That is DIN font, condensed and probably boldened. DIN is royalty free and one of the clearest fonts you could use on any font size. I love it, and I am not a fan of many fonts. Recommend you check Go and Etoile font families too, royalty free.
So where you come from, you welcome no races, no religions, no countries of origin, no sexual orientations, no genders; you don’t stand with them and they’re not safe, and the restrooms are a complete free for all?
You’re on Lemmy, what leftists call a liberal refers to the economic philosophy of liberalism, ie pro-Capitalism. Leftists do not use liberal to refer to leftists like the average American does.
And also could very well have survived the crash that killed him had he been wearing the Head and Neck Support (HANS) device that was available, but not mandatory, at the time. He called it “that damn noose” and claimed the tethers would more likely hang him than save him in the event of a crash. One of the greatest protective devices in motorsport since the helmet and the seatbelt and he eschewed it and suffered the consequences.
I can’t speak for others but I’ve come to see the Less Wrong / hardline rationalist crowd as having had some interesting ideas despite the Sam Bankman Fried of it all. Rationalwiki can be rather snarky, but can be a good resource.
Less Wrong is brainworms, as are the effective altruism and longtermism movements. US tech industry oligarchs like Musk, Thiel, and SBF (as you mentioned) are closely associated with these movements. Look into Less Wrong’s Eliezer Yudkowsky. Podcasts Tech Won’t Save Us, This Machine Kills, and Team Human have covered these movements, their movers, and their associated tech billionaires extensively. Some are grifters like SBF, and some are outright fascists like Thiel.
I was content to damn them with faint praise and save everyone the hassle. EY is a reasonably good writer who repackaged a lot of good ideas (Kahneman et al) and came up with a lot of less impressive original ideas (all the parts you’ve highlighted, many more). His most enjoyable work was fiction.
I disagree. In my experience having a lack of restrooms just makes the place nasty and hostile. You can still visit places with plenty of public restrooms, and it’s so much nicer. Every light rail station in Seattle smells like a toilet, the ones in Vancouver are way nicer. Removing restrooms doesn’t remove the need to pee.
Your response is a symptom of a much larger problem you have, misinformation and fear. You’ve presented a weird MSM scenario where everyone is a druggy. You’ve been disconnected from reality and have lost your way from being “stoic”.
“We are more often frightened than hurt; and we suffer more from imagination than from reality.” – Seneca
People shoot up drugs on the street, too. Should we just get rid of public streets while we’re at it?
Personally, I would rather have drug users go to a more private spot(like a public bathroom stall), than on the street in broad daylight, to use their drugs.
I went to a Cracker Barrel a few years ago and they has a sign that read “Proudly serving people of color since 1973” or whatever year it had. Weird brag
It’s to counter the racism, biggotry, and xenophobia present in pockets of American culture.
These shitty types of people avoid or hide within large cities - everyone is typically fine in these places. But small towns can sometimes have a serious problem with this if they are too “red” (Conservative).
In short, pockets of America are very tribal. People bond over similarities, and their shared disapproval of anything different, or out of the ordinary.
I would say that the country that has built 45,000km+ of high speed rail network, has a home ownership rate of 90%+, and has virtually eradicated extreme poverty within it’s borders is objectively better than the country with one of the highest per-capita prison populations in the world, and ~600k homeless people it can’t take care of.
