I mean both the US and China have slaves in their country but have big heavy political dicks they swing around to make it less talked about. We’re both “bad people”.
The US owes China a fuck ton of money.
When bad folks have people in their debt and need money, they do bad things to collect their debt.
China isn’t gonna get poor watching the US squander the ~trillion of dollars they loaned us without a fight.
Maybe if we, idk, taxes our billionaires? Nah, ‘too difficult’. Okay, so war then? Great.
The USA debt to China is, I think, part of foreign policy. It keeps China at the table and they’ll never be able to break from globalism/the west cleanly because of it. If they ever invaded Taiwan, which I don’t think is likely, the USA would wipe all foreign debt to China as part of the sanctions package. You have to play nice (nice enough) if you want your money back.
I agree with a lot of your comment, but the debt is beneficial to us. It’s not at all the same concept as “Can we please borrow some money? We promise to pay it back when we can.”
It’s much more akin to “we have a business proposition for you that will benefit both parties. And while we’re engaging in business, let’s talk about some other important things too”. It’s profitable for both parties and is an important part of proactive diplomacy.
Maybe this is for the best. Someone who would abandon a dog at an airport shouldn’t own the dog in the first place. I couldn’t even imagine giving up my dogs. I love them so much. I’ve already lost two dogs in my life (through old age) and the pain was as great as losing humans I love.
I remember senator Pat Toomey had an office in Philadelphia he was never at and you could rarely get anyone on the phone there either. They don’t give a shit about their constituents.
Why doesn’t NOAA just predict good weather for a change? Seems like a waste of disaster response resources to keep having these storms year after year.
My grandmother was an amazing woman who devotes her life helping others. She was a nurse who also volunteered at old folks homes in her free time, and she donated to many good causes. She loved the teaching of Jesus. Her dad was a WWII vet, and she cared deeply about treating others with love and charity.
She passed away over a decade ago, and while I still don’t like the idea that she’s gone, I’m happy that she never had to see this all of this happening. She would have been absolutely crushed.
Sadly her being crushed might be the best case scenario. Imagine how crushed YOU would be if the propaganda weaseled its way to turning her into a trumper.
I don’t mean to disrespect her memory though. Somebody that good who actually gives of themselves rather than just hanging up crosses and American flags, would probably be one of the millions who did not buy all the recent right wing crap.
He was a homophobe and a racist, so yes. He was conservative. I’m not sure how you could miss that part considering it was the whole point of the article.
Ehh not necessarily. I’d say typically that’s the case, but I’ve met old style liberals that are transphobes before. It’s not typical but it occurs. Just seems seems weird to draw the conclusion that he’s conservative from the article when it isn’t mentioned anywhere that he’s conservative. Hell he could even be libertarian as far as we know.
Conservatism is the reason pharma companies are able to legally exploit suffering and death. If you have a loved one who could have had a better outcome, thank a conservative.
Conservatism is a plague of misery and death. It always has been.
