try to steal my beer wtf should I do?

If you can find a bear, it might be enough to distract the neighbor, and maybe he’ll share his trees with you

PenisDuckCuck9001 OP ,

I could try to train an army of attack ducks. They say the ducks at the park are free. I know a guy that has 2 pet ducks.

Don’t use ext4 for that data. Use btrfs

Also one copy of the data is zero copies and 2 copies is one copy.

Mountain_Mike_420 , to piracy in Is anyone aware of an Arr stack integration for spotify-downloader?

Lidarr already has a lists import feature specifically with Spotify integration. The choices are: “Spotify followed artists,” “Spotify playlists,” “Spotify saved albums.”

dubyakay , (edited ) to asklemmy in Are your grandparents and parents nice or tolerant people?

My father was very anti-categorization, and actively challenged anyone with such mindsets. He’d stare people down on the subway that glanced at him. He’d call out anyone that made a remark about him regarding anything and labelling him or anyone else as “you people”. He went into great detail in his explanation to me that people, even when homogeneous ethnicity, will categorize others automatically based on traits, often putting individuals into catch-all boxes mentally. And how it can or could be overcome.

At the same time, he loved a good ethnic joke. Even self-deprecating ones. One of his favourites was:

The Scotsman takes his son to the market fair. They buy a watermelon and consume it with gusto.

A year later they go to the market fair again. The son asks if he can have a drink. To which the Scotsman replies:

Beer after melon?

Ah, now that’s a scare! Glad you mostly managed to recover at any rate.

As for the fs to use, exfat is probably a safer bet but btrfs is also an option. I’ve used winbtrfs in the past and it works surprisingly well.

GolfNovemberUniform ,
@GolfNovemberUniform@lemmy.ml avatar

But I don’t think BTRFS can be used on a backup drive because it often needs backups lol

lupec ,

Said drive is a new one for media and regular everyday usage, not the existing backup drive according to the OP. Btrfs is more than stable enough barring specific RAID configurations, at any rate.

@kuneho@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for the tip. Though I wouldn’t mind if it would work on almost anything - even like Android or some older systems. Not a real need, just would be nice if I could plug mymedia drive into anything and watxh stuff from it (maybe even from older, not smart TVs if it’s possible)

lupec , (edited )

Yeah I guess exfat is the way to go then, it’s how I handle my external SSD rn as well

Edit: Also, I’m not sure how well btrfs handles external drives. Didn’t realize that when I suggested it.

ProgrammingSocks ,

DO NOT USE WIN BTRFS. Recently I used a current version and it fucked up my btrfs filesystem in a way that was almost impossible to diagnose and fix.

lupec ,

Right, thanks for the input. I used to use it for unimportant stuff like game storage so it’s entirely possible errors just went unnoticed 😅

“Burn Book” by Kara Swisher A book about Big Tech and Tech Giants by the one journalist, who followed the development in Silicon Valley from the beginning. So far I like it very much. Swisher is still convinced, that tech (companies) can make this place a better world, if it wasn’t for the irresponsibility of its owners. It’s comforting to see her love for tech, her frustration with company leaders, and her firm belief, that it might still work out somehow. I’m curious, how it will go on and what she thinks might help getting tech back on track.

Ledivin , to nostupidquestions in How does Ohio have stock for the new cannabis stores that just opened?

The answer is a lot more straightforward than most of your responses here:

Medical marijuana was already legal in Ohio, so it was already around – those growers/distributors/shops simply ramped up their operations to get ready for the wider market.

BlorpTheHagraven ,

This is correct. Additionally, some distributors have licenses in multiple states.

Crying is when your head releases liquid.

It’s not an eye thing; it’s a head thing.

AnnaFrankfurter , to asklemmy in Why is music so loud in restaurants? (Serious)

They blast loud because if you start talking with your friends and eat slowly and spend a lot of time their eating little.

Hikermick , to asklemmy in how do you survive lazy coworkers?

Your work ethic is your own. Don’t let others bring you down to their level. If anything be a leader by lifting them up. Yeah nobody wants to be taken advantage of, I’ve been there. Quick personal story: my friend got me a job working for his parents business as he can’t keep up with the work load. Turns out he is a lazy bum, job is easy he tells me I have to do all the work. I use my anger constructively. I do all the work without bitching. Get a hundred times better at it than him. Embarrass him in front of his parents. Get everything I want. Basically I run the show. Hopefully your supervisor sees your worth if not find someone who does. Good luck

intensely_human ,

I would rather be taken advantage of for what I am, than to stop being what I am.

This took me a long time to learn.
