I always find it amusing that people have been like “well it doesn’t cause weight loss!”
It doesn’t.
Is it water better than diet soda? Absolutely. But no one is replacing water with diet soda. They’re replacing coke with Diet Coke. Or whatever.
Which means fewer calories which means potential weight loss (or for lower weight gain. CICO.) the problem is that most people who drink doet sodas tend to have a lot of other dietary habits that are equally awful as slamming back a 12 pack of Mountain Dew everyday…(eew.)
As for aspartame causing cancer… I dunno. But I’m guessing it’s lower than the threat being obese makes. S
not really. there are plenty of people that don’t drink water. at all… if they’re just not asking for kidney stones, then they’re replacing it with other things. sugar’d up soda being the most likely.
I explicitly know of at least two people, whom I’ve met, who claimed that they refused to drink “just water”. It was always either soft drinks, juice, or water with flavoring, which often uses either aspartame or sucralose.
Actually this dude I worked with replaced water with diet Pepsi. He said the tap water was filled government nanobots or something. Hasn’t drank water in 20 years. But he’s not sane so…
PFAS are widely used, long lasting chemicals, components of which break down very slowly over time.
Because of their widespread use and their persistence in the environment, many PFAS are found in the blood of people and animals all over the world and are present at low levels in a variety of food products and in the environment.
PFAS are found in water, air, fish, and soil at locations across the nation and the globe.
Scientific studies have shown that exposure to some PFAS in the environment may be linked to harmful health effects in humans and animals.
There are thousands of PFAS chemicals, and they are found in many different consumer, commercial, and industrial products. This makes it challenging to study and assess the potential human health and environmental risks.
Tap water from Mexico. Still has nanobots, also comes with worms. And because it lacks the alchohol in tequila… the worms survive and that’s why you don’t notice.
Artificial sweeteners may play another trick, too. Research suggests that they may prevent us from associating sweetness with caloric intake. As a result, we may crave more sweets, tend to choose sweet food over nutritious food, and gain weight.
It doesn’t cause weight loss, but empty calories in your diet will cause weight gain. If they hadn’t switched, they’d probably be even heavier than they already are.
Always thought that the prison guards are the same as the people they guard, it’s just one side that has gotten caught. I’m not surprised no one wants to work those jobs.
They are definitely causing the Barbara Streisand effect with this. Before seeing this post, I had never heard of skiplagging…now there is a 100% chance I will check for skiplagging my next flight if it saves me money.
Same here, I only heard about this practice just a few days ago. Now it's 100% going to be something I try next time I fly.
Fuck the airlines. Don't like losing money for lost seats? That's too bad, maybe try providing a better service. Skiplagging only became a thing because people caught on to your abusive pricing schemes. You made your bed, American Airlines, now lie in it.
And that’s a US mission for clarity of those who don’t follow this topic closely. China also has planned a manned mission to the moon by the end of the decade and all of these countries (India, Russia, US and China) are all targeting the Moon’s south pole which is much more treacherous in terms of geographic features than previous Moon missions. The south pole has frozen water deposits and the eventual goal is to use this area as a refueling station for exploration further out into the solar system. Pretty exciting times!
I know you found your answer already, but for anyone else who doesn’t feel like reading a long article:
Yes this is really happening, but no it’s very unlikely it will be in 2025. Maybe 2026. Artemis 1 had a relatively minor heat shield issue that could but likely won’t delay the Nov 2024 launch of Artemis 2(crewed orbit around moon, no landing), which could in turn delay Artemis 3. The bigger problem though for Artemis 3’s timeline is the lunar lander, which is supposed to be a modified version of SpaceX’s Starship. Given the issues the normal version of Starship has had, confidence has dropped they’ll be able to deliver the lander in time for the mission.
This next bit is pure speculation on my part but I’m personally of the opinion that Artemis 3 will end up merely a crewed orbit of the moon like Artemis 2. With 2 other crewed landings planned for this decade, I feel they’ll sacrifice the main goal of the mission before they sacrifice the timeline too much. Artemis 4 is likely also going to swap spots with Artemis 5, as the main goal of Artemis 4(Lunar space station) is at best described as in “development hell”, while Artemis 5 is basically Artemis 3 but with a different non-SpaceX lander.
