girlfreddy OP , in Insight: Conservative think tank emerges as force behind DeSantis campaign
@girlfreddy@lemmy.ca avatar

Conservative think tank is one of the most notable oxymorons in use today.

They should call them GOP meddling sessions instead.

Carvex ,

“Ok guys, how can we continue to keep all the power and the money?”

“The usual way, keep the poor fighting to survive from all angles.”

“Good job guys!” eats baby

_wintermute ,

You poke fun but this is where the real evil happens. This is the powerful elite coming together to manipulate the fuck out of reality, because, yes, they’re that rich.

nutsack , in Trump expected to surrender to Fulton County jail on Thursday or Friday next week

they won’t put him in jail

RagingRobot ,

No probably not yet anyways. He is just going to get his mug shot and finger prints and to hear the charges against him I think. Maybe some other stuff. But then he will go home and come back for his trial.

I’m not a legal expert it’s just already happened to this same man 3 times lol

nutsack ,

he will not go through processing. he will not be put in handcuffs, will not have his mugshot taken or his fingerprints made.

girlfreddy ,
@girlfreddy@mastodon.social avatar

@nutsack @RagingRobot

Seems like he will be.

"The statement from the Fulton County sheriff’s office addressed the key question of where the former president would be arrested and processed as a criminal defendant."

from here https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/15/politics/fulton-county-jail-trump/index.html

nutsack ,

yeah I understand and I’ve done it myself. I just don’t see it happening to him. a former president with a lifetime secret service escort is hard to put in a jail. id love to see it.

girlfreddy ,
@girlfreddy@mastodon.social avatar

@nutsack

I doubt he'll be arrested, but he will be fingerprinted and have a mugshot done.

That, in and of itself, is a good thing. Wish I could be a fly on the wall there to see it.

TheMage , in Nickelback, Chris Brown, and other stars scored $200 million in taxpayer funds meant to keep arts groups afloat during the pandemic. They won't say what they did with the money.

Just more fallout and consequences of the SHAMdemic. What a bunch of horse poo that whole thing was.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Are…are you serious? I genuinely can’t tell.

TheMage ,

Sure am. Why? Do you really think all the BS we endured with the Covid mitigation was worth it? Pretty clear it certainly wasn’t. People losing their jobs due to not getting the “Fauci Ouchy”? Shutting down small businesses while Home Depot and Wally World stayed open all day? Kids sitting home doing nothing for two years versus being in school where they belong so they can develop and learn? Telling us that we can only have six people over for thanksgiving ?

Yeah, no.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Absolutely unbelievable

TheMage ,

I agree, it was. Good thing no one will be falling for that again. Lesson learned!

stopthatgirl7 OP ,

…oh, honey. Oh, bless your heart, you tried.

Wollang ,

You’re funny

pinkdrunkenelephants ,

They’re never going to listen. They genuinely don’t think what they did was wrong and they don’t see the nightmarish consequences of their actions, including the rise of Ron Desantis and the massive uptick of violent crime, provoking the right wing to take revenge by banning abortion and revealing the massive extent of regulatory capture they’ve engaged in for the past 50 years, and now we’re on the brink of a civil war.

They’re not listening because all they cared about was limiting their exposure to covid at any cost, even their own families, and they don’t want to consider that what they did is wrong.

And they’re not going to ever be convinced to listen or care because now it’s a partisan issue.

I am just so, so deeply disappointed in humanity because of this fucking decade. 🤦🤦🤦

so, he isn't really 'skipping' it.. he's not wanted there.

OldWoodFrame ,

He didn’t qualify for the debates.

wagoner ,

How so?

treefrog ,

Because he wouldn’t agree to support the eventual nominee if it’s not him.

It’s a requirement for the debates according to the top comment in this thread.

Elohim ,

Oh, he’s wanted. Both Fox and the RNC have been trying to convince him to go for at least the last month.

AttackBunny , in Nissan recalling more than 236,000 cars to fix a problem that can cause loss of steering control
@AttackBunny@kbin.social avatar

How very Nissan of them. For a company that’s been building cars for about half a century, you’d think they’d have figured out the simple shit by now.

Eheran ,

Cars don’t look, work etc. the way they did 50 years ago. It is a constantly changing, massive chain of things that have to happen to bring a car on the road. Any point of that line can cause issues somewhere down the line. Instead of sweeping it under the rug, like US manufacturers, they recall. That is a good thing.

AttackBunny ,

It’s a recall for tie rods breaking, and losing steering. Yeah…. Tie rods still work the same as they always have.

I get what you’re saying, but this isn’t some new tech, or something invented in the last few years. This is a production and QC problem, which Nissan has had MANY of.

Eheran ,

They work the same way. But they don’t look the same, are made of something else and weight much less for the same performance. Even just changing the alloy slightly can have a massive impact.

AttackBunny ,

Which furthers my point. They have been “improving” them for decades. They shouldn’t fail.

Eheran ,

There are a ton of metrics that can and have been improved. One of them is reliability, it went down. Now they fix it.

DemBoSain ,
@DemBoSain@midwest.social avatar

You’re getting downvoted but absolutely right. The pressure on engineers to reduce cost, weight, cost, cost, and weight is immeasurable. This should have been caught in PT testing, and also after the first recall, but mid-level managers are very willing to sign off on engineering changes if there’s any chance of reducing cost. And weight. But mostly cost.

burntbutterbiscuits , in Hot air balloon pilot with cocaine in his system made a mistake that caused fatal crash, NTSB finds

We’d have to have more information. If a drug is “in your system” that’s not quite the same as being high on the drug.

Cocaine stays in your system like three days I believe. He could have done cocaine three days before no longer been high.

Marijuana stays in your system up to 90 days. He could have smoked a joint 3 months before the incident and still had marijuana “in his system”.

This is a tragic incident, I’m just pointing this out. I don’t know what state of mind the pilot was in but there is a big difference between having a drug in your system and being high on said drug.

We need to stop the war on drugs. Drugs are not bad.

I used to design steering columns, and it’s really not as important as you think. In the event of an issue, the car will eventually come to a stop regardless of steering performance.

“yet” being the key word.

Old_Dude ,

“could” being the other

Probably would have been a better word. We’re expecting the second hottest days we’ve seen all summer today and tomorrow.

nexas_XIII ,

Exactly. In my city the lowest “high” we have from Sunday to Friday is 99. I’m not looking forward to it.

treefrog ,

That’s brutal! We’re only hitting high 80s. Of course the humidity here rarely is under 50.

nexas_XIII ,

I get that. Current humidity is 77%. It’s always brutal.

Ouch.
