Russia is the one engaged in ethnic cleansing. Ukraine was strong armed into signing the Minsk agreement, and Russia dissolved it before their invasion. It’s almost like ceding territory to Russia for ceasefires is a futile process of appeasement that will result in piecemeal conquest by the invaders.

Sounds like we’re in agreement that Russia broke the ceasefire by invading.

As for the stationing of troops and equipment, it’s well documented they were sending shipments of equipment in weekly.

In regards to Ukraine arming themselves, no shit, they had just been invaded. There was nothing in the Minsk agreement that said Ukraine couldn’t defend itself from future invasions. Russia was party to the Minsk agreements, and required to remove their forces and military equipment, but did the opposite, sending more. Germany was not forbidden by the agreements to assist Ukraine.

The shelling was in response to Russian-led forces in Donetsk launching attacks with tanks mortars and artillery that also killed civilians. It seems like you’re upset about Ukraine defending themselves while hand-waving the role Russia played in instigating and perpetuating the conflict by invading sovereign territory with their military.

I thought this story was interesting. Especially the messages about how the taking of civilian hostages should not have happened. We don’t often get a glimpse into the mind of Hamas leadership like this. It can be hard to know what’s intentional and what’s not. You said the dying isn’t exactly news, which is why I haven’t been posting about that.

We’ll have to see what Blinken can do about it. He said he has a high confidence Israel will agree to the deal if Hamas does. I’m interested to see if the US can apply enough pressure to get a ceasefire in place.

I don’t think the DNC will be able to stop her. They can only do so much. I was a huge Bernie fan, volunteered at rallies and everything, but even I can acknowledge that the support was not quite strong enough to overcome the establishment headwind. He came close twice, but I think there were a number of people who wrote him off over his age and whatnot.

I think AOC could tip the scales, she’s young and smart and has real conviction. She has all the Bernie benefits with none of the baggage.

Swappable batteries are a giant headache, charging is better.

Batteries are lasting longer and longer, LFP are already able to last 20 times as long as typical lithium ion, while using less cobalt.

Modern EV tech is still relatively new. It took combustion cars a long time to get to present day longevity and efficiency. EVs will catch up.

There’s a couple thousand in China for Nio, but they haven’t really taken off anywhere else.

By contrast there’s over 1.8 million public EV chargers in China alone.

Batteries are heavy, which makes them hard to move and requires secure attachment to the vehicle. EV chargers have no moving parts and require much less maintenance.

150km of range usually requires about 200kg of lithium ion batteries. More for larger vehicles.

What’s wrong with charging? At 350KW you can get 150km of range in 5 minutes.

I got my EV used, and in three years I’ve already saved more on gas than I paid for it.

EVs are so much cheaper to maintain and operate; no gas, no oil changes, no transmission, no sparkplugs or timing belts. If the sale prices are close, the total cost of ownership will be massively in favor of the EV.

Nope. I mean I’ve replaced the tires once and windshield wipers a couple times, refilled the wiper fluid, but that’s about it. The thing that powers the car is a sealed electric motor, not too unlike the kind you’d find in a washing machine; it works for decades and hundreds of thousands of miles without service. It’s just magnets and wires inside, no explosions or soot to gum up the works.

Since the motor also works as a regenerative brake, you need to service the brake pads much less often. And since the 12v cabin battery is kept constantly tended and never used for cranking, it also lasts many years longer.

So yes, still some maintenance, but you save a ton of time and money long term.

I happen to live next to a free charger provided by the state, and not far from a free fast charger provided by the dealership, so it’s essentially free for me.

Electricity here usually costs about $0.12 per kwh, which can charge the car for 4-5 miles of range. That’s $0.84 to go 28 miles.

Most people charge at home just by plugging the car into an outlet, so I have no idea how that would be taxed. With EVs we pay the road tax during vehicle registration, which is an extra $100 each year.

My 12v has a 10 year warranty, so if it did die after five years at least it would be free to replace.

I always turn the car on to use the accessories since ‘idling’ doesn’t really use any extra power, keeps the battery tended, and lets me use the AC/heater.

It doesn’t need to be published in a scientific journal. Publication in journals is the most streamlined way to go through the process, but you could publish your hypothesis and methodology to a blog and potentially get the same benefits.

Even patents need to be published. Publication is how discoveries are shared and verified.
