I thought I dreamed that show, lol. It was kind of fucked up.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=obxfuFrUTzg

Why is everything in consumer / American life so fucking shitty now - and companies literally just say 'oh bc profit margins' and we're now expected to swallow that and sympathize?

like I went to taco bell and they didn’t even have napkins out. they had the other stuff just no napkins, I assume because some fucking ghoul noticed people liked taking them for their cars so now we just don’t get napkins! so they can save $100 per quarter rather than provide the barest minimum quality of life features.

PeleSpirit ,

I think what a lot of people are saying is that they do both, exploit their customers and their workers.

Intercepted calls from the front lines in Ukraine show a growing number of Russian soldiers want out (apnews.com)

In audio intercepts from the front lines in Ukraine, Russian soldiers speak in shorthand of 200s to mean dead, 300s to mean wounded. The urge to flee has become common enough that they also talk of 500s — people who refuse to fight....

PeleSpirit ,

I remember reading when the war first started that Russia has the numbers to continually onslaught for a long time. If they’re pulling prisoners, the old and young, etc., is that really true anymore?

PeleSpirit ,

You’re right, the other intercepts are probably just straight up crying.

PeleSpirit ,

This is the moral of every tech company. FFS, learn and keep the greeds out.

I do think the clock is ticking, though. The deterioration of Google’s culture will eventually become irreversible, because the kinds of people whom you need to act as moral compass are the same kinds of people who don’t join an organisation without a moral compass.

PeleSpirit ,

You’re not wrong, but why not add onto it instead of being so aggressive. Tech companies do seem especially bad, but that’s probably because I live in Seattle.

PeleSpirit ,

I didn’t know they had AI generation now, I need to use it again. I haven’t had a project that needed it for a bit.

In 2021, Wallen was suspended by his record label after being filmed using the N-word following a night out with friends.

PeleSpirit OP ,

He’s beating that girl, yeah? I didn’t catch what they had on him. Thanks for posting the video.

PeleSpirit OP ,

I enlarged it, I’m 90% sure he is. This post is getting downvoted heavily for some reason. You’re right, he is a gigantic POS.

PeleSpirit ,

It didn’t feel like they were stable and would take care of us though, the nuclear drills sure didn’t help. Also, I know a lot of army vets that weren’t drafted but went to school with the army bill. There are people out there that still know that war sucks. Also, the kids now have school shooting drills, they kind of live with the potential of war and some have seen it. There does seem to be an incredible breakdown with the money in politics, no shame and we’re extremely close to having a dictator after they attempted a coup, I’ll give you that.

PeleSpirit ,

It has to be authentic, you can’t just comment to comment.

PeleSpirit ,

I can agree with that, but being authentic definitely helps the conversations take off.

PeleSpirit ,

I think that dude is actually broke now.

Bayer ordered to pay $1.56 billion in latest US trial loss over Roundup weedkiller (www.reuters.com)

The Cole County, Missouri jury found on Friday that Bayer’s Monsanto business was liable for claims of negligence, design defects and failing to warn plaintiffs of the potential dangers of using Roundup, according to court documents....

PeleSpirit ,

Now can we go after the CEOs and put them in jail for murder?

PeleSpirit ,

I swear their mission statements seem like a comedy about evil corporations:

  • We’re working towards a single vision at Linde: to be the best performing global industrial gases and engineering company, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for our customers and creating value for all our stakeholders.
  • Our Mission-Making our world more productive.

Also, that dude really was the one responsible for murder:

  • He served as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Monsanto Company from 2003 until June 2018.
PeleSpirit ,

I was just going to say that. I know a lot of people that love the make. I don’t get it, but I’m glad they’re out there.

PeleSpirit ,

They really do keep it a secret. I’ve gotten bills saying I don’t owe anything more and then bill me for $100 later. I don’t understand, but just pay it. It’s where the healthcare system learned their math.

PeleSpirit ,

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I don’t mind paying a small amount if they come back in a timely manner. They have been so amazing to work with. We owed a huge amount and they negotiated with us to pay it down. So if we have to pay $100 more now and then, I’ll let them spend that time working with people who need it.

Note: If you owe a large amount, don’t ignore it. They will usually work with you if you contact them early to pay it in installments. If you don’t think you can pay ever, tell them. You’ll still owe it, but communicating is better than freezing and ignoring.

PeleSpirit ,

Lol, that’s a good problem to have when dealing with the IRS.

Dying woman’s last wish: to pay off others’ medical debt – $15m worth (www.theguardian.com)

The New York City book publisher arranged to use money raised in her memory to buy up the medical debt of others – and then pay it off, according to a website which assisted her philanthropic effort and as of Friday had collected nearly all of her six-figure goal....

PeleSpirit ,

Tax the rich.

Donald Trump paid $0-$700 on taxes on multiple years. What are the other 1% paying?

PeleSpirit ,

Mexico and Canada have free healthcare.

PeleSpirit ,

I know, but a lot of our turds crap on Mexico, so slipping that in there is fun.

PeleSpirit ,

Double edged sword, them firing him will probably release him from his contracts so he can pursue that money train.

For those active across the fediverse, who are some creatives you follow and which creative communities do you enjoy?

Creatives of whichever fields, whether writers, artists, musicians, meme-makers, developers, film makers, and the like and/or communities, I’m curious to know about some of the people around the fediverse creating some original stuff....

What is your flow to look at both Mastodon and Lemmy? For example, do you have them both on your phone, but spend more time on Lemmy than Mastodon, or your laptop and you switch between the two? I do wish they communicated better so we could communicate on each without having both open. Sharing from each other would be great too.

