While I think federated services are a good idea in theory, the unfortunate reality is that they’re also privacy and GDPR minefields that nobody has figured out how to make legal yet.

I don’t think the name is why it isn’t used so much. I think it’s because it’s un-intuitive and almost incomparable to non-destructive/parametric professional programs. You can’t even change text after applying a style… for many, things like this makes it practically useless for real work.

Someone already tried to fork GIMP in order to change the name (Glimpse)… it didn’t work and they gave up.

Unfortunately it’s practically unusable for my use case, which is talking in CJK channels on non-UTF8 servers (when the channel name also has such characters), because recode support has been broken for 20 years.

Well, even moreso than it being hard to read, to me it’s just ugly. So in that regard I don’t think it really matters if I can understand it in the first place, if I just can’t stand to look at it to begin with. Like it just makes me not even want to try. I get a similar vibe with Ruby as well.
