allowed to talk about Lemmy on Reddit

if /r/lemmy is any proof; A) its ok to talk about lemmy on reddit and B) /u/spez has some validity in his point about users would be back not just because of the ‘48hr’ thing.

That said, yes a loud enough minority can create change and that discussion does need to happen where the users are for the network effect to kick off.

electrogamerman ,

Some mods are deleting comments/posts promoting lemmy. I made a post in my fav sub about the community in lemmy and the mods deleted it.

scrubbles ,
@scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech avatar

Same, the big 3 communities I host here I made very open posts, not pleading or encouraging people to move even, just “hey, we exist over here if you are curious”. All immediately removed, the mods were having none of that

lemmyshmemmy ,

I had at least three comments talking about Lemmy removed too. For all I know it was many more than that because I didn’t get any notice or explanation.

My take is that they’re censoring without even informing people because the fediverse is a real threat to them.

Ever since the api shit happend, and mods left their subs unmoderated, I feel like there are more bot accounts/posts on Reddit than ever.

charles ,

That’s also because a lot of mods used the API to detect bots and other malicious users. These tools were removed so even if the mods didn’t leave, they are now significantly less effective.

Gargari , to linux in Should I bother learning Podman?

You need less time to learn/read-doc podman than posting the question + waiting for answers. Its a basic tool, when you need it -> read doc

panilithium , to linux in Why is snaps hated
@panilithium@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Some of the things that have already been mentioned are true also for me, especially around permissions and assumptions about my system’s setup. However what really did it for me was when Firefox stopped recognizing my keyboard after a snap refresh. It’s just as if no input device was there for FF anymore. I found reports of the issue, but no solution. In the end I installed from a DEB repository and went through the shenanigans to prevent snap from reinstalling it.

AAA , to selfhosted in What runs on your base domain?

JS powered “matrix code”.

MyNameIsRichard , to linux in Was Fedora always so unstable?
@MyNameIsRichard@lemmy.ml avatar

Back in my distro-hopping days, I found it be unstable both when updating and in day-to-day use. Updates broke it and applications regularly crashed.

Lifebandit666 , to gaming in What’s one of your favorite game soundtracks?

Fallout got me, a Metal Head, listening to 50s rock and lounge music.

zinklog , to fediverse in Is anyone else seeing swear words censored in comments?
@zinklog@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

Instance admins can setup a slur filter for their instance, which automatically removes that word from ever appearing on that particular instance.

AmyCupcake , to linux in Has anyone used or contributed to OpenStreetMap?

Thank you very much for your efforts, there’s a lot of inertia about mapping places with low amounts of detail. Remember to reach out to your local OSM communities for advice, and the OSM wiki.

adonis , to linux in Distro hoppers, how do you manage your config files?
@adonis@kbin.social avatar

separate nvmes for the root-fs and for my users home folder.

configure /etc/fstab to point nvme to /home/username.

Done! I can wipe and hop as much as I like, and everything's just there.

Tbh, i only hopped once, from Arch to Fedora and it was painless.

Kissaki , to asklemmy in Do you consider AI art “OC” ?

“Original Content”.

Is it content? Yes.

Is it original? That depends on the context. What do you ask about, in what context? Where is it placed? Which AI? How was it trained? How does it replicate?

If someone generates an image, it is original in that narrow context - between them and the AI.

Is the AI producing originals, original interpretations, original replications, or only transforming other content? I don’t think you can make a general statement on that. It’s too broad, unspecific of a question.

HamSwagwich ,

You absolutely can make a general statement. Humans don’t make original content if you don’t think AIs do. The process is basically the same. A human learns to make art, and specific styles, and then produces something from that library of training. An AI does the same thing.

People saying an AI doesn’t create art from a human prompt don’t understand how humans work.

knF , to retrogaming in What is the logic of the System Shock 2 puzzles?

Are you referring to the device hacking? If that’s the case it’s purely random for what I recall. High hacking skills means higher chances to get a good node. The only part I was paying attention to were which node to unlock first. I chose them so that if they came out as bad I didn’t block two or more lines from potential success

knF ,

Correct, that’s when you try to hack a device. It’s purely random and chances are based on your skills, augments etc.

Wait, so the player in that video is literally clicking random squares until the game says the device is hacked??

z2k_ , to linux in Was Fedora always so unstable?
@z2k_@lemmy.nz avatar

I’ve been using Fedora and haven’t encountered any of the issues you mentioned. To me it’s always been rock solid.

FarLine99 ,

Same here. For me Fedora is incredibly solid and fresh experience. Hope Red Hat will not make strange decisions with Fedora in future.

PissinSelfNdriveway , to asklemmy in What series did you rewatch most often?

I’ve watch scrubs and king of the hill clear through probably 20 time each. I have a hard time finding new shows I like.
