The land of the fee.

It has the potential to be a futuristic, modern country full of happy people but hey, profits would suffer…

I see windows users at work and they have clicked those popups so many times they they do it now without even thinking. But it looks really funny, they are interrupted constantly by Windows or apps wanting something :)

Absolutely. It’s not their fault, it’s just that they happen to grow up in late stage extreme capitalism.

The US is an extreme country where all that matters is company profits. Happiness is not needed. If people are sad, you replace them. It actually seems to be like that.

Nice. I always go back to Gnome for abit on a new release, it’s fun to see what has changed. But I’m usually using Plasma now.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Don’t think it’s bad? It seems to have been a great release with Plasma 6. Don’t have any issues myself and haven’t seen anything major. But maybe I missed it.

Yeah it can vary of course. It works good on my machine. Amd graphics.

@asklemmy What do you think it would take for people to drop Twitter & Reddit and move to the Fediverse?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Be careful what you wish for. It’s very good for us that those people stay where they are… Otherwise this place would be Twitter.

What lunches do you eat on a weekly basis?

I’m looking for easy and cheap options for lunches on weekdays. I mostly eat deli sandwiches and hot dogs right now and I always feel like shit after eating them. I think I need something healthier but I don’t have time over my lunch hour to cook anything too fancy. What do you all do for reliable healthy easy lunches?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Seems to actually work yeah. My girlfriend doesn’t eat dinner, only lunch. She says her body adapted to it almost completely. Only sometimes is she extra hungry and then for a proper reason, like doing physical work for hours or something.

I think it’s very healthy to just eat less. We eat more then we need, almost all of us.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I have lunch at Burger King almost every Wednesday, also because it’s next to work. Double whopper for me.

The other days I eat more healthy though… But usually indian, Thai food or sushi every week once or twice.

I think you are still learning… What you say doesn’t make sense, so I think you may have misunderstood what happened.

Are we all fucked?

I’m worried for the world. All I’ve been thinking about is WW3 and this shit makes me want to vomit. I can’t even smoke weed anymore without having a near panic attack. I feel unmotivated. I wake up and immediately just want to go back to bed. I’m not trying to spread fear but the Doomsday clock is 90 seconds till...

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

You just need to do one thing - disconnect from news and politics. Those things will poison your mind and make you afraid, angry or worried constantly. Also all shitty social media that makes you feel bad.

You have no impact on what’s happening in the world, so it makes no sense to worry about it.

Whatever will happen will happen weather you worry or not. So stop worrying. Focus on your life and your friends and family. Or your hobbies. Exercise. Feeling good.

I’ve done this for over 15 years now. No idea what is in the news. Feels great. I will find out about actually important things. It was impossible to miss covid or the Ukraine war for example.

But the circus, as I call it… No need to watch that. You can safely ignore it all.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I wouldn’t feel responsible to change it. It’s not me deciding to fund the genocide. I would like to change it, but we are all powerless to change most of the evil things going on every day. What are we gonna do, vote? There are no good people to vote for. Good people are not interested in making a career in politics and they get eaten by evil sharks.

But do what you can as long as it doesn’t consume you. Examples of being consumed is living around people who make you feel awful about yourself, or staying with someone who hurts you.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah. You can feel yourself hurting inside when watching that stuff. People think they need to pay attention to it, but they don’t. Its all manufactured negativity and they are really good at making it feel bad.

Sometimes I wonder if there are evil spirits and if they consume this negative energy being created in people. It would explain a lot, why our world is so evil.

Maybe human beings are being fed on spiritually, just like we consume other physical beings for food.

Who knows.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah it’s because humans took action and actually did something real to create what they wanted to see. Those changes were because entire populations decided to change things and they had a simple goal that others could get behind.

This is also why there is so much media focus on what makes people different from eachother today. So we don’t unite like others did before us.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

You are right, I actually never read about the history of protests. Do you have any books to recommend?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I was like that five years ago. If you have the energy, I would say go for it. Explore all the different ways you can work, with tiling window managers, shortcuts and different apps to get notifications and other things. It’s a lot of fun.

Go into the nvim universe for a while too. I was there and wrote my own config and my own plugins, was fun.

I mean, why not… :) What else is fun at a computer…

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I used to run hyperland and sway but never managed to feel good using it. It became annoying with every window tiling. Normally I use apps full screen except the terminal.

Except it won’t archive Googles own apps of course. The ones who keep running in the background spying on all activity.

The US is just smarter in how it kills people than Russia. Even though I’m not sure he is dead. There are many ways to fake deaths and instead move him out of the spotlight to some remote place.

Do you ever worry that you're secretly a psychopath that unknowingly manipulates people around you?

Someone recently told me that they sometimes feel gaslighted around me because I effortlessly make them question their beliefs and feelings. Hearing that didn’t sit well with me, especially since I’ve been pondering the question in the title for quite some time....

I disagree strongly that they are childish. They are 100% correct in what they are saying here. Also this article doesn’t “highlight” their behavior, it’s actually “cherry-picking” behavior that puts them in a bad light. Similar to tabloids read by the lowest iq crowds.

Linux for desktop market share surpasses 4% for the first time, says Statcounter (www.neowin.net)

Statcounter, a website that tracks the market share of web browsers, operating systems, and search engines, is reporting that Linux on the desktop has over 4% market share for the very first time (Statcounter records ChromeOS as a separate operating system despite being based on Linux). Yes. The same sentence you quoted has this at the end of it:

“it handed over the personal details of one user last year.”

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

And that is something to inspire to? Look at the world right now, with billions of people having almost no money at all.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

No I know. But it was “good enough” for the company and we never had any serious issues working that way either. If someone pushed a faulty commit, we just reverted it and reloaded the data from the source system.

A lot of companies have kind of bad solutions for this sort of stuff, but it’s not talked about and nobody is proud of it. But it keeps the environments simple to work with.

I would have thought that more users made it easier to find a match? Can you elaborate?
