Unfortunately Jetbrains editors are still blurry on both Sway and Gnome in 4k. Only Plasma can handle it and shows sharp text. Not sure what they are doing that the others can’t.

True but without the US, western Europe would belong to Russia or China… That arguably a lot worse.

It’s the lesser of all evils.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I’m a racist because I don’t want China to control the western world the way the US is controlling it? :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah China seems worse to me.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

They would if they could. Imagine China having a powerful air force like the US have. They would dominate every country in the world just like the US is doing. The US puts almost all their money into high tech weaponry as well.

The US is going after the middle east to get oil and to establish military bases for future domination. Has nothing to do with liberation or democracy.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Disagree on that they are the most evil, but yes they are also evil. China, Russia, US… They are all evil. But the US seems like the lesser evil to me.

Do you have any actual arguments? So far you are not really contributing to the discussion at all.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

What’s cringe is your comments here… You just contribute nothing to the discussion.

Why isn’t it good that the US is controlling things? And why do you think it’s better if China would?

That’s how you have a real discussion.

Looks fine but I don’t know how you can use a light theme… Hurts my eyes. :)

Firefox skin is cool also. I think I used something similar before also. It’s from one of the github.com/vinceliuice themes right?

At least for now, we can avoid most of the crap by not using social media, always using ad blockers, and by using search engines that are not shit.

But work is ongoing to remove ability to protect ourselves from tracking and blocking ads. Because even ordinary users who know nothing are waking up to ads in the start menu on windows soon.

One Login: Towards a Single Fediverse Identity on ActivityPub (thenewstack.io)

In response to Bray’s toot, Evan Prodromou — one of the creators of ActivityPub, who is currently writing an O’Reilly book about the protocol — noted that this “is also the argument for using the ActivityPub API.” He described the API as “an open, extensible API that can handle any kind of activity type — not...

Creating different accounts is the only way to have privacy in the first place. Different logins makes you look like you are different people. Which is the point.

Windows 11 Start menu ads are now rolling out to everyone (www.theverge.com)

Microsoft is starting to enable ads inside the Start menu on Windows 11 for all users. After testing these briefly with Windows Insiders earlier this month, Microsoft has started to distribute update KB5036980 to Windows 11 users this week, which includes “recommendations” for apps from the Microsoft Store in the Start menu....

It’s not hard to ignore. I ignore lots of stuff on Lemmy. There are many topics where there is no point to say what I think since people have strong opinions and won’t change their minds.

With time you will also learn that posting things on social media doesn’t change anyone’s opinion.

You come from a good place but unfortunately you can’t change what people do in their lives. Like at all. Nothing.

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

These are not photographs I think? It’s computer generated.

They were the first. Now many others have better cars. Tesla quality is awful.

Tesla’s in its flop era (www.theverge.com)

When Tesla releases its first quarter earnings this afternoon, the company’s CEO Elon Musk will field the usual questions about new products, new factories, and progress toward its futuristic vision of self-driving cars and robot workers. But Musk will also face increasingly urgent questions about its current state of affairs...

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

It’s a classic old saying in stock trading.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

That people still trust what Musk says is mind boggling…

@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Well you lose the amount you shorted. You can’t go into debt for money you don’t have.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yes I know but I meant that you don’t have to do any of that yourself. You buy a bear or a mini and it’s taken care of automatically.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Incels?

I’m kidding. Mostly.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Sure but females wants a strong male, and strong (animal) males fight other males.

If you would have only females, the entire fish species dies out. Nature needs strong fighters to protect things.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah that’s true. I was just describing the basics to not have to write that entire thing you just wrote. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I mean, yeah, I assume most people don’t say everything they know about a topic. It would be exhausting to listen to.

What you wrote is something I think everyone learns in school also.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Of course. Never intended my comment to be a book on the subject. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

And you think it will be easier to change if you wait a few more years? :)

Create a new account and set up email forwarding and that’s a start.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I was also on Gmail when it was new, but it became appearent that Google was a bad actor many years ago. So I’ve been on fastmail for like 5 years now. It’s never been down. And it’s always very fast, and has many features Google doesn’t have at all. They do care about privacy but since it’s hosted in Australia which is part of the 5 eyes pact, all data is shared with the NSA. To me it’s OK. I just want my email to be in a better place than Google.

But yeah I would also self host it if I could. I have a proxmox cluster with tons of virtual machines at home, running nomad to schedule jobs on them. I have pihole as a dns server so i get a lot of tracking protection just from that.

I hate that our societies are so superficial. It’s a huge advantage to look good. Its like a superpower that some people have. And it’s really unfair, because it gives them literally all the best things in life with no effort.

That being said, I think gene manipulation will allow parents to make their kid good looking in the future, so everyone will be good looking.

I bought stocks at 170 and sold a few days ago at like 150. Would not recommend.

If the report is bad, Tesla will probably be back at 110.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

It’s alright, it’s part of the game. If we knew how the stock would move, we would all be millionaires.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Chance of quick win. Individual stocks can move 5-10% in a day and index funds move much more slowly.

But yeah everyone says it’s almost impossible to beat index funds long term.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

The damn thing is up 13% in premarket after report…

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

The funny thing is, I have bought Tesla two times in my life, and both times it has fallen like a stone right after I bought it. I guess I have a gift and I should short it… :p

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Lol :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Are people really that different in what they like? At least the American movies are portraying the exact same kind of attractiveness, to the point that it gets super boring to watch.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Theoretically, the development could allow a submarine to travel faster than the speed of sound without producing the mechanical noise vibration that usually gives away its location, according to the researchers.

LOL, imagine a submarine traveling at Mach 1 under water… :)

That’s 1224 km per hour ( or 761 miles per hour)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Thanks, didn’t think about that.

Maybe they can make torpedoes using the same tech…

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

You probably gave it severe brain damage though. Felt bad reading this since I love animals…

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Those sounds like American prices…

Would be maybe 50 dollars in western Europe. Just a guess.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

You are right actually, I should stop bringing it up. Doesn’t help anyone really.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Western Europe is quite different from a third world country. :)

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I think it was more a reaction to bringing it up when someone is already feeling sad over his pet being hurt.

Everyone probably agrees with the facts but it was just bad style to bring it up in that moment.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah I can’t stand seeing cats foraging for food either. I was in Sicily and saw the same thing there, lots of cats, most of them damaged because of fights they had been in I assume… It’s a hard life for them.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I understand you come from a place of wanting cats to not be hurt, but I think humans don’t have the moral right to do that to them. We think we help them, but isn’t it the same as if we would neuter fellow humans because we think they are aggressive?

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Yeah. I understand… I wish humans would always have enough money to not be forced into things they don’t want to do. Specially since money is just a made up concept, like monopoly money. But we all are forced to gather this resource that is not limited by nature at all. It’s just limited so our own human economic systems won’t break down.

So much things are based on money and it’s not even a real limitation by the real world.

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Glad I’m not alone… I can glance an article in 30 seconds, so I fail to see how video is a better format for this.

For udemy teachings, yes, video is great. But it’s way overused for everything.

Almost every problem in the world would be dealt with meaningfully if we outlawed billionaires.

Everytime I look at small problems or big global problems, if you follow the money trail, it all leads to some billionaire who is either working towards increasing their wealth or protecting their wealth from decreasing....

1984 ,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I think billionaries are a symptom, not a cause, of the disease.

Some people are born in positions where they already have massive wealth and they grow up with connections to make it larger and larger. So that’s what they do.

But the real issue is the system that keeps everyone in debt for life. Many would like to stop working and enjoy their lives instead. They don’t need much. Just don’t want to work and get by with decent living standard.
