I don’t think it’s got quite as much bang for buck as an ebook or Tetris, but .kkrieger is a first-person shooter with multiple weapons, multiple enemies, multiple levels, sound effects, and music, and only takes up 97,280 bytes of disc space.
<span style="color:#323232;">Add this as a Steam launch option for the game:`PROTON_LOG=1 %command%`
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;">How?
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;">1. Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">2. Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">3. Enter the above code in.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;">Logs will be saved to $HOME/steam-$STEAM_APP_ID.log, overwriting any previous log with that name.

If it’s happening on your desktop but not the steamdeck, my first assumption would be an issue with your desktop software/hardware.
Might want to check OS logs at the same time of the crash as well.
Alright, from journalctl, I can for sure identify exactly where my computer hung. That last line that repeats itself? It repeats itself thousands of times until I shut the machine down. Does that mean anything to you?
I can also get the Proton logs if you still need them, but that will have to come later, since it’s an ordeal to plan for a scenario where my desktop will crash.
This is just a guess, but I imagine kubuntu probably has a slightly dated kernel / mesa versions. My understanding is that As much as we wouldn’t like it to be the case, there’s still issues with AMD. It’s not totally perfect and Improvements and fixes are being added to the kernel and mesa packages all the time.
Maybe someone on AMD can confirm?
I own the game and did not experience a crash when playing through it on my nvidia system last year.
To be fair, I can’t find evidence of anyone on the internet experiencing this same freeze, so it’s probably more specific to me than AMD in general. When I saw freezes like this in Monster Hunter, years ago, I was on Nvidia.
Thanks. I’ll give it a go. I don’t think I’m convinced it’s a hardware issue, since that error says something about permissions and faulty IDs, but what do I know? Couldn’t hurt to check.
I’m not in a position to test on more than just these two machines/distros. Once upon a time, I tried switching to Fedora, but some of the behaviors were not to my liking, so I went back to Kubuntu.
If you are curious I’d check out the following link and see what version of mesa you are running vs the latest. Maybe you can find more info or other experiences from users on that specific version.
Finally, I’m curious if you boot using USB into a live distro like Nobara, if you can manage to test the game. Or even actually install Nobara to a spare USB drive drive and test the game.
Maybe someone else can chime in, but that’s about all I can think of. If you want to find a root cause, you have to run through and find what’s not the issue.
I understand the nature of troubleshooting, but I don’t think testing a 45 GB game is feasible off of a live distro, and any way to test it on my hardware outside of logs is a whole lot of work to get one game working; I don’t have a spare drive around either. I just figured these errors would mean something to someone who could take action on it to make a better Proton for everyone. I haven’t checked the kernel yet, but my version of mesa matches the latest stable version in your link.
EDIT: I did find this link that sounds like it’s a mesa bug. I’m on the same major version but a different minor version.

Since AMD GFX works out of the box and steam is preinstalled in some live distro’s… simply mounting the hard drive with the game and then adding it to steam will work. Allows you to add the game ( steamlibrary) without having to download. Just a thought.
I would recommend against installing ppas in general.
I think that Kubuntu/ubuntu Noble is on a pretty recent stable kernel as is. There would be something even fresher in the HWE track, dunno if that exists for noble yet. The DXVK version is up to Proton (so Proton-GE would be slightly fresher).
The Mesa version, I’m not sure where that comes from. You have an OS installed copy, you have a flatpak/snap version, but aiui Steam Runtime and/or Proton also likes to bring its own version.
I get stuck eating at McD once every month or two because of food deserts, and I would say it’s a borderline miracle if any of your burgers weren’t over cooked. They’re cooked from frozen on, basically, a giant panini press. And no one checks them, they just cook to until the machine dings… if there’s someone available to do anything about the ding, that is.
McDonalds doesn’t even use auto-lifters on the deep-fryer baskets either right?
The little bit of past kitchen work I’ve done (in a different restaurant), there were rails/actuators that would lift the baskets out of the oil when the timer went off; but I’ve never seen them in a McDs before. Much easier to overcook stuff.
It’s been a while since I’ve done kitchen work but I’ve never had an automatic lifter. We just had someone being paid to cook food and watch the fryer. The issues start piling up in places that make the cashier handle front, drive-thru, fryer, whatever else all at once rather than pay an extra $150 in labor for the day.
McDonald's has been on a really steep decline for the last few years, it seems. They used to be tolerable; they weren't the best fast food around, but they also weren't the worst, and were generally a pretty good deal for your money. The last few times I've gone, the prices have been higher than the time before, and the quality lower than before.
The last time I went was nearly a year ago; my food was cold and my shake was melted, and it was nearly $20 for just one person. There's just no reason to go back.
All fast food has been racing each other to total enshitification. I used to each so much taco bell, it was never good, but decent enough for the price. I had one of the large brown bags almost completely full of fire sauce. I haven’t gone in probably a year because their food got blander and more expensive. It feels like everything is just made from nutrient paste but made to look like foods that existed in the old world.
When I went in I had very specific expectations and Arch lived up to them. Had an idea of what I wanted for a DM, and an idea of what I wanted out of an operating system, and it met my needs. I would still be using it like that except for the fact that I had to change it out to be able to run the proprietary software for my university, and I just never bothered to reinstall/reconfig it. If I were to do it again, I would make some script to set it up with all my necessary programs so that it is robust.
It is actually very bad for your body, and feeding your body that garbage makes you crave the garbage more. It’s an endless negative feedback loop unless you consciously try to break the loop.
I probably wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s poison, but I won’t say it’s not poison. Look up what their food does to your body, and how addictive it is.
As much as I agree that they create shitty experience, they generate so much more dollars per order than having a human take the order that they are never going to leave.
Not that I was there to begin with, but they 100% will push my parents out of there as they do not want to deal with them. I would think their primary long term customers were boomers, and they’re gonna reject Kiosks.
The icecream and salad are fine at McD, but the rest of their so called food has always been awful to my taste. The fries taste like cardboard and the buns taste like Styrofoam. The feeling in my stomach told me, that this cannot be called food.
The McDonald’s kiosk sucks. It constantly tries to upsell you on every item or tries to get you to go back and add more items to your order even after you’re done ordering.
The last time I went there I got a 10 Mcnugget “value” meal which still ended up costing $13. For that much I could have gone to a better restaurant and gotten a similar amount of food of much better quality.
To me at this point the only benefit to ordering McDonald’s is convenience. They’ve basically turned what should be an inexpensive value product into a premium product, but the “premium” aspect of it is just that they’re open late lol
It was a fantastic phone… except for the two times it got stuck in a boot loop until the battery died.
Bonus points for the second time, when, thanks to a google update for emergency services, it decided it should dial emergency services every time it restarted…meaning I had to stay up until 330am that night, hanging up on emergency services, until the battery finally died.
A year or two ago, I bought a P7 Pro to replace it, hoping it’d have all the good of the P3, but with better camera, bigger screen, and no boot loop.
It is indeed bigger, the camera can zoom more, but isn’t necessarily better, there’s no boot loop issues which is great…but I find i have more cases of the phone locking up and needing a restart…and the in-screen fingerprint sensor (and gesture controls) are absolute hot garbage compared to the P3.
The fingerprint and gesture annoyances have been enough that my plan now, unless there’s something significant that changes things, is to go back to an iPhone for my next phone.
It’s a glitch where the buttons break down mechanically, so it just thinks the user is holding the power button constantly, so as soon as it is off, it’ll turn back on.
I see a lot of people on here using Catbox to host videos, but I haven’t tried it personally. You could also use Imgur which has worked well for me to post pictures. I know they support video uploads as well.
