I never worked anywhere where they had this set up. I would push to branches and make pull requests, but always work in the production environment.

I was mainly working as a data engineer though so that’s probably why. It’s hard to have test environments since you can’t replicate all the enormous amounts of data between environments without huge costs.

I think the reasons was ridiculous. The fact that people didn’t like the word master anymore. But I’m used to it now, so fine, let’s use main. It makes sensitive people feel better.

Most of the world doesn’t even have guns for their citizens. But I have switched my opinion a little bit on this topic. I used to think nobody should be allowed to have a weapon at home. But after seeing the constant failure of police departments to protect people, and the increased crime levels, I now think it’s actually not a bad idea to own a gun. Nobody else is going to protect your family.

Rethinking Moderation: A Call for Trust Level Systems in the Fediverse

The current state of moderation across various online communities, especially on platforms like Reddit, has been a topic of much debate and dissatisfaction. Users have voiced concerns over issues such as moderator rudeness, abuse, bias, and a failure to adhere to their own guidelines. Moreover, many communities suffer from a...

Yes but not at this kind of modern graphics level.

I’m assuming that is the reason but not sure… Maybe it’s just picking the easy route also.

Windows hides the actual refresh rate to make it look better. Linux shows you what it actually is.

I think it’s a huge plus that it’s not run by big tech corporations. How many such things do we have today?

Yeah but think about the property prices… Rich people losing money. What a tragedy.

When they say “Lord”, which lord are they referring to in reality… Without knowing.

Why are people so antsy to see others in person?

I WFH, every year one of the goals that the rest of the team decides is that it’s “so great” to see each other in person. The past few years haven’t worked out but one did. I spent hours in a couple of airports, the huge expense for the company, I spent days away from my family, and for what? So you could look me in my...

So what’s the benefit for me, letting the corporation employees and managers study my body language and micro facial expressions?

For me, it’s just a huge hassle getting to work, getting up earlier and paying for transport and lunch just to be there, for seemingly no reason that benefits myself at all.

So much time and energy wasted while also harming the environment.

I don’t plan to be at the same company more than a few years anyway.

This is not the first time a platform goes bad and knowledge is lost. People used to think stack overflow was impossible to replace. Now we don’t even use it anymore, most of us.

It will be fine.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I guess I’m in the chat gpt bubble. Since that came along, it has replaced stack overflow almost completely for me.

It’s still valuable when I Google on error messages though, that’s true…

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I mostly use chat gpt now, but I guess stack overflow is still there if you don’t use chat gpt. And it can be helpful for finding error messages from apps and figuring out what they mean.