Wait you thought a Russian manned mission to the moon was happening and you hadn’t heard about it? That would be global news, mostly about the technical “how can they possibly attempt this?”
US is trying to move it’s manufacturing to Mexico for geopolitical reasons in the short- to medium- term and economic reasons in the long-term. Tarrifs makes things from China more expensive, so investors/developers will be more likely to find other places that make them more money, like places that dont have tarrifs and are near by.
Hardly - he has an SSN. Any job that pays taxes he’ll be garnished. Even if he manages to hide his identity with a fake ssn, his life as it was is ruined. Definitely a form of justice considering he literally was trying to ruin her life through these actions.
Yeah. Sadly, the quote “If you owe the bank a thousand dollars, it’s your problem; if you owe them a billion, it’s their problem” applies here too. Hopefully she bleeds him dry and maybe some prison time too.
I wouldn't say he is sentenced to destitution. Wage garnishment is capped at 25% of disposable income. And you keep a minimum of 217.5 per week (30 hours of minimum wage a week).
A 25% pay cut certainly hurts but depending on his income he could still have a decent life.
The amount is ridiculous but even a more reasonable sentence around 500k-5mil would probably not change anything for his situation. Most people wouldn't pay that off in their lifetime at 25% of income.
Iirc the 25% cap really only ends up applying if you have more than one active garnishment. Individual garnishments are generally 10% of gross. Maybe there are exceptions where one can go up to the full 25% of disposable, but it’s rarely the case.
I’m hoping he’s a US citizen so he won’t be able to avoid paying US taxes anywhere he goes without also getting a new identity and going into permanent hiding. As long as his life is destroyed far more comprehensively than his attempt to destroy hers, I’m happy.
Well done that jury. This is not just about a very large settlement, it’s a very newsworthy settlement. It’s impossible to measure the impact on crimes that don’t happen but I reckon there will be a fair few potential perpetrators of this sort of crime who might just manage to get a fucking grip because of this. And a fair few victims who find a way to exact an entirely justified revenge on those who fail to grow the fuck up anyway.
well if he was to leave the US and never return there’s very little risk in not paying the bills. it’s likely little would happen if you came back to visit for the holidays, either
I’m not going to enforce it. It’s entirely possible that the US givt does not enforce it despite requiring it. But they usually only ignore taxes for very rich people, who can dodge them anyway, so I’d expect them to enforce it?
A verbal argument ensued and Chris Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.
Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.'s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.
Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, ‘I’m going to beat the shit out of you when we get home! You wait and see!’
The detective said Robyn F. then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant Jennifer Rosales, who did not answer.
Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, ‘I’m on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.’
After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, ‘You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I’m really going to kill you!’
Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.
Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps (sic) that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.
Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant, Melissa Ford. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.
Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.
Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle in front of 333 North June Street and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.
Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.'s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.
She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown’s body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.
Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.'s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order.
I’m sure many innocent people have nightmares over the crimes committed against them by these inmates in a maximum security prison, so it’s hard for me to be sympathetic. These aren’t low level guys we’re talking about.
These are still human beings, and the policies around imprisonment in this country escalate the level of violence rather than decreasing it.
If you are in favor of punitive imprisonment as a form of torture then I would understand your position. That also seems to be the commonly held position by most people within the prison industrial complex as well.
The largest problem in the prison system is its use as a housing mechanism for the mentally ill thanks to Reagan era policies that defunded mental institutions. The second largest problem is gangs, and that is a tougher problem to solve.
What I know for sure is that what we are doing is not working, and there are a plethora of examples in other industrialized countries that we could point to that have done a better job rehabilitating inmates or at the very least decreased the levels of violence between them.
I think your argument is a gross oversimplification of the issue, and comes from a place of ignorance regarding the absolutely inhumane treatment we subject incarcerated individuals to in this country. There simply is a better way on societal level to prevent people from becoming incarcerated in the first place, dealing with them once they are in the system, and providing resources once they have completed their sentences.
Prison gangs exist for the same reason street gangs exist: members were othered until taken in by gangs. This is how they started, and how they perpetuate, and now they other others. It’sa symptom of despair, directly created by economic policies. The first part is a gross oversimplification; I’m not sure the part referencing economic policies are, by any stretch.
