Right wing conservatives and similar authoritarians - if developing into fascists - usually ditch religion at some point of that journey for practical reasons …
They aren’t ditching religion, they’re making their own with a new idol. And I’m guessing many of them don’t even realize what they’re doing - they probably still think of themselves as Christians. This is the power of Trump’s grifting.
This is how many new religions get going ironically. The key is that right now it’s a cult. It has to get out of cult status by opening up and appealing to the masses. You can see that Scientology has that problem, it’s grown but it’s not open to everyone and it still acts like a cult. It’ll be an ~~interesting ~~ terrifying hundred years if it continues…
Don’t drink the sea water. It’s already a bad idea.
There is an expression in research “dilution is the solution to pollution”. The parts per billion exposure (but probably even lower) contamination that you might experience is not a public health crisis. You have drinking water in states contaminated with carcinogens. Ain’t nobody got time to worry about seawater interfacing with a dead body.
I can’t wrap my head around how some believe that physical punishment of a child is ok in any circumstances. At school, at home, anywhere. Doesn’t matter. Don’t hit children.
It’s extremely primitive, and you’ve only shown your own desperation and inability to handle the situation. Find a better solution.
I developed serious anxiety issues from corporal punishment, but to adults I looked like an obedient and nonviolent child, which was preferable to them. So messed up. I’m in my 30s and I still haven’t fully recovered from social anxiety issues
There is still a profit incentive to have something on the market, the disincentive is only if the value difference between the small market and bigger market is greater than the value of having something on the market vs nothing. And with the smaller market items they tend to be higher profit because they may be the only option available for that small market.
Plus there is uncertainty on whether the bigger market drug will make it through trials.
This is a potential distortion that will happen sometimes, or heck there’s a distortion where maybe negotiated prices might make the returns for some drugs not good enough to attempt.
But the alternative is higher prices on all the negotiated drugs, with impacts like people dying of diseases we have treatments for because they can’t afford it, and medical bankruptcies. We have elected leaders to decide between trade offs like these, and I think they decided rightly in favor of lower costs for everyone with the potential impact of some new small market drugs being delayed.
Crazy how coke and aderall make these 2 morons believe they should get to decide what direction the planet spin.
Why people worship idiots born in wealth will always be beyond me. If any of you ever suffered imposter symdrome, think of this picture in the thumbnail.
Isn’t it wild how people understand that using physical violence against another adult is bad, but then will still proudly use physical violence against the most vulnerable members of our society?
Very true. I also find that that group B also includes many people who think violence in general is fine. Physical violence, social violence, even sexual violence. Abuse messes people up.
Oh boy, the next few months are going to get exciting.
Initially, the government also claimed that another reason to keep the warrant a secret from Trump was the risk that he might flee the country, but the government later retracted that reason, saying it had been mistakenly included. Tellingly, the court agreed with this reason, as well, before the prosecutors retracted it as a mistake.
Oh for sure, but if the judge thinks it’s a possibility he could flee, that’s interesting to me. I hope Smith gets that January court date and we’ll know soon enough if he evades his secret service, lol.
I and at least literally ‘ones’ of others figured he’d be off to Russia or more likely Saudi Arabia as soon as he left office because he was scared shitless of being thrown in jail.
Now, naturally I’m a bit pissed he hasn’t been held, at least on the Jan 6th charges, if not the damn espionage act indictment. “Two-tiered” justice, indeed.
[White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows told White House staffers to keep some Oval Office meetings "close hold" during the transition period, potentially leaving meetings off the books [...]. [Mark Meadows' aide Cassidy] Hutchinson also testified that there "were certain things that had potentially been left off" the Oval Office diary. [...] Additionally, she told the committee that she saw Meadows burn documents in his office fireplace around a dozen times -- about once or twice a week -- between December 2020 and mid-January 2021.
The “standard language” thing sounds right to me. A lot of court filings templates and attorneys just plug in the facts for their particular submission.
Which unfortunately reminds me of Mad Libs, and now this is all getting pretty absurd in my head
Not a lawyer but lawyers write draft arguments and then choose the ones they think are the best. It’s possible they put the flight risk argument in a draft but ultimately decided to remove it, but then sent it out before actually removing it.
I’ve been convinced for a while now that if Trump felt he was actually headed to jail his last desperate act would be to try to flee to North Korea to hide behind his crazy bestie Kim (who would absolutely love the drama of having an ex-POTUS as his puppet to parade around and try to shame the US with).
I don’t doubt that Trump would want to go to Russia but Putin would never agree to that when he could have all the same benefits if Donnie was in NK and none of the negatives of having him in Russia. Kim is crazy enough that he wouldn’t care and would enjoy all the extra scrutiny and attention.
Kim isn’t crazy. He was raised from birth believing he is the divine ruler of a people and received a modern education. He is acting in the best interests of the state he leads. It just happens that most of us on this platform likely live in a part of the world where those interests don’t make sense or are hard to see or just don’t seem important. But that’s an “us” problem.
His public persona in the West is a combination of propaganda from multiple angles, much like we see around Russia and China, too.
I’m not saying that he is a good leader or has the health of North Koreans in mind, but be aware that not everything you hear about living in North Korea is necessarily accurate (and not necessarily due to outside actors, either).
Not at all, but even if they were already rejecting their religion’s teachings and following their political bullshit in every practical sense, it’s still a bit sobering to know that when they actually read their Bible (or have it read to them) they see the central peace & forgiveness & sacrifice guy as a liberal talking-point “other.”