PeleSpirit ,

Thanks for the thorough response. Laptop makes sense with the open columns for the mastodon, I liked tweetdeck for that very reason. I forgot they had it tbh.

In terms of posting between the two, I often do post to Lemmy via Mastodon just to get the conversation from both places all happening in one thread. Works well as long as you bear the various quirks in mind, but I hope that’ll be improved over time as well as asking the option to crosspost the other way round (ie Lemmy to Mastodon).

That’s exactly it, it seems quiet and isolated between the two. If we could share some of that great art, ideas and conversations between each other easily, it would really thrive. I’m not even saying thriving to attract more users, I’m not sure if that’s what anyone wants. I think the quality would thrive.

U.S. Department of Justice backs tenants in case alleging algorithmic price-fixing by big landlords and real estate tech company RealPage (www.propublica.org)

U.S. Department of Justice backs tenants in case alleging algorithmic price-fixing by big landlords and real estate tech company RealPage::ProPublica is an independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest.

PeleSpirit ,

“Automating an anticompetitive scheme does not make it less anticompetitive,” the DOJ said.

As described in federal lawsuits filed by tenants, RealPage invited concerted action among landlords, including the sharing of nonpublic data with the software, with the purpose of raising rents, prosecutors wrote in their memorandum. The arrangement is still price-fixing regardless of whether competing landlords ever communicated with one another about prices, prosecutors said.

All of the countries that use the most power are nations of innovators, we can switch to renewables if we try. Here is a hippie version of renewables at home, if you put a coolness factor on it, this could take off in a great way. www.ruralsprout.com/produce-renewable-energy/

PeleSpirit ,

Stop trying to make tankie work, it’s not really a thing since everyone uses it in different ways and means different things. North Korea, Russia and especially China would be tankies, since they use tanks to oppress their people like authoritarians do.

PeleSpirit ,

Nice, a black and white charlie brown sweater.

Looks like you can report them to your local State Insurance Agency

By June, she was so fed up she decided to submit a complaint to the Texas Department of Insurance. Five days later, she received a call from an Ambetter employee apologizing and saying they would process the procedure as an emergency and pay up.

Unless:

Not all health plans have to follow state mandates. About 65% of employees who get insurance through their jobs work for companies that pay directly for health care. Those companies often hire insurers solely to process claims. Known as self-funded plans, they are regulated by the federal government and exempt from state coverage requirements. Employers increasingly are turning to these types of plans, which tend to be cheaper, partly because they don’t have to cover care that states require. (The federal government also imposes coverage mandates, but state laws can be more robust.)

Propublica wants you to report to them if you were denied coverage when you were supposed to receive coverage so they can keep looking into it.

U.S. Pledge To Triple Global Nuclear Energy By 2050 (www.huffpost.com)

When I first read the titile, I thought that the US is going to have to build A LOT to triple global production. Then it occured to me that the author means the US is pledging to make deals and agreements which enable other countries to build their own. Sometimes I think the US thinks too much of itself and that’s also very...

I want to see personal renewables developed with battery storage before we go nuclear. I want to see a wall of small wind turbines and solar panels or 4 placed on every roof. All commercial building roofs are required to be white.

The nuclear bros are going all in with no idea how to handle waste and nuclear accidents. If they were serious, the would figure out waste at the very least…

PeleSpirit ,

Cons: expensive, special waste management is required.

special waste management is doing a lot of heavy lifting, yeah? Meaning, we are leaving nuclear waste to future generations.

As far as renewables cons, we just stayed at home for 2 years and we adjusted. Not having enough power and more power failures isn’t such a bad trade-off. Start spending your time on getting renewables in every household. Public and private utilities need to adjust to people taking back their power.

PeleSpirit ,

Why is that the alternative?

If we can send a robot to mars, we can build personal renewables right now. Why won’t you nuclear bros address that?

PeleSpirit ,

I’ve known someone who put up a small wind turbine and they had a battery bank. It was super simple and worked np. I’m not sure of what you’re saying.

PeleSpirit ,

The nuclear bro admitted nuclear is expensive to build, cities and towns could help with the costs, it would build jobs and it’s been tested for decades. I remember being a kid and hearing about celebrities putting in solar panels and it being cost effective in about 5 years.

PeleSpirit ,

Research Fukishima, Chernobyl, 3 mile island and the submarine leaking and get back to me, lol.

PeleSpirit ,

A full platter of food is $10.39, you raise that 6% and you get $11.01 as your price. I think they’re going to do fine.

PeleSpirit ,

Nope, we still have pennies and they cost more to make than they’re worth. 🤷

Library director Rita Shacklett worried in August that the new rules would prevent students from accessing books they need for a class. She explained that many classic high school books, such as To Kill a Mockingbird, are now classified as “adult.”

The nazis are deciding what is adult though, it is not a good thing.

PeleSpirit ,

Book banning and controlling people you don’t agree with is nazism, but you knew that.

Mexico has straight up women freemasons, but they follow the french version, not the english version. I’m not a freemason, but one of my bests is and he is a well of information, lol.

Wait, Burchett chased McCarthy? Holy shit, middle school never ends for these guys.

Tennessee Congressman Tim Burchett was giving an interview to an NPR reporter when he suddenly lunged forward and exclaimed that former Speaker Kevin McCarthy had elbowed him in the back. A chase ensued with Burchett running after McCarthy demanding to know why he did it which McCarthy denied, later telling reporters, “If I’d wanted to hit him, he’d know it.”
